It could possibly be a hernia. I have a friend who had one between the naval and stomach. After having it repaired is doing well.

Another idea could be her gall bladder. When people have issues with their gall bladder it isn't always constant or really painful. So this might be another thing that you ask the doctor about. I would

Please call the doctor and go see him or her. It is better to be safe than sorry.

I would take her to the doctor as soon as you can get in. It could be a hernia, they are very common in children. But if it is a strangulated hernia, which are the ones that cause vomiting and such, it could be life threatening. And it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Don't wait or guess at what it could be. Have a doctor check it out right away. If it's not serious, you'll have peace of mind. If it is appendicitis or something it shouldn't wait!

She could have appendicitis, but it's also likely that she has a bladder infection, esp if she takes bubble baths. A simple urine sample can answer your question, and if it's positive, a round of antibiotics should clear things up.

I would call your pediatrician immediately and have her looked at. That is my advice. Hope she is well.

My granddaughter was going through the same thing, and after many tests the doctor said that she was slightly constipated and to give her more fiber stuff or raisins. My daughter started giving Kylie oatmeal and sometimes put raisins in it-cut up for the little ones, and she also suggested yogurt-doesn't have to be the fancy ones just regular yogurt helps. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

This is so bizarre to read your post...my 6 year old has been complaining about the exact same thing, off and on, for about a year...I kept chalking it up to a nervous stomach with starting K-garten and all...I finally took her to the Ped last week...they have her charting when she feels bad on a calendar book...unhappy faces and the time when she feels bad and a star and the time when she poops..trying to find a pattern...and we took her for a stomach x-ray yesterday..no results yet, except to say that she had an amazing amount of gas in that area...the radiologist will give the report to the doc today and we should have results..our Ped indicated that a CAT scan may be next...we live just outside St. Louis...so will probably go to Children's for that...if everything is negative, then I can be happier knowing that its either gas or a nervous stomach...but I wanted to make sure it was nothing more serious. My son sarted to complain his belly hurting about a yr ago when we were working on potty training going poopies in the toilet,I took him right away the dr examined him and he was suffering from constaption but that's not alway's a good thing to hold it. So when was your daughter's last poopie,Another thing it could very well be appendix does it radiate to the right side I belive, does she collepse in pain (my son did it was scarry you'll know)if she is throwing up she need's to be seen. Also belly aches can be a sign of Lead Posioning,you don't have to live in an old house to get. So if you haven't already get her lead level checked I do every yr with my kiddo's. Hope it's nothing but constipation that is an easy fix.

Have your pediatrician check her for constipation. My son has been constipated twice now and both times he complained about pain behind his belly button. It only affected him when he layed down otherwise he played almost normal throughout the day, but would not eat and would barely drink anything. The doctors will tell you if she is constipated and then either give her an enema at the office or have you do a Peds Fleet enema at home. Then probably have you give her Mryalax for a few days to finish cleaning her out. Hope this helps.

Have you checked her for an umbilical hernia?

When my daughter was about 6, she started having abdominal pain so bad, she would turn pale & double over.
I took her to the doctor & while we were waiting in the exam room, she was laying on her side on the table. All of a sudden, the air smelled bad ---- she had passed a large amount of gas that she had been holding in.
After that, whenever she had the pain, I gave her a little book to read & had her sit on the potty til she relaxed enough to pass the gas.
Hope your solution is this easy.

HI, If it were appendicitis it would be more to the right side and down low. Have her lay on here back and slap the soul of her right foot. It will jar the body and the side will be in great pain if it is appendicitis. It may only be a hurrenia. If there is a feaver involvedaqnd right side pain have her checked for the appendicitis

you should contact your doctor because she could have a hernia in her belly button area my son did but he grew out of his.he would not get down or anything just like your daughter but it was very tender to the touch is your daughter like that?

It's defenitely not normal. I would say that it's something that needs to be checked out.

My son had that too, and we had the same fears, but then he never puked with it. We were told it was gas. The pediatrician said gas can be VERY painful for children, and told him to lay on the ground, face up, grab knees with hands and rock like a rockin chair until it quits. Amazingly it worked, and this is what he does when it happens. I would watch it tho; if this doesn't work, get her to a doctor if it doesn't resolve - don't take chances.

E. i am not sure but i would get her looked at asap. but my questions is when was her last stool. try having her sit in a luke warm bath for 10-15mins.

Without panicking, call your doctor. There is always an on-call doctor to take nighttime calls, or call and talk to the nurse. They will be able to assess the situation well enough to advise you on an immediate course of action and I know that I always feel much better when I call mine. I hope all is well!

I don't know much about that, other than the appendix is on the right side and that's usually where the pain is...? I would definitely take her to the ped.

Have you taking her to the doctor yet. May be its a hernia, if it was her appendicits she would be hurting more on her right side and not so much aroung the belly button.

