I am taking a short flight LA to Vegas with my 2.5 month old and I didn't know that I am ot supposed to fly with babies until they are 3 months....or so I have heard. Has anyone had any problems flying with a baby younger than 3 months...is it okay to travel with baby?

What can I do next?

We traveled with our son at that age for an 8-hour flight and he was just fine, we just made sure to give him a bottle at takeoff and landing to help him equalize his ears. The motion of the plane actually helped him sleep through almost the entire flight! I did just learn a new tip from my doctor on how to stay healthier on flights, check with your pediatrician if it's okay to do this with your baby though. My doctor recommended putting a little bit of Neosporin on the inside of your nose, as the air on flights is dry, and causes cracks in the nasal passages, which is how you are more susceptible to germs, etc. Plus he said the Neosporin is an antibiotic, so it assists in fighting off any germs. Don't know if this is safe for kids, but may want to check with your doc. At least you can use it for yourself so you don't get anything and pass it on to the kids. :) Good luck, and enjoy your trip!

Oh just be careful if you decide to go because sometimes there is a good amount of turbulence on the approach into Vegas, enough to make me queasy.

I traveled 12 hours with my 2.5 year old from the Netherlands to L.A. That has been the easiest age to travel so far!

Just remember to nurse or feed with the bottle during take off and landing to help with the ears' altitude adjustment and ignore the bad attitude from people who don't understand. You will never see them again!

Good luck!

You"ll be fine with a flight that short. Just be sure to bring the diaper bag as a carry on in case you need to change a diaper - stinky babies in small confined spaces are no fun. I flew with my 2 month-old son from LA to Portland, Ore. and encountered no problems. The great thing about babies this young is they sleep most of the time anyway. Just be sure to keep her away from anyone with a cough, but that shouldn't be much of an issue at this time of year anyway.

It's fine. I travelled with both my kids when they were 6 weeks old and those were 14 hour flights so don't worry about the short trip to Vegas. Hints for easy travel include gate checking your stroller, feeding your baby either with breast or bottle during take off and landing, and scoping out which bathroom on the plane has the changing table. Good luck and have a fun trip.

I work for an airline and we have babies getting on board that are sometimes only a couple weeks old. The airlines wont stop you. I think some people are worried about all the
germs and the babies immune system not being strong. I heard the same advice when mine were born about not taking them out in public. Do what you feel is best. Have fun

It's fine to travel at this age. Families who adopt newborns fly home with them DAYS after their brith and they are just fine. I would just make sure you have things for baby to suck on to help them equalize his/her ears (take off and landing especially) like a bottle, pascifier, breast-feed, etc.... This will help to take away the discomfort he/she is too young to understand or "fix" himself/herself. If you're worried about germs they now have individual air purifiers that are made to fit directly over the seat air vents you have in the plane. You just fit it over the top of yours and babies and your air is purified. I think you can get these at speciality travel storse or on-line.
