Am I the Only One with This Sippy Cup Problem

I like the playtex cups. They do not leak as easy and they have a hard tip from which to drink from. All the nubby cups have a soft tip and the kids like to chew on them. They leak and I do not like them. The only issue is that they have valves and they do need to be taken out and cleaned or they will get mildew in them. They do sell replacement valves. I think the cups overall are good. You can find them in target or walmart and often times they are offered in a two pack and it is a little cheaper. They also show the recommended ages for the different cups that they sell. Good luck

Ive always used gerber and playtex and had no problems. If the nuby ones are the soft spouts, the odds are that the vent hole is not open and wont allow the air flow.....HTH:)

Only the hard-spouted ones ever worked for my son. The soft ones leaked all over. I think the Playtex ones were the best (like this: http://www.playtexbaby.com/CupsMealtime/Sipster-Cup)

I had the same issue with my 15 month old. Can you son use sippy cups with a hard/solid mouth piece, as opposed to the nipple type...if so, use the Playtex sippy cups..that is all we use now. Hope this helps.

I used the playtex sippys with the hard nozzle for when she first went from bottle to sippy. Then we graduated her to a straw. I stayed with the playtex cups with the straws because they were easy to assemble. But I hated the playtex. The liquid seeps up out of the straw. I like the munchkin and gerber nuks with the straws.

We go through probably almost every kind of sippy cup made. With each child I just used the trial and error method. When I found one that worked for them I stuck with those. My 14 month old likes to use a straw so he does pretty good with the straw sippy cup. I think you may just need to see what he ends up liking...

With the Nubys, I would take a fork or knife and make the vent hole you are talking about a little bigger. Those are what I used when transitioning.

Mine does that too. My son (15 months) pulls it up himself.

We only had one Nuby cup (only had it because my MIL bought it). I hated it. It was too much like a bottle in my opinion. I used a variety of other sippy cups (mostly the Playtex ones or the Take & Toss ones).

We did not use sippy cups. My daughter hated them and wouldn't drink from them. There is no need for them. They weren't even invented when I was a child.

My daughter drank milk from a bottle twice a day until she was three, and drank from a regular cup, no cover, at mealtimes starting at 14 months. Most children can learn to drink from a regular cup at 14-16 months old.

Straw cup is better.

yup-we found that my sons nose blocked the vent at the top of the lid-poor design. There is one nuby cup that doesn't do it-my friend used it & I'm not sure which one it is-I think the cup itself has a twisted design to it....we switched to these:

I like them because they don't leak and there are no stinky valves to fall out or lose in the dishwasher. The only issue is that I think the dishwasher gets so hot that it kind of "re-seals" the valve-making it difficult/impossible to drink from- so before I hand my son his drink, I would just poke it with a knife & problem solved!

Oh-and we only use sippy's when we are on the go! He was drinking from a regular cup with no lid by the time he was a year old. Kids learn fast-I didn't even think of it, but my mother in law trained him. :)

I suggest using cups similar to the old Tupperware cups. Or use the lids that are supposed to have stoppers, just take out the stoppers. The stoppers are nice for carrying cups around, but while eating at the table and learning to drink from a cup, I would stick w/o the stopper.

My son would bite the Nuby so it leaked (never had that problem with my daughters). It took a long time to find a sippy my son liked. He will only drink milk out of cups with straws, but he recently discovered that if he flips it upside down and pushed the straw to the side, milk comes pouring out. I've waved my little white flag and gave him a regular old plastic cup for milk!!

I didn't even mess with a sippy cup - both my kids went straight to a regular cup at this age. Tupperware makes a great set of little kid cups that are only 2 oz. that are perfect to start with. I started with water so it wouldn't make a big mess, and after a couple days they had the hang of it and I switched over to milk.

My son HATED sippy cups. We went straight to a straw cup. They are so much easier!!

My daughter's favorite is the Tommee Tippee sippy cup. They sell them at Babies R' Us. They have a solid tip, and are small (short) which makes them easy for new cup drinkers to tip them up to drink from them.