I would be taking her to the doctor. My granddaughter suffered the same pain and indeed did have appendicitis. My daughter took her to the doctor and the tests they gave her all came back negative. However, she kept having pains etc. and had an x-ray. The doctors didn't "see" anything, but when her regular physician looked at the x-ray she realized that her appendix had erupted. So, don't hold off. Better safe than sorry. My granddaughter was very sick, but praise God, she got back to emergency in time to take care of the problem before everything was really messed up.

I would call my doctor and talk to the nurse that works there. I don't think it sounds like appendicitis, however I am not a nurse. i have heard a lot about children not dealing with stress well at younger and younger ages, is she having trouble at school? I would still have her check by her doc, or call the nurse though.

I don't think you are freaking out, but I seriously would go to the Pediatrician, it might just something small, but if it is really the appendix you should have it checked out.

We had a scare with our daughter and the whole stomach hurting thing. We took her to the ER. (She was screaming and wouldn't move) The Doctor pushed down (h***) o* her belly and she didn't scream about that. The doc told me that is you push on their belly and they scream it's probably appendix, but if not, it's not. It has helped us to stay calm if she starts complaining about her tummy. I hope this helps some, but I would take her to the doc if the hurting persists.

Have you had her checked for a hernia. That is very possable. It runs in family alot of time. Bith my nieces, mom, and nephew had one. It sound like the sysyoms. You need to ask your dr. to feel or run a test to see. Very easy to repair.I was ther through 3 of them having it. Boy it really sounds like it. Hope this helps! Even if it stops for a while , take her in and have dr. check. If the strain or cough sometimes they pop out and hurt go on and off. Throwing up and not eating right. PLEASE check it out! J.

I've heard of hernias near the bellybutton but that may be just infants and toddlers...? Also, you might try keeping a journal of what she eats and see if there's any correlation i.e. dairy, gluten, sugar, etc (I had to do this my entire childhood!) Acid Reflux could result from certain foods and I've used Apple Cider Vinegar for years and its cured mine totally (I use a shot glass for the 2 tbsp in the am since its kinda yucky) Or...a little known bad-guy: H-Pylori. Too much to type, I'd look it up-its not serious and takes a simple blood test to detect and antibiotics to clear it up. Hope this helps!

You might want to consider taking her to the doctor. This is the main symptom when my daughters get strep throat. I know it sounds strange but the doctor said a stomache is one of the main complaints of small children when they have it.

Hi E., You are not at all overreacting!! Appendicitis is a very scary thing. It sounds like you might have it figured out. But, here's a couple of thoughts to keep in your pocket.
My sister went to Dr's for 2 years off and on before one Dr.(very good one) decided she needed an appendectomy. Afterwards he stated that it would have been just a few hours before it ruptured. She was 7 when it was removed.
Hers, as well as my husband's, was not exactly where they expected it to be.

I had that same pain as a kid when my ulcer was active. There is a bacteria that they can due a blood screening for called Helicobacteria (it can cause ulcers). At the same time it will cause something called gastritis, which is an inflammation of the intestines causing extrememly painful gas. The pain centers behind your belly button and can also cause you to doulbe over in pain. They have gas drops at Walmart, the kind you use for babies. The equate cheap stuff actually works better than the expensive mylanta. The only way to get completely rid of it is to find out if she has had helicobacteria and they will put her on an antibiotic that will kill it.

Acute pain that lasts for more than a few hours might be an appendicitis. She could have a bowel blockage if she is not wanting to eat very much and the fact that she has vomited. I would definitely take her to the doctor. I would have also done it 3 days ago. I work at a Children's Hospital and we see this all the time. Goodluck!

Make sure she isn't constipated. I've found that my daughter (4 years old) has belly discomfort often...and it seems to be related to constipation. She has a bowel movement every day, but they are hard pebble shaped output. I was told by my pediatrician that unnoticed 'constipation' is the most common cause of stomache aches/naseau in children.

My 4 year old tell me the same thing!! One minute she's fine and the next she's curled up in a ball telling me her tummy hurts. Then she's fine again. This has been going on for us since JANUARY! We've seen the Dr. and even had an ultrasound of kidneys and bladder to no avail! It's still going on!! I've heard that appendicitis can cause this kind of pain but, at least in my case, it's been going on too long for that. Maybe a hernia??

Umbillical hernias are actually fairly common in kids and could have caused by a forceful vomitting; these are usually relatively harmless but you should see a doctor, however this is normally associated with mild swelling to a giant knot at the umbillicus... as far as appendicitis it would probably be a constant pain, she would most likely have a low-grade fever, and she would have some generalized weakness/soreness... an easy way to have a better idea is to gently press where she says it hurts and ask her if it feels better while you are pressing on it then ask about her pain when you release pressure... appendicitis causes 'rebound pain' where there is relief when pressure is applied but almost worse pain when the pressure is removed. She could have gas but that should have passed by now and she could have a bowel issue or constipation... has she had BM's? No matter what, if it interferes with eating and has lasted for a week I would see the doc, but don't rush to the emergency room if she's still her norm, just set a regular appt. GOOD LUCK!
