Hi! So, we are having my son's 4th birthday party here on Saturday. It's mostly family, but there will be 5 kids total (2 are mine). I was trying to think of fun activities to do with them. I already have planned a slip n slide, water balloons, and making paper airplanes. What else can we do? The party starts at 4pm and will go on until maybe 8-9 ish. Can you help me think of any other activities that are more airplane / up in the sky / fun things to plan for the kids to do?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the great ideas! The reason it's going to go on so late is because it is mostly family and they are all driving about an hour to get here. So, they stay for a while, which is totally fine with me. Bed time will be ok because it's a weekend and it's summer now. It doesn't even get dark here until 8:30-9 now. Thank you!!

Treasure hunt.

Really though, you don't have to plan their every minute. Kids this age... are very much able to just play and entertain themselves. My son and his friends do. My son is 4.

You have activities already. That is fine.

That is a long party.
And into the night.
What about bedtime?

Get an egg, and they race with it on a big spoon to the finish line. Or use a plastic egg, to avoid the mess.

What about making pretend tickets to different cities? Or a flight simulator video game. For favors, what about the small toys with a parachute attached.

Can you get old cardboard, cut into wings, let the kids paint/marker/color/sticker and decorate them, strap them on the kids arms like they have wings (use pipe cleaners?) and let them fly around outside. I googled "cardboard airplane on arm for children" and found a couple of pictures.

I was also going to suggest kites and airplane races! They also still sell those old school foam/wooden airplanes that you assemble and then fly, those would probably be a big hit. They sell (I think Oriental Trading Co) solid color kites that the kids could decorate with puffy paint, stickers or foam stickers and that could also double as their party favor. I loved the idea of having a cart with drinks, etc. and single serving airplane snacks as food, very cute. I think if hte party is going to go on that long, I'd stick with the games/crafts you have and add one or two more and let the kids play the rest of the time. They don't need to be engaged the entire time, they'll be happy playing. You might even consider setting up stations for each activity and then letting them do them as they like throughout the night.

off the top of my head

pin the propeller on the plane.
craft time with big stickers, markers and boxes (think human plane),
sky and cloud(white balloons) decorations with little airplanes taped and pinned
little airplanes hanging from the fan pulls
put a 'runway" somewhere with little velcro planes and little lego men to "wave the planes in"
an airport sign in the yard
the invites decorated like tickets
a map table cover outfitted with magnifying glasses.
use a laundry cart, or fashion something with wheels that would resemble a flight attendent cart to hold the food, ice bucket with sparkling juice, or juiceboxes), you could dress like the attendant
a pilot uniform for your little birthday man.
snacks in single serving packages, like airplane food
cloud cake with little airplanes on it (easier than a plane cake, lol)

i might add more later, what a cute idea!!, it makes me want a little boy :)
