Looking for something to soothe and eliminate red blotchy spots on neck under chin. Have already tried vaseline, baby powder, chap stick, aveeno baby lotion with oatmeal. Any better ideas??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I tried Aquaphor, then Lotrimin but no luck. Ended up going to the doctor. He prescribed a hydrocortisone ointment and told be to alternate that with a moisturizer. I hope this works!

I was told to use hydrocotisone cream and cetaphil lotion and soap on my son matthew when he had that problem on his legs. My best friend has a 2 year old with the same problem and they told her to use the same thing also. It takes a few weeks, but it does go away if you use these two things.

Hi!
My son had this about a month or so ago. I called the doctor and they told me to use Aquaphor. And it is ok if he gets a little in his mouth from touching his face etc. I used it for less than a week and it got rid of it completely.
Good Luck!!

My son has eczema, so I feel your pain. I've tried the aquaphor and it helps with the dryness, but not the rash. We are currently using Stelatopia by Mustela. We purchased it at Babies R US. It seems to be working so far! Arbonne is also really good.

my daughter gets rashes still from drooling and sucking on her pacifier and she's 2 1/2... L O L ... anyways, what always works for us is "burts bees baby face lotion" it comes in a little glass jar, it's kinda expensive but worth every penny spent on it! i have only been able to find the baby version at health food stores and the local drug store.... good luck! : )

L.~ My daughter has the same thing, a rash on her chin and in her neck, and I've tried all of those as well, try calmoseptine ointment, I got a bunch of little packs from the doctor. I used in one day and it was gone it was great! You need something with more strength than A & D or vaseline, some other options are Beaudrex's Butt Paste or Bag Balm. Good Luck!

A&D ointment. I know it's diaper rash cream but try it if you haven't already. It works wonders.

Hi L.,

My daughter use to get rashes on her chin too and I would use A&D Ointment. It works great!!! I would put it on at night time and by morning, the rash was just about gone. The A&D puts a layer over the skin so the drool can't get to it.

Dear L.,

I actually sell a product that helps this condition. It is a botanical product that is endorsed by the pediatricians and does not have all the chemicals that other products have in them. It works very nicely. It is our Arbonne baby line. I have a personal testimonial from someone that uses this on her severe babie's excema and it is the only product that has helped over many prescription lotions. If you email me your email address I will send you some information. It truly is a wonderful product and I am proud to say I am a distributor for it!

There is a chance that the rash is fungal. Try using an antifungal ask your pharmacist to recommend something. Be sure not to get the cream too close to his mouth. It may take a few days to notice an improvement. Use the medication after you wash his face and at nap/bedtime. I'm on my space as a favorite with mama source and would like to know if this is helpful. Bag balm is also helpful it works as a barrier ointment which can heal and prevent the return of the infection/rash. Good luck!!!!!!!!

You might want to try something called Aquaphor. It's an ointment sold over the counter. My kids both use it to soothe their chapped, raw areas around their mouths. My son has a lot of anxiety and licks his mouth as a coping mechanism. It used to get so raw it would bleed. I tried the things you mentioned and finally stumbled across the aquaphor. It works very well and is painless. I may be slightly off on the spelling but if you are interested, let me know and I'll grab mine and give you all the details. Just send me a private message if you'd like more info. Good luck.

Hi L. - A persistent rash under the chin where liquid collects (drool!) could be caused by a yeast infection, if it hasn't responded to the things you have already tried. I would try lotrimin (OTC) or call your pediatrician for some Nystatin which also works very well. L. W

My daughter had the same thing, our ped told us to use lotion and 1% cortisone cream 2x a day for three days. It cleared up and then came back so when ever I notice it starting to come back I use lotion and it seems to go away, if it doesn't with the lotion I use the corisone cream and then it does go away. She also had a yeast infection in the creases of her neck, which was just a red patch that was not bumpy like what was on her chin. He had to prescrib a cream for that...

I use Aquaphor also! It is great at clearing up "drool rashes". My son is 20 months old and constantly teething! We use this as part of our night-time routine! I have also used the diaper rash cream by Arbonne (and I am NOT a Rep!), and it worked well too. So here are a couple more things to try! Good luck.

L.,
Try aquaphor, From Eucerin. It's great stuff, I use it on diaper rash as well as rashes on the face or neck ect. It's found pretty much in any store, walmart, Meijer. It's a skin protectant also so you can use it to prevent rashes from drooling. It's great stuff. A little pricey but well worth it and it lasts a long time. L.

Hi L.!
Like lots of the other responses, I also found Aquaphor by Eucerin to be the best. My daughter will occasionally get a rash around her mouth from drool because of her pacifier use at night, and since I've started putting Aquaphor on her cheeks at bedtime and naptime, she hasn't had anymore rashes.

We used Johnson & Johnson Naturals Cheek & Chin balm. It comes in a container much like a very small deodorant or a large oval chapstick. It worked very well to help the area, but what we ended up finding out (long story) is our son's problem was not drool as we had expected, but rather whatever his daycare provider was using to wipe his mouth after snacks & lunches. We only used warm damp paper towels at home. She used either dish rags or baby wipes and he was too sensitive for those at the time. Since leaving the daycare provider he has not had a problem. So you may want to take a look at what you're using on his face as well that could contribute to the problem. Best of luck to you!

L., all of us shouldn't put anything on our skin that has mineral oil or petroluim products. And I can suggest Arbonne Products for your infant. They have a line just for children and babies. ABC products they are called. All are pure and safe, no animal by products or mineral oils. The baby oil is even made from plant oils. They test their products extensively for 5 years before selling them. You will need an Arbonne Rep. or put in your zip code for one near you. Or I can get them as I am a rep. We do not have a territory. I hope it is okay with the site to tell you that. You have options. Good luck L.. Pam R

Hi L. I know exactly what you are talking about. My little guy had the same problem and the DR.s just told me to try the same things that you have. It wasn't untill I finally got irratated with the Dr. that they finally gave me something that worked. Due to all the drooling they will sometimes get a fungus that can only be cured by an ointment called Triamcinolone. Try it and you will be amazed!! Good Luck

Hi L.,

The only thing that worked for me (and it was at the recommendation of his pediatrician) was Aquaphor. At first I didn't want to use it because the texture is gross and similar to Vaseline, but I used it, and I'm glad I did! But I had to put it on at least 3 times a day...

I know it's trial and error for everyone...good luck!!
