Airtravel Question with Kids

We are leaving for FL in a couple days with our kids (6,3,1), and I havn't flown in a while and am unsure what I can bring on the plane. Can I bring milk in a bottle? Water bottles? I plan to pack all toiletries in my check in, so I dont have to worry about the 3 ounce thing, but am unsure about food supplies for the baby. Any suggestions about flying would be helpful! I have flown with the older 2, but not the baby :)

What can I do next?

You can't bring water bottles through security, but you can bring food/milk for the baby. If you use formula and need the water for mixing, I would buy one of those travel containers that have separate containers for formula. Then you can pre-serve the formula (whatever amount you need), and then you just pour in the bottle when you are ready to feed. This way, the bottle won't go bad. If you are more specific about the water you use (for instance, I always used that "baby water"), then you can buy water bottles once you get through security, and they will allow you to bring that on the plane. Have fun in FL!

I've flown many times this year with my five year old. You CAN bring liquids for your child (only). I always take several juice boxes with me for the flight. I usually put them in a big ziplock bag and put the bag alone in the gray bin and tell security they are for my child. No problems whatsoever!!

TSA has everything listed on their website. It's really helpful. You can run a search for traveling with children.

Have fun!

enjoy your trip - we leave for orlando in about 3 weeks! :) i'm excited too!

doublecheck the tsa website for the specifics, but water is a no-no & milk probably is too (unless it's breastmilk or formula). you can take items purchased AFTER the security checkpoint onto the plane, but you have to trash all liquids over 3oz before security... that includes water/drink bottles that have never been opened. it totally sucks - especially when you're traveling with kids. when our son was needing milk regularly (not formula or bm, just cow milk), we just brought an empty sippy cup & bought milk in the airport before getting on the plane - they don't always have milk available for drinking in flight, sometimes just for coffee.

have a great time!

I always read the do's and don'ts on the TSA website before I fly. It is very helpful and has allowed us to always have a trouble free trip through security. You are allowed to bring a reasonable amount of formula, breastmilk or juice (the juice was new since I traveled last) through security if you have kids. Those items do not go in the quart size ziploc baggie but you do have to declare them at the start of security screening. Water is a no-no until you are through the screening process. Make sure to declare any liquid or gel medications you are carrying on the plane as a lot of people forget that they have baby Tylenol or other items stashed somewhere.

What other advice are you looking for? I travel a lot by air so email if you have other specific questions.

i agree, check with the tsa website, but you should be able to bring bottles of milk for the baby. i think the rule of thumb is enough for the flight, like maybe 2 or three bottles. we traveled with an 18 month and were able to take a couple of bottles of milk with no issues. make sure you delcare it if asked. the sippys for older kids or water bottles are not allowed. we had to dump sippys out at the security gate. werent trying to sneak in, just forgot about them! pack carryons light....you have to put everything on the security belt including stuffed animals, etc. also have kids wear slip on shoes as they have to take their shoes off too. And, if you can, have one adult man the kids and the other wait at the end of the belt to grab your stuff. it can be confusing and you dont want someone to take your carry ons or have a little one walk away!! i believe you can take food on, like snacks, it is the liquid thing that they are strict about!

Just one thing to add about bringing milk--the milk in a bottle was fine, but we didn't even think about the ice we used to keep it cold! They made us throw out our ice pack at security. When I pleaded with them about what to do with the milk on an 8 hour flight, they gave me a ziploc and said we could get ice from a vendor past security. Their ziploc leaked, so now I know to bring my own ziploc to fill with ice!

We go to Florida once a year with the boys and I do know that food is not a problem but you cannot bring any liquids through the security check points but once you get through that you can purchase water and other beverages and snacks and fruits and what not. It is a little expensive but when traveling with kids I guess you've gotta do what you gotta do when you travel with kids. Anyway have a blast if Florida and say Hi to Mickey for me.

I think you can bring a baby bottle with milk but no water bottles. I know I searched high and low to find a juice box or something I could pack for my daughter that was 3oz.or less and couldn't find anything. I just brought her snacks that were dry like crackers, cookies that sort of thing and a empty sippy cup I filled at the water fountain once past security. You can't even bring a snack size applesauce it is tricky.
