I have not tried Rx ones but wanted to share that I take about 3000mg of Omega 3's (Nordic Naturals) a day to help with anxiety...amazingly it works for me. Just thought I would share.

Welbutrin had me thinking people were out to get me and that I could FLY - I was diagnosed as bipolar from that, and Lithium made me a zombie; but now it's known that Welbutrin can cause hypomanic response and I got off of it and the Lithium together -

Prozac works well for me - but (off of welbutrin) I don't have much anxiety.

My sister is on Lexapro, and it makes such a difference for her that she has her doctor call in heavy refills before hurricane season - she was without meds for a week after they left for Katrina, and she was almost hospitalized before they got her blood levels back up.

I have a fellow nursing student who has to take Xanax before tests - I don't know how she functions on it, but it seems to work for her.

Just know warning signs to look out for, and keep in mind that what works wonderfully for one person isn't so great for another.

Finally, for the people who tell you, "it's all in your head, don't be weak," and all the other CRAP that people spew about depression... our entire body is regulated by chemicals, and sometimes when those chemicals don't work it's called - Hypertension, Diabetes, Depression.. and only on one of those do they say, "snap out of it".. my dad told me (and my sister) for the longest, "grab your bootstraps and pull"... I finally told him - These (the prozac) - they make the straps as long as everyone else's, so we can reach them.

Feel better.

I have used Zoloft which helped for awhile but didn't help as much as needed to and didn't help with the anxiety. I currently (and have been for about 2 1/2 years) am on Cymbalta. It works great for me but I know it can be really bad to get off of. I also know you CANNOT miss a dose. If I do miss 1 or 2 days for some reason, it makes me dizzy and sick to my stomach. Each med effects every person differently. I would talk to your doctor about what you are feeling and see what they suggest. I am also with the other poster - don't let anyone tell you it's all in your head ! These meds do work and can make a huge difference in the way you feel and they way you see life ! HTH and hope you feel better soon :)

I have taken Lexapro in the past. I think it probably saved my life. The only side effect I had was when I first started taking it I was really thirsty. That only lasted a day or two but was worth the relief it provided me emotionally. Good luck.

Over the years I have been on Effexor, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Lexapro--all for depression. The Effexor kept me "too even-keel" where I didn't feel much emotion at all. I don't really recall the effects of Wellbutrin or Zoloft as I was admittedly self-medicating with other things while on them. I currently take the generic form of Lexapro (and have been for 5 years now, minus my pregnancy) and have had nothing but great results. I am never depressed, quite jolly most of the time, and am still able to cry at appropriate times--which feels good sometimes, you know?

I think each drug affects a person differently, so a drug that works well for one person won't necessarily be right for another. Good luck to you as you and your doctor seek out the right one. Unfortunately, it can be lots of trial and error.

I took Busbar years ago and hated it, so I got off. Xanax worked wonders for me, but I got hooked on them and had to quit.
I recently got off of Celexa, which worked pretty well, but I wanted to get off any meds b/c we are ttc, and I didn't want a pregnancy to start with any drugs in me. Getting off was horrible! It took a couple of weeks and I felt like a monster. I was so mean! Just ask your doc a lot of questions and make sure that he/she listens to your needs and wants. Hope you get out of your funk. :)
