First off, I'll share my 6 month old sons schedule, and then ask my few questions. My son wakes up at 7:15 and eats maybe 1/4 cup rice cereal with some fruit mixed in. He's up til about 9:30 when he takes an 8 oz bottle and goes down for nap. At 11:30, he wakes up and eats about 1/2 of the stage one getber food of fruit. At that time, he won't eat morw. At 1:30, he takes another 8oz bottle. Up until the last few days, he would go down for a nap again til about 4 or 4:30. At 5, he eats 1/2 a thing of veggies of gerber baby food. He follows that with about 5 oz of formula. At 8:30, we start his bath, bottle, then bed. The last few days, getting him down for an afternoon nap has been difficult, but by 4, he's a pain! Is he just not needing as much sleep now? Also, how can I get him to eat more solids and cut out the bottle after he eats his veggies @ 5? My first son was so easy, and schedules came naturally to him and I. Not as much luck withbaby # 2.

What can I do next?

I think it's a little too early to cut out his night time bottle. Even though pediatricians recommend starting babies on solids at 6 months, they still need either formula or breast milk more than solid food. My 7 month old son eats a half container of fruit mixed with rice cereal in the morning. He has a 6 oz bottle before his nap at about 10 or 11 and then sleeps an hour or two. When he wakes up from his nap, he has a 6 oz bottle when he is hungry. He doesn't have any more solids until dinner time, around 5:30 or 6. I feed him a half container of veggies mixed with between 1/4 and 1/3 cup of rice cereal. He eats that, then has his bath and a little play time to wear him out. I make him a 6 oz bottle for bed time, although he doesn't always drink the entire thing. Ease up on the solids a little and give him a break. He is still learning what in the heck a schedule is! Good luck!

I think you are feeding him way too much!!! I have a 7 month old and he does not eat that much baby food in a weeks time. He is still so little and does not have the digestive tract that is mature enough.
Sleep: that will come and go as he develops. I know it is hard but do not compare him to your first...use as a guide but dont worry:)
Try taking him for a walk so he will nap, put him in a baby carrier. Sometimes they dont want to conform to our schedule...so we have to mix it up:)
No such thing as a schedule with a baby.....you will find they will nap around the same time but as soon as yo uthink you have a schedule they change it on you and you get frustrated.
Please reconsider feeding so many solids....it actually may encourage food allergies down the road and that is worse than anything compared to a grumpy baby at 4pm.
Hang in there:)

I think what you are experiencing is the natural differences between our babies/toddlers and children. As adults, we also vary in the times we wake up, what we eat, how much we eat and yes, if we needs naps or not. While you may feel he would do better with a nap, he has changed his habits, at least temporarily and it is very hard to get a baby to nap when they don;t want to, without a lot of tears. I agree with some of the other posts in that he is too early for you to be taking away his bottle at the 5:00 feeding. Babies need a certain amount of calories as well as hydration. Taking away that 5:00 bottles may make him very cranky as he might become parched and need his fluids.

I think you are really actually feeding him to much. You have to think of how small his little belly is and how much you are putting into him. Especially because he is taking an 8oz bottle with each meal. He needs his formula at this age more so than the solids. I'm not saying that solids aren't good for him but just not as much. Every little one is different as well. Your first one went well. My grandaughter has her bkfst. rice cereal and maybe 5oz of milk, she will nap at about 10:00 this is waking at about 7-8am. Then she gets up and has veggies, waits a bit and has her bottle, again about 6oz. She will sleep in the afternoon but doesn't normally nap until around 2ish.
Her 10am.nap is only for about 1hr. and the same in the afternoon. She has her dinner at about 6pm. that being abt.half a jar of veggies, she doesn't always have her btl. right away. Throughout the day she has her juice as well, (apple). She has her bath about 7:30pm. and normally asleep about 8-8:30pm. So she is really only sleeping abt. 2-3hrs. through the course of the day and she is now 9mos. Hope this helps. Take care.

Sounds like you have him on a great schedule. At 6mo I think he still needs both naps. Try getting him more active before the second nap. Wear him out. By 6mo my kids were eating an entire stage 2. The only suggestion I would have to get him to eat more is try a variety and find something he really likes. My 8mo loves stage 2 Beech Nut Garden Veggies (has potatoes, peas, grn beans and carrots). If he eats a little more during that last meal, he may not want the bottle at 5. Good luck!
