7 Month Old Food

Do you feed your 7 month old table food? My son likes both table food and his baby food and we have been giving him both. Does any one else give their 7 month old table food? Yes we make sure they are really small bites or really mashed up for him so choking shouldn't be an issue and we never leave him unattended while he is eating.

What can I do next?

Yup...if they seem interested and can manage to eat it! Teeth are NOT required, BTW!

My 8 and 9 month old daycare kids aren't doing too much still, but they love Rice Chex (neither liked cheerios or the normal cereals, so I tried the Chex and they were a hit!)...soft barely toasted waffle pieces..all sorts of other tidbits that the older kids get, I offer to the babies.

When my own daughter was a baby (shes 16 now), she was totally off baby food at 10 months old.

Yes! We absolutely fed table food, we just made sure that anything that went onto baby's plate was cut small, cooked longer, or mashed up so that he could manage it. My son was started pureed foods at 5 1/2 months and was off purees and onto strictly table food by around 9 months. His preference was for food with more texture than the purees from an early age, and it is much easier to feed modified table food than to puree everything anyway.

I give it to her in little bits, just like you, never leaving her alone either...so you're good!

We did. I never did baby food. DS always ate what we ate. Initially we would puree a single ingredient until he had tried most of the fruits and vegetables. After that we just chopped or pureed whatever we were eating. It's a great way to feed your child (assuming you eat a healthy diet - if not it's a great way to 'force' you to eat a healthy diet). They learn a huge variety of tastes, textures and smells. According to the current research this experimentation has a huge impact on their later eating habits. Besides, have you ever tasted baby food? Gross (yes even the organic stuff).

mine really wants table food, but she can't handle the textures. I just bought a baby mill on line last night and think i will start her on table food as soon as I can grind it up. She's been interested in our food for quite some time.

i do give my son table food. hes 7 and a half months and he loves it. im also still breastfeeding him and i see that he eats the baby food first before i let him try what im eating. its the only way i can get him to try meats because when he trys it in baby food form, he clams up then thinks everything i try to give him after that on a spoon is the same nasty meat. (have you tried that stuff? i dont blame him!!)
just dont over load him with too many new foods at once, you still want to keep allergies in mind! :)

Absolutely! Save yourself the money and feed them what you eat. If you can mash it with a fork, fine. If not, get a small food processor and throw it in. When I made vegetables for dinner, I just made extra, then when putting the leftovers away, pureed most of them and poured them in ice cubes. I'm a working mom, so that was perfect for taking to the sitter's. I'd grab two or three different fruits and veggies I'd frozen and put them in sandwich bags for their lunch.

This is such a great website for guidelines for baby food- www.wholesomebabyfood.com. There are tons of recipes if you are into making your own baby food, but even if you don't want to do this, the ages for introducing different foods are wonderful!

It is so great that you are feeding your 7 month old table food- getting him used to different textures and flavors is so beneficial for eating a variety of foods!
