Activities to Do with a Young Child

I am new to staying at home. I get bored, but it's so hard to leave the house sometimes, especially with breastfeeding. My baby girl is 3 months old. We don't have extra spending $, so I'm looking for inexpensive or free activities to do with my child. I tried a lapsit at the Sunset Library on Tuesday and had a nice time. I live around Alma School between Guadalupe & Elliot. Any ideas for me?

What can I do next?

story times at borders/barnes and noble are good. Also, once it cools off you can join the zoo. You just pay $50 for yourself because kids 2 and under are free (or is it 3?). Most museums are free for children that age. It's not for her at this point...it's for you. Good luck!

I would highly recommend joining MOMS Club. They are an organization for stay at home moms. The chapter I belong to is MOMS Club Gilbert West, but there may be a chapter closer to where you live. Lots of free/inexpensive activities for Moms and Kids, playgroups, Moms Nights Out. Plenty of fun activities, plus you'd make great friends all in a similar situation to yours, and have a terrific support network, too. I joined when my daughter was born 4 years ago, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Your dilema sounds like mine. I too run am running out of things to do. I wound't mind starting a Mom's group. In the mean time here are a couple you can join. One is through Mercy gilbert it is a breastfeeding support group they meet on Fridays just call Mercy Gilbert to register. Also Chandler regional has one that meets on Wednesdays. Here is a website to another one http://www.pump-n-go.com/moms%20group.htm. Chandler Library has lap sits on Tues and Wednesdays. (except in August). Also there is a neat museum in Mesa called the Arizona Museum for the Youth. Only $5.50 to get in. Hope that helps.

Hi M.,
A few things I did when my daughter was that age and I needed to get out of the house:

*Walk around the mall with her in the stroller, early morning before the stores open. Most malls open around 7am for walkers (look for where all the cars are parked to know which entrances are unlocked at that hour). You can breastfeed near the escalators where they have the nice sofas and chairs set up. (Also, once the mall opens, Nordstrom at Chandler Fashion has a nice room in women's restroom.)

*Baby lapsits at the library, which you are already doing

*Moms breastfeeding/support groups through the hospital. Banner Gateway, Banner Baywood, and Gilbert Mercy all have them. It's so nice to be able to talk with moms who have babies of the same age. You do not have to have delivered there to attend.

*Stroll around Babies R Us. They have a nice breastfeeding room.

*La Leche League has a 'Baby and Me Cafe' once or twice a month in Tempe and in the East Valley. They meet at a coffee shop or park and just hang out and chat. Easy to breastfeed there, for sure! You do not have to be a member to go to these. Check out http://www.lllofaz.org/ and click Phoenix Metro area to find the locations for that month.

Good luck!
T.
