I would suggest taking her to a dermatologist. A lot times they need something stronger than OTC treatments.

You have had a lot of very good responses so far! I would like to mention that foods that have shortening in them can bring on outbreaks in some people. (Me for certain!) I would be careful not to use any harsh skin care products without consultation. It may seem odd, but applying some olive oil to the skin with cotton ball and leaving on overnight can might help clear it up. I would recommend getting a few extra pillowcases that can be changed frequently.
Oatmeal and plain plain yogart can be eaten for a better complextion. S.

i am going through the adult onset of acne right now and my dermatologist had me buy sulfer soap which you can get at a dermatologist office and i had to take 30 days of doxicyline (to clear it from the inside) and i have to use retin-A on my face every night before bed and after my face is thouroughly cleaned.... i am acne free and have been for 30 days now.
If they do use the doxicycline on her and retin-a she DEFINITLY has to stay out of the sun on the antibiotics it will make her burn beyond belief. that is nothing to play with. The dr. advised that i take it at night on a full stomache after supper that way your blood levels from the meds are at it's highest while you are sleeping and pretty much back to normal when you are awake and out and about.

You need to get her to a dermatologist. Alot of that over the counter stuff makes acne worse. Most of all stay away from the pro active or whatever that stuff is that they advertise on tv. THAT WAS A NIGHTMARE FOR ME and everyone i know who tried it. some people can use it and it works but most people that i know can't.

good luck and let me know her progress if you take her.

I have never tried it for my son, but a friend of mine swears by Pro Active. That's what she gets for her teens. Last summer while we were in Gatlinburg, TN we went to the Craftmans Fair and at one of the booths, I bought some homemade soap that was made for acne for my son. It worked really great on him! If I can find the site to order it from, I will send it to you.

Visit www.niapads.com Scientists at NY University College of Medicine have shown that Niacinamide is superior to antibiotics such as Clindamycin in controlling acne. Use "Niapads" (Nicotinamide acne pads) for controlling your acne. It’s Simple for Pimple(C). One step process provides exfoliation, pore cleansing, prevention of Acne and Skin Lightening (acne scars).

Acne is caused from different things. Foods, working out, hormones, and chemicals on the clothes and skin. Over the past 5 years, I have helped many kids, teens, and adults with this issue. My suggestion is if it is hormonal issures, she use Arbonne's prolief creme - if it is from chemicals on the skin to use Arbonne's acne system(which contains no chemicals/it is all natural and puts the skin in a ph balance) if it is on the back and arms (use baking soda washing powders and no fabric softner or fabric sheets. Should you want to try Arbonne with a money back gurantee then contact me at ###-###-#### or email me.
Thanks for reading.
And please know, I love helping people get resutls with any issues they might be experiencing.

You didnt say how old she is...but if she is having true acne-not the pimples that dry up and go away etc... but if she is having real bad true acne-the kind that leaves scars and are big that seem to not come to a head-and if she has a lot of redness---I would go to a dermatologist and not mess around. She may get worse and develop lifetime scarring and pitting. If she has tried all the topicals that are prescription and it didnt help-they prescribe an antibiotic called minocyclin(sp?) that helps most. If not-birth control pills work wonders. The last resort and big gun-is Accutane. It works but is expensive unless you have good insurance. My son took it and once he finished- no more acne. He's 21 now and all this time he has only had a few occasional pimples. No big deal-considering he used to be called pizza face. Good luck.

Listerine or Sea Breeze or oatmeal scrubs seem to help my daughters, vinegar was also suggested to help but never tried it. The acne was so bad on one of them that it was on her back, neck, and chest. There are also dietary changes that should be made. not sure what but eating more vegtables and fruit with less fats and colas are a no-no.

M.,
Hello. I know I'm really late to respond here. I think you have to find what works for your granddaughter and if you have found that, then great. I know I have discovered oil free products work the best for me - Biore makes a great oil free line (can get at target or walmart). I have used so many different brands, but find that Biore cleaner, daily scrub and toner work the best for me and then I use Avon's ANEW self adjusting lotion. Since I have sensitive skin, I use a cleanser/scrub at night with lotion and in the morning I use a toner/astringent and lotion. Two easy steps twice a day. I have found my skin works better mixing products/brands. Although most consultants of any beauty brand will say not too mix brands, you just have to find the right mix that works. Just wanted share about the oil free products. Best of luck.

Consider the possibility of food and/or soap allergies. I had them all my life and didnt realize it until well into adulthood. Start by cutting out all processed additives & MSG - they make your body much more sensitive to allergens. Bulk up on fresh fruits and veggies (no more fried foods) and start using a sensitive skin face/body wash. If her skin clears, then you know its the additives bothering her. If not, start tracking down foods - coffee, nuts, onions, garlic, peppers, chocolate, etc. (I'm actually allergic to all those to some degree...) And tell her that Benadryl is her friend. :]
