Any Washer and Dryer Recommedations? Types? Brands?

We bought the LG front loading washer dryer. I really like them. We didn't buy the top of the line (that one has a "steam cleaning" mode), but the set we have works great for general washing and drying, and it is energy efficent. The price was pretty much in line with comprable machines. We had a Maytag Neptune front loader before this - it lasted five years before needing a $500+ repair. After doing research we found an actual website dedicated to people blogging about their issues witht hat machine. My parents have the Whirlpool Duet front loaders, and the like them too. Good luck!

I love my front load washer and dryer. Owned them for year and they are the best. Cleans clothes great and there is a steam fresh cycle for dry cleaning clothes. My husband reserched them for months and wants the best bang for the buck. We got the LG brand from Best Buy. We bought them at the end of the year so they can make room for the new models. The one thing I do like on these vs other older models is once you start the washer you can't open it till the cycle is over so you can add stuff. This one lets you pause the cycle to add clothes. Best buy had the best prices from what my husband shopped for and he shops stuff to death till he finds it the cheapest.

We have the LG front loaders, but this is because it was what my husband REALLY wanted... so we paid a lot for them. However, I would have to agree with many of the others that said to go with Kenmore brands. Kenmore products are long-lasting and affordable.

My repair man says that the GE Whirlpool is the easiest when it comes to repairs.

We bought it couple months ago. It's about $800. we got it in Home Depot. We opened an account so saved us $50. Then there was a discount on the washer so saved another $50. We chose this one because Consumer Report says this is the best choice. I don't know if you are familiar with Consumer Report. It chooses the best ones based on the price and the performance.
We don't have the dryer, cause our dryer is still working.

We love our Whirlpool Duet Sport washer and dryer. We've had them a year and have never had a problem. The bases were a littl more expensive than I would have liked, but I love the extra strorage and the fact that I don't have to bend completely in half to get things in and out.

We have the GE front load washing machine and dryer from Home Depot. (I want to say they were the Profile models) I love them. In total, they were ~$1500 for the set, but our clothes are MUCH cleaner, our laundry quieter, and our water bill 20% less. I know this sounds too good to be true... But seriously, the machines are super quiet, and out of curiosity, I ran a towel through the stain removal cycle that had been used 15 years ago to clean a car and had for all these years been gray with brake dust - the towel came back out white! I also like the fact that they are frontload as we've been able to put a folding table across their top OR we could have stacked them.

LOVE my He3 Kenmore. The He4 has its own water heater which seems a bit much. Mom has the set, neighbor has the set, we all love them and they're very efficient. You might even find incentives from PG&E and your local water district like we did.

We have always had great success with Sears Kenmore. We've only replaced them once since in 29 years of marriage, 4 kids now all in their 20's who often still come home to do laundry. So -- they still have not gotten much of a break. I also recommend the front loader type. It really does use less water and it is very quiet which is nice since our laundry room is on our second floor.

We recently bought a Whirpool Duet Set and love them! They are front loaders and we have them stacked (space restrictions). We purchased them from Sears.

My husband and I purchased front-loading (window front doors) just after our 27 wk preemie came home from her 3 month stay in the NICU. My laundry life went from daily loads to weekly then to a monthly 1 day of laundry. 6 loads of a full washer and I only do incidental loads on rare occasions. Needless to say, I hate doing laundry! For me, a busy working full time mother, this has been the answer to my prayers. You will find that front-loading washers and dryers from Kenmore are well worth researching. I stronly suggest spending the extra $300 on the pedetals, as they will save you on backaches. My laundry detergent bill, water bill and power bill went down, my whites are whiter, and colors are brighter. Good luck in your research.

I recomend a GE. I really like ours- it's energy efficient, which helps with our electric and water bill, and still allows our cloths to clean!
Also, we bought the floor model from the store. It had a tiny dent on the top of the washer and a small scratch on the side of the dryer. Neither a big deal and it saved us a few hundred dollars! Happy shopping!

I bought the Whirlpool Duet with the stands to elevate them . I too am alway doing laundry . With girls 18 14 and 3 all play sports and the 2 olders wear those super thin tee's and tank's , the little one gets dirt and food on everything I wear scrubs everyday and the man of the house has a uniform . I love the high effeciency washer and dryer . With several differet settings I can was huge loads or small loads and it doesn't take long ( 35 min )
On the other hand if I want something sterilized clean
there is asetting for that it takes longer . the dryer
is awesome too . I don't use the steaming properties as
I don't wear many clothes that need ssteaming .
For busy mom's I use the delay wash often extra rinse cycles and time dry . You have to use He laundry soap
but they sell it at Costco now . If there is a laundry soap you absolutley love that is not He just use a 1/2
the amount of detergent . I will the stands were a extra
$100 each BUT for a front loading washer it's great
it minimizing bending over and makes it easy to move clothes from the washer to the dryer . The are not the most expensive unit but they are not the cheapest either
for sure worth the money

G., i am no expert by any means. :-) Just a soon to be 50 year old woman who raised two children (and a husband)and over the years found that my Kenmore products gave me the least trouble. I first became impressed with a Kenmore dryer that my mother-in-law found used.It was put in a house that she had as a rental that family memebers were allowed to rent. My husband and i moved in with our two yound children in June of 87 and lived there 5 years. It was old and used when we got there and got "plenty" of use out of it and was still there when we move dout 5 years later. I only bought Kenmore after that and was always pleased. I have a front loader Maytag, washer/dryer set. I love them. They are quite, save water and look nice. However, on all front loaders, make sure your leave the door open after you are finished doing laundry, probably over night, or wipe down the rubber seal when finished. If you do not do that you will get mold on the rubber seal. That's what happened to me. I've also read about that problem in several magazine article. Some front loaders even develop a smell, like mildew and people say that they cannot get rid of the smell.
Something to think about.

