1St Trimester Insomnia

I am just about 8 weeks pregnant and although I'm tired, I often can't fall asleep until almost 11 pm and then wake up to go to the bathroom around 3 am and never really fall back asleep. I am so tired during the day I've been laying on the couch, dozing off while I've planted my son in front of the TV. He is going stir crazy! I try so hard not to nod off, and when I do nap, the sleeplessness at night gets even worse.

I'm going to the doctor on Friday for an exam and will discuss it with her then, but in the meantime, has anyone experienced this and is there anything I can do? I'm like a nauseated zombie! Thanks :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your commiserating! It's nice to know that I'm not alone. I'm in my second trimester now so my ob says Tylenol PM is safe. I've used it twice and gotten about 8 hours of sleep, so that's good. However, I was up at 3 am this morning... I got a lot done today! For those of you who are still sleepless, hang in there because the meds will help!

Crazy but true -
I had Madden's football book next to my bed-
One knee equals two feet.
I do like football - but this book would put me to sleep everytime.
I love John Madden and don't want anyone thinking his book was bad - but at 2am - it was perfect for me.

Maybe find a book - without suspense - - your mind relaxes a little - and you may be able to sleep.

Also - I put a paper and pen next to the bed - so if there is something I wanted to rememeber - I would write it down - and that thought wouldn't keep me up.
Unfortunately - I also had trouble sleeping in the 8th & 9th months too - with many bathroom trips.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I'm 10 weeks and I just can't get a good night's sleep. I'm tired all day at work and then we I do get home and get in the bed I spend most of the night trying to go back to sleep after my 2-3 trips to the bathroom. I may get 3-4 hours of sleep a night and none of it is the deep restful kind that leaves you feeling refreshed in the morning. I thought I was the only one feeling like the walking dead.

I think our matress and box spring set are the biggest culprits, so my husband and I are thinking of investing in a sleep number bed. We tried it out in the store and loved it. If anyone who's pregnant and has one I'd love to hear how it worked for you.

I have gotten it through this entire pregnancy so far and I am 21 weeks. According to my doctor it happens and there is not much that can be done other than dealing with it. I know it is hard, I have an
active 18 month old and somedays it is so hard

It is happening to me as well. It got a little better as time goes on. I checked with my friends and they complained of the same thing. Somewhere I read, it said that extra iron may help. Of course, you will want to talk to your Dr. about this. Good luck! It will get better and the outcome is well worth it!!! :)

It may just pass in a few weeks but if it doesn't you may want to get a blood test to see if your thyroid is ok. It's so much harder the second time around chasing a toddler!!!

I have had it this whole pregnancy. I only have about 11 days left and it has been worse the third trimester b/c you get up more frequently. Good luck, I know how you feel. I have two daughters, 3 1/2 and 21 mo. I know the zombie feeling

Calcium when you go to bed at night. Your bones need it and it is a natural relaxative.
