I live in Danville and have United Healthcar insurance. I am looking for a great pediatrician...due in 3 weeks...yikes! Any good doctors in the area that you can recommend, or any useful tips on how to go abou finding a great one? I have sked my OB, but I would like some other referrals as well to cover my basis.

What can I do next?

I completely recommend San Ramon John Muir Pediatrics Medical Group/Network - I have known a few of the Drs there for 15+ years and they are amazing. Dr. Saltzstien is the BEST, BEST BEST pediatrician in the world. I went to her as a child, really up until I was probably 20ish because I relly didnt want to see anyone else and now she is the pediatrician for my daughter. She is the kindest, most through Dr. in the world. I really could go on and on, but she simply is just amazing! Being a first time parent can be a little frazzling and she really helps you understand everything and I can get her on the phone if I have any questions instantly. Dr. Fittinghoff is in her office as well and is really, really great as well. I would really recommend any of the pediatricians with John Muir Pediatrics - They are located at Bishop Ranch #11 and also have a 2nd office in Alamo downtown.

I have been so lucky in finding mine. he is in Pleasanton at Valley care. Dr. Lionel Herrera has been great with my son and he is actually 1 years old today. The women in the office are so sweet and helpful and he has been so knowledgable and understanding as I was a new single mom and just took his time explaining everything and dealing with all of my questions and concerns. his office number is ###-###-####. Dr. Sam is also good at their office. There are 4 doctors but I will say hands down Dr. Lionel is the best!

I have a wonderful pediatrician, who came highly recommended and I am so grateful. It is Dr. Suresh Sachdeva in San Ramon across from the market place in the medical center adjacent to Valero and across from the library. ####-###-#### Very cautious, knowledgeable regarding milestones, thorough etc. A bit of an accent to understand at first, but well worth it!!

Good luck!!:) (My name is Christine and I have the same insurance!!) Congrats on the new baby!!

We use Bayside Pediatrics and have been to both the San Ramon and Pleasanton Offices. www.baysidemed.com We love Dr. Weiss-Ishai. We originally signed up with Dr Quan because a bunch of people recommended her. I wasn't overly impressed when we met with her, but then in the hospital Dr. Weiss came to see us because she was on call that day and she just had such a welcoming attitude. She really listens to us. The biggest reason that I like her, is that after she does the exam, she asks for questions and then actually waits and lets you think and ask your questions. I have been rushed out of so many doctors' offices where you don't even get a chance to think of your question until you are in the parking lot, so I really appreciate the chance to discuss any issues I have while still in the office.

Their help line is also great, and they have a lactation on staff at the Pleasanton office so if you have any problems breastfeeding you can meet with her and it is covered by your baby's insurance. (other places it can cost $$$) My daughter had a lot of problems breastfeeding and I think I met with Caroline 5-6 times in the first few weeks. Their help is the reason that I didn't give up and was able to breastfeed my daughter for 10 months.

Good luck! and Congratulations!

Try Dr. Kadas with Alamo Medical Group. He was my pediatrician as a kid and my son saw him once when our regular dr, Dr. Whyte, was out of the office. She's good too but Dr. Kadas is my favorite! He's so reassuring and calming. Congrats on the baby & good luck.

We go to Dr. E. Michelle Lee, with the John Muir Medical Group in San Ramon. They also have an Alamo office that has office hours on Saturday mornings if something comes up on Friday night. Dr. Lee is very thorough and never rushes you. She always asks for questions and concerns and her nurse is great too!

Bay Valley Medical's Mischa Roitshteyn is fantastic! He's very gentle and great with my 2 year old, who has gone to him since she was born. Very knowledgable and thourough, I never feel rushed. I looked on their site and it looks like he only works in their Pleasanton office, are you willing to travel?

We go to Sachdeva also. He is excellent! We've gone to him 5 years and love him. He is the only doctor in the office, so the waiting room is not full. He gets you in quickly when needed. They also have a well-baby waiting area so your newborn is not surrounded by sick kids.

Congratulations! I'm a little ways out of your area, but I can provide a little information on 3 offices in the county. As far as I can tell, it's trial and error in choosing. All 3 offices we have been with came highly recommended, so recommendations don't always ensure good service and healthcare. Be alert and diligent with your child's health, because some Dr's just aren't!

We are currently with Dr. Christina Chua-Lim in Walnut Creek and have been very impressed with her. She has great bedside manner, is attentive, knowledgeable, open to discussion and longer appointment times when needed, and her office staff is friendly and courteous and it's so easy to schedule an appointment. So far, she has provided us with nothing but accurate and detailed information, and our daughter enjoys going to visit her.

Prior to that, we were using Dr. Philip Rush in Pleasant Hill. He was a terrific doctor and we didn't like having to look for a new office. But unfortunately, this office is set up with an advice nurse playing "gatekeeper" and you can only get an appointment (other that a well check) if the advice nurse decides you need one. The staff are friendly for the most part, but seem to routinely (as far as I could tell) overbook well checks and then tell you after you arrive that you are going to have to reschedule. We loved Dr. Rush, but dealing with the rest of the office, particularly the advice nurse, was like pulling teeth and our daughter ended up with about a 3 month delay in diagnosis and treatment (fortunately nothing major/life-threatening) for an issue that ended up requiring minor surgery due to the advice nurse blocking us from an appointment.

The first office we were with, starting when she was born, was Mt. Diablo Pediatrics in Concord. We had a very bad experience with this office. Long story short, mis-diagnosis followed by long-term mistreatment based on outdated information, after the correct diagnosis was made, for our daughter's condition(s). And this with 3 different Dr.s in the same office having seen her at different times. We were given misinformation regarding many of our concerns with our daughter's health, or referrals for age-inappropriate services that our daughter did not even qualify for. And all of the Dr's seem to be a bit heavy handed with prescriptions. They tried to write a prescription for just about everything, even for a few small pimples on my infant! The front desk staff, except for one very sweet lady, and one terrific nurse were usually abrupt to downright rude. The other nurse in the office was nice enough, but seemed kind of out of it all of the time. Also, when we later obtained medical records to change offices, they had hardly written ANYTHING in the medical notes, and some of what they had written was incorrect! Subsequent Dr.s offices (both pediatricians and specialists) have been shocked at the lack of medical notes and incorrect treatment that we received from this office.

(and now I'll sit here and wait for the lawsuit, but everything I said is true!) Hope it helps...