We have had excellent results with GS Hotpoint. I have them in our home for over 20 years with no problems. The are very reasonably priced.

I have Miele's, but we had a friend who gave us an employee discount. My one recommendation would be to get a front loader, but make sure you have a concrete slab over ground (like your garage). If you don't, make sure to get one that is designed for framed floors - that way the shaking doesn't effect your household.

We bought a new washer several months ago. I really wanted a high efficiency front loader, but since our laundrey room is on the second floor we were told that it could cause the house to shake during the spin cycle. We settled on the Kenmore High Efficiency top loader. It has all of the great aspects if the HE front loader, but is quieter. I love that the HE washers will help cut down on water and energy with all the conservation that is taking place no in the east bay. Also...several friends warned me that their front loaders mildew easily and that they have to leave the door open when not in use so that is can air out. The sears oultet is a great place to check out washers. They can be much less expensive and may only have a ding or scratch on a side that will not be visable. They have several locations in the bay area. Good Luck!

I'm an "old fashioned" girl and like Kenmore, Whirlpool or GE. They aren't the new cool front load washer/dryers, but the traditional ones still get the job done and they're pretty reasonably priced, especially at Sears. I just bought a Kenmore washer/dryer for our new house and so far I've been very happy.

I got LG front loaders with pedestals and I love them. We went to Best Buy - which I also reccomend because they can answer your questions and have a good cross section of choices. Don't waste money on colored machines - white always looks great and won't ever look dated.
Be sure to get the capacity you need - bigger will wash more items and even bulky comforters.

We recently purchased an LG Front Loading Washer and I LOVE it! I can wash absolutely anything in...the daintiest of delicates on hand wash cycle, pillows, sleeping bags and even our queen size bedspread!! Things have never been so clean around our house. LOL! I even disassembled and washed all the fabric components of my daughter's stroller and it looks brand new...I had someone offer me $75 for it and the baby carrier/seat!

We chose LG because they have a REALLY good reputation for the quality of their appliances. I have to say that I agree because in the first 24 hours we owned the washer, I probably washed about 20 loads of laundry. LOL! The best features are that it ONLY uses 14 gallons of water vs. the 40+ gallons that our old washer used. Also, it spins SO fast that it takes about half the time to dry clothes and towels. Plus it is SO quiet that you barely know that it's running! The only drawback is that you have to purchse HE (high efficiency) detergent. I have been using Ecos brand from Costco and am VERY pleased with the results. It uses SO little soap that you pay about the same although the HE detergent costs a little more.

We did not buy the matching dryer because only our washer died and we could not afford both at the time. Although I would like to purchase the dryer in the spring. We purchased the washer at Best Buy for $650 which, is about $150 more than a large capacity top load washer, but we have also already noticed a drop in our monthly utility bill and I feel good about not using SO much water per load. Especially since we are still on septic not city sewer. Also, Best Buy will finance for you and they offer you "rewards" for every purchase you make. I just received about $30 in rewards cards from our washer purchase. Now I can buys some birthday or Christmas gifts for next to free! :0)

Sometimes you can buy appliances at reduced prices because they have been cosmetically "injured" during shipping. You should check to see if there is a "scratch and dent" store in your area. Good luck whatever you decide!

I just got a Whirpool Duet Frontloader and I hate it. Sure it uses less water, but my clothes are not as clean as they were when I had my regular top loader. My white are turning gray even though I use the two hour cycle. I wish I would never have bought a front loader. Top loaders are cheaper and work better in my opinion.

Bosch all the way!! I know they are pricier than most, but I have to say, they are the best. Our washer has lots of different options as far as cycles go, including hand wash. It is completely silent during the washing cycle, and only makes a slight noise during the spin cycle. I can have people over and be doing laundry, and no one can tell. My husband and I bought ours at Lowe's under their 12 month financing program right after we bought our first house, and we are by no means wealthy. I have a 17 month old daughter, and I can put her to sleep with the washer and dryer going without it waking her up. Apart from being silent, they clean the clothes beautifully, and are extremely energy efficient which saves us a lot on our energy bill. The washer weighs the load at the beginning of the cycle to see how much water it needs to use. The dryer has a sensor to tell when the clothes are dry so energy isn't wasted. I would highly recommend Bosch.

I had two or three sets of Kenmore washers and dryers. Always had service calls. Then 11 years ago I bought a Maytag washer and dryer. I have not had one service call!!!! I'm sold on Maytag.

I really like my LG front loading machines. They have a large capacity and do a great job. The steam anti wrinkle part works quite well.

As for the under the counter water purifier, we have a culligan system that was here when we moved in. It has a 3 filter system with a small tank for holding the purified water.

I don't have a shower water purifier.

We bought a Kenmore HE2t front loader from Sears about six months ago. There are four in my family and it works out great. Only loud the file spin, lasts about two minutes. I would buy it again!
