my 19 month old has had watery dark green diarrhea causing diaper rash, for 5 days. Shes eating but need ideas on what would be good. was going to make her a drink in my blender with banana some ice and a little of her almond milk, sha is allergic to milk and eggs. Are bananas good since she has diarreha. i know rice is good too, but what suggestions could you give me that might bind her up a little?

What can I do next?

If it has been going on for 5 days, you should have a call into the pediatrician or the advice nurse. If she does gummies, the probiotic ones are pretty good.

My 4 year old just went through something similar, and the doc said no sugars, no fruits, no fruit juices, as this can all irritate the stomach and bowels and make it worse. One doc said the BRAT diet, but then the other doc at the ER said eat what they want.

We had a lot of luck with baked potatoes or roasted/fried with little oil also.

I hope she gets better soon! Its not fun.

Even with those dietary restrictions, you can easily do the standard BRAT diet. And I assume she likes solid food at 19 months.

B - bananas (no need to blend into a puree, but you can if you want to)
R - rice
A - applesauce
T - toast (hopefully you have found milk/egg free bread for her to eat)

I would also try some powder probiotics in her food. This will help balance out the good and bad bacteria in her gut. Do you give her juice? To much juice or fruit (berries/apples) can cause diarrhea. Good luck to you both :)

Pumpkin puree (or pumpkin pie filling) works well, if she tolerates squash. Sorry she isn't feeling well. Keep an eye out for dehydration, it can happen pretty quickly in little ones. My kids are fans of the Pedialyte popsicles that look like Otter Pops.
