My 14 month old son has had a bad rash on his chin for quite a while now. i said something to the dr and she called a drooling rash, but didnt give me anything for just told me to keep it clean. So my question is does any one know of any home remedies or over the counter meds that will fix this. Because it is getting bad I have tried alot of things and it clears it up but then he eats or drinks or chews on his fingers and it comes right back. any help would do thanks!!!!
I ended trying the Lansioh Lanolin lotion because i had some on hand and wow it cleared it up so fast thanks so much for all the suggestions.
I would maybe try a little Bag Balm. It sounds weird but you find it in the aniamal isle it is for sore utters.It is in a green tin and the nice part is it will last you for ever!! It really helped with my son!
Nikki -- looks like you've got a good variety of answers!!! I also used aquaphor for my daughter when she had this. There is also a product out by Johnson & Johnson that is really good for that too - I found it at Target, in the baby aisle. It was basically like a stick (almost looks like deodorant) that worked EXTREMELY well, and wasn't as messy (or as expensive!) as Aquaphor.

My daughter had the same thing when she was about 2. The doctor gave us a prescription hydrocortisone cream, and we applied Aquaphor to the rash several times a day (it's like vaseline, and you can buy it at the drugstore). It came and went for a while, but it's gone now. Good luck!
i always kept a thin layer of neosporin on the area that was gretting the rash, it killed thebacteria and kept the skin dry underneath.

My son had the same problem. We ended up using Lansioh Lanolin lotion. The same stuff you use if your are breast feeding.Or aquaphor for kids. The key to the rash going away is to create a dry barrier for it. The Lanshioh is a fantastic product, have used it for rashes and even early treatment of scares. Hope this helps!!

Have you tried a little vasaline? I've used that with both of my boys (3 years and 11 months).
When my daughter has had any face rashes or dry skin on her face, I've used Weleda's calendula cream. It heals and protects very well, at least on the issues my daughter has had. You can buy it at Whole Foods and probably at some of the other natural foods/wholistic stores.

I would try a thin film of vaseline or other product that has water protection agent, like a sunscreen.
I would try cleaning it, drying it well & putting some vascaline on it for a few days. Good luck!
The only way to fix it is to keep his chin dry. It's from his drool, just as the doctor said. Keeping it clean and dry is really the only solution. Try bids on him, when you notice him drooling, a quick wipe and your good to go.

The rash from drooling won't stop until he stops teething or sucking his finers.
Try using Chapstick. It isn't slimmy or oily.
It is also good to use when your child or even an adult, has had runny nose where the skin on the nose is so dried and it peels or chafs, Chapstick is great for healing dry skin.
It will help keep the drool off of his chin.
Try Resinol-most "Mom & Pop" pharmacies carry this, but major pharmacies(like CVS) sometimes have it behind the counter as well. Our pediatrican we had back when our 10 year old daughter was born(we have 6 kids) recommended this "cream" for diaper rash. I have used it for everything from sunburns to chapped lips and various rashes(diaper & others)

Have you tried keeping it protected from the drool with Aquaphor? It works well to make a barrier between the skin and the drool. Some kids are just more sensitive to the drooling than others. It will unfortunately probably be worse with the weather starting to change. Hopefully this helps.

I second the recommendation for Aquaphor. We tried just about every kind of ointment there was when our daughter was a baby, and Aquaphor was, by far, the best for protecting and healing. We used it as a part of our daily diaper routine and we also used it anywhere on her that was rashy or prone to getting and staying wet. We used a special formuation of Aquaphor called Baby Healing Ointment (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=79538&...) but the original formula is fine, too. They have a huge tub of it at Costco, which is where we'd usually get it, since it was cheaper.

I always use Aquaphor on my little one. He is special needs and drools a lot. I put it on and it clears it up, but as anything like that you do have to continue to do this as he continues to drool. But this stuff works the best of everything I have tried. Be patient, sounds to me like you are doing your best. Try this stuff and see if doesn't work for your your little man.
i used aquaphor on my son & i never wiped at his rash, just blotted/patted it with a dry wash cloth. i also used aveeno oatmeal lotion a couple times during the day.
Chapstick works wonders for face rashes! It acts as a barrier and does not allow the moisture thru to their skin...similar to the reason why we wear it on our lips!!! I used it for my little droolers and also kept it on hand for the cold blustery winter months. My son would get really dry skin on his cheeks and chin if we were out in the cold, so I would slather it on before going out.
Good Morning Nikki I think I used to wash the area made sure that it is dry and then use a light amount of vasoline. You may have tried this but I am surprised your doc. didn't give you a salve to put on it since he is so young and that should keep it dry for awhile anyway. Take care of that little tyke he will be a man before you know it. I have three children and four grand children and in no time they are in school and then and then. smile K.
My son gets the same thing and i have found that putting a bib on him a little more helps catch the drool and prevent moisture form collecting under his chin. also this may sound weird but diaper rash cream gets rid of it overnight! Just keep the area as dry as possible and as your son grows it will gradually subside.

My son had the same rash. My pediatrician told me besides keeping it clean, to apply a thin layer of vaseline on the affected area. This provides a barrier that keeps the drool off!

My youngest did this alot. I used lotions and chap stick. Just dabbed it on. It helped and he finally stopped. I was surprised he never was scarred it got so bad. The dr always said it looked worse than it really was.
I would use a mixture of Basic H2 and Small Wonders creamy Baby Oil from Shaklee. Both are natural and very safe for baby. Let me know if you would like more info or to know how to get it. I have been using these two products on my son (now 17 months)since he was weeks old and it has taken care of everything from eczema to cradle cap and diaper rash.

I would keep the area dry and clean and apply lip chap, with no flavoring to it on his little chin.That should keep his droole from making his chin sore and heal the rash.Babys droole while teething and it is a challenge. This is what we used on my baby sister and it worked great.
My daughter sucks on her lips alot and I use the Baby Aquaphor and it clears it right up. I even sneak in her room at night after she is asleep and put more on in case she has licked it off. It is safe for kids I highly recommend it!
If it truly is just a 'drooling rash', just putting something like vaseline jelly will keep it from reoccuring. It would mean reapplying during the day but it would sheild the area.
Vaseline or A and D ointment should both help.
My nephew had a side effect of his medication that caused him to constantly lick around his lips, causing a big red chapped ring around his mouth. The doctor told my sister to use diaper rash cream- so Desitin is what she used. Cleared it up within a couple days. I've seen other children use this for chapped areas, other than their bottoms, as well.
