1 New Dog + 1 Old Dog = 2 Dogs Together...

I laughed when I saw the old dogs is only 2! (My dogs are 15 and 16)! Definitely get them fixed otherwise more puppies will be on the way and unfortunately there are so many unwanted pets already. Taking care of that will definitely calm him down and improve their relationship. It would probably be good to introduce them together with both of them on leashes (so if he tries to mount her, you can pull him off). Spend time with both of them petting them and praising him when he is calm. If he loves to chase things, do a game of fetch to wear him out and also get them to play together without the do focus.

I will chime in. Spay and neuter your dogs!! We have enough animals without homes due to accidental puppies. This also makes for a better more mellow animal, not to mention it is better for their health.
Even after there might be some of the behavior due to them wanting to be alpha, not to mention the younger one wanting to play with the older dog. So you can help them establish who is alpha by making one dog always last in being fed and when being greeted. Praise the positive. It might also be helpful to consult with a trainer. Good luck.

Spay and Neuter your dogs! If you are not planning on breeding either of them responsibly (to their own breed), then I would spay and neuter the two of them. This will reduce the 'doing' from Duke and the 'I don't want you' from Ella. Also, work on obedience with Duke so that he understands when no means no while playing.

Some relatively simple solutions:

1. Neuter and/or spay whichever dog(s) you do not want to breed. There is no way you will deny biology otherwise, and you WILL have more than two dogs within a reasonably short period of you do not.

2. Get one or two bark collar(s) and put on the offending dog(s).

It is the only responsible thing to do. There are too many animals in shelters and an accidental pregnancy would only add to the problem once you have to start getting rid of the puppies.
The female may continue to bark for some time. A new dog is on her turf, but getting him fixed will at least take his engergy level down a notch!

I completely agree with the other posters. Spay and neuter your dogs. Not only are unspayed female dogs messy but it will only get worse between your two dogs and eventually someone will get too close and there will be puppies which then you will be pawning off on craigslist or they will be euthenized. There is no need to have a litter of pups especially a mixed breed. If you really love your dogs do what will make them happy and get them fixed pronto. It cost about $500 to have my female chocolate lab fixed but it was VERY worth it and we do see a specialty vet for hunting dogs.

Get them fixed. They are both old enough and once that is taken care of, things should be better. The interest toward Ella from Duke will be minimized.

We had 3 dogs when we lived in Tucson - 2 males and 1 female. They were all fixed and the only time there was "no reason" barking was when the girl dog took things away from the boys. She would then bark at them just to remind them that she had (item) and they didn't. Also, if they weren't properly "concerned" by the fact that it was no longer in their posession, she felt the need to "remind" them. She was maybe a little nuts, not sure.

Anyway, having them fixed is the easiest solution, and it's better for them in the long run. Plus, you don't have to worry about "surprise" visits from the puppy stork!

Having both dogs fixed will cut down on both their stress and your stress, and would be the ethical thing to do. According to the Humane Society of the United States, black Labrador retrievers are the most frequently euthanized breed of dog in America. . . . They are just so great, but there are not enough great families ready to appreciate them for a lfietime. And few families are really up for the intensity of a weimeraner, either, although they, too, are awesome dogs.
You might also be interested to know that the majority of dog bite and lost dog cases, the dogs involved were not fixed. I'm not at all saying your sweet dogs would bite your kids or run away, but having them both spayed and neutered will reduce the risk immediately. Not to mention you'll never have to put up with a messy heat from your female.
It sounds like they are jockeying for the alpha position right now as they settle in, and if their hormones are involved, that wrestle for dominance will never let up. Going to a training class (perhaps seperately, or at least with one adult per dog) will help them learn to respond to *you* as the ultimate alpha. But, while spaying and neutering is not brain surgery, it is the very best and easiest way to reduce behavior problems, particularly in a multiple-dog home.
