I used all those creams and lotions to try to prevent stretch marks, but nothing worked for me. My friend's mother is from India and she swears by olive oil, and my friend ended up with zero stretch marks with her pregnancy and she is a tiny girl too. She put it on her stomach morning and at night before bed. Give it a try, and it is something most people have in their cabinets at home too. Good luck!!!

I realize that stretch marks are largely hereditary, but...
All the women in my family ended up with crazy stretch marks after just one child so I thought it was my destiny as well. I did try to combat them with Origins Cocoa Therepy and it worked- I didn't get a single mark (knock on wood, I am now pregnant with my second!). Its fairly spendy, about $35 a jar, but I really think it works which makes it worth every single penny. Good luck!

Oh I know how that goes. I was 19 when I got pregnant with my oldest, and I was addicted to the stretch mark creme that kinda smelled like coconuts (can't remember now)....I used it religiously 3 times a day....and I still got terrible stretch marks... With my second, I only got 3 (only because I carried low and already had them from my first. With my 3rd I thought for sure I was plenty stretched, but I gave birth 30lbs heavier than I had with either of my first 2 boys....and I carried high......so plenty of marks.

But to answer your question.....I was told if it is in your genes you will get them....My mom got them bad, and so did I no matter how many times I used lotion....good luck to you...

Before spending tons of money on creams, I'd recommend taking care of your skin from the inside. Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat foods rich in vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids. (Avocado, walnuts, flax, etc.) Creams only help the top layer of skin, which is dead anyway!

I too was unable to avoid stretch marks thanks to my grandmother. I have been using some of my Avon products called Anew Clinical Lift and Tuck, and Super Shape (for stretch marks and cellulite) since having my last daughter. They both have been working to soften and fade the stretch marks! You can't prevent them, but you can find products to help them after they take over your belly! LOL Just think of them more as the marks from a wonderful pregnancy that resulted in a beautiful baby :)

Try it!!!

E. FYI: I am the only woman in my family to NOT be attacked my the stretch mark fairy!!!

All I used was Queen Helens Cocoa butter. I put it on every day and I barely have any strech marks. I wouldn't go out of your way and spend money on creams that say that they will work. This stuff is cheep (Like $2.00) for the big lotion or around $3.00 for just the cream. It lasts a long time too.

I was told by my doctor that nothing will prevent stretch marks. I didn't get a single one on my belly with baby #1 but with #2 I got a belly covered with them.

Hi, S.!

I used shae butter with both of my pregnancies and I have no stretch marks to be seen. I swear by it, but it could be just a coincidence. I used the big blue tube from Bath & Body Works (Lay It On Thick or something like that). I (My husband actually) put it on religiously every single night of my pregnancies.

Good Luck!

I am a firm believer of Vitamin E gel or lotion you can find it at any health store. Just make sure it says Vitamin E on it. Vitamin E tightens skin better than any product out there. That was my biggest fear but I can proudly say I didn't get one stretch mark.

The doctors say it is genetic if you get stretch marks so I don't think you can do anything. It might not be a bad idea to used just a moisturizing lotion. sorry if I am repeating someone elses answer.

Does your mother have stretch marks from pregnancy?? If so, you will most likely be blessed the same. I'd use lotion on my belly through my pregnancies just to help with itching, but from what I have heard, if it is in your genetics you will still get them.

I'd have to agree with the last response. I have one child and when I was pregnant I was very worried I would have stretch marks so I researched stretch marks. I found out that it is mainly heriditary. Where the stretching occurs is actually layers and layers underneath the skin we actually put lotion on which is why lotions are not the preventive cure for stretch marks. However there is always the exceptions to the rule. My mother has stretch marks and I lucked out and did not get them. I also decided to use lotions anyway and maybe that saved me. I would recommend Palmers Cocoa Butter Lotion. There is a certain kind just for pregnancy. Good luck.

I used Eucerin cream with my oldest and didn't get any stretch marks... did the same with my youngest and got some... go figure.

It was the Eucerin lotion in the tall white container, with a flip top. Kind of a runny lotion, but it worked for keeping my skin hydrated and not so itchy.

My mom never got stretch marks, and she had four kids. I didn't with my oldest nad did with my 2nd, I think it all depends. Its worth a shot ,but don't put too much money into it.

You CANNOT prevent stretch marks. All the lotions and potions in the world will not help. It is all about heredity and age. Usually the older you are the less likely you are to get them (Because your body is pretty much done growing, but you still make get a few. Ever see someone who grew really fast when they were young and they have stretch marks at the top of their legs? I am 39 and on my third pregnancy w/ ZERO stretch marks. My sister didn't get them either, but that is because of our heredity. The creams and lotions help w/ that belly itch and that's about it.
So anyone who tells you they used something and worked would not have had stretch marks even if they had used nothing. Sorry I don't have better news for you.

I used Palmer's Cocoa Butter for Stretch Marks every single day, twice a day the whole time I was pregnant (even before showing), and it did not work one bit. I think stretch marks are more hereditary and there really is not much you can do about it. My midwife actually said I had some of the worst stretch marks she had seen! I was average weight and only gained 23 lbs during the whole time, so I can't really explain it. Anyway, I would just use a lot of lotion and make sure your skin is soft and in good condition. Good luck!
