16 Month Old with Diarrhea

My 16 month old had a stomach bug on Sunday and Monday and had diarrhea. She is still not back to normal, she is going poop usually once a day (twice yesterday), but it is still between liquid and semi-solid. I am pushing fluids into her. She is having some milk, which I am not sure if I should totally stop. Should I bring her to the dr's or is this something I can just watch.

What can I do next?

Hello J.,

I would stop the milk for a few days. get the probiotics and just make sure she's hydrated. her stomach may be sensitive for a couple of weeks. Good luck! ~C.~

When anyone has diarrhea - always remember the BRAT diet.

Bananas, Rice, Apples/Applesauce, Toast. Those are things to help the system with diarrhea.

Put her on a probiotic, eating yogurt or a supplement....that may help too. Sounds like it is not too bad as long as she is not dehydrated. Gatorade or something may help replenish her system.

Hi J.,

It is probably the stomach virus going around again. I just took my daughter to the doctor yesterday and they said it is going around. It could last up to two weeks. I am in the same boat as you, I am so sick of changing dirty diapers. She has almost had it for a week now. Just keep giving her lots of fluids and I would say the milk it fine as long as she is not throwing up. Hope this helps.

i would probably just watch her, besides if you are still pushing fluids, then her stools will remain very soft and even a little runny. if she doesn't have fever and is tolerating food, i would just watch her a couple more days. you know how it is when you have had a bug- it takes about a week for all those digestive things to get back to normal. hope this helps.
