I'm intrested in getting started. What do you like and not like? any tips?

edited: opps sorry I hate it when people do that, I guess i assumed this was something most people were a little familiar with.

Ifyou don't want to read the link basically someone "hides" a little notebook and rubberstamp usually along a trail or other notable places around town. They write clues on a website and then other people with their own book and rubberstamp try to follow the clues and find it. then they stamp the books "leaving their marks". and rehide it for the next person.

For those of us who don't know about letterboxing. Here is a web site describing it. http://www.letterboxing.org/

We do "geocaching" which is similar, and you probably are familiar with it. If not, go to geocaching.com.

In this case, there is a small container at the site, which you find using a handheld GPS. The fun is in the hike to find it, but sometimes the cache has small "treasures" in it. The idea is to put something in if you take something, so I have a supply of small cereal box toys, erasers, goodie bag prizes...that sort of thing to take with us. The container will have a log to sign as well.

We have placed two geocaches. It is fun to see who finds it and the comments they leave in the log or online. Only bummer is when some group finds it and empties out the "treasures" without adding something.

Have fun either letterboxing or geocaching! It is a great way to explore parks and find scenic spots!

I haven't done it with my kids, but it's popular with the Girl Scouts in our area and both my girls have done it with their troops and at camp.

Make sure you're prepared for a long walk and the weather. The kids won't have fun if they're cold, thirsty or hungry.

IMO it's a great way to get your gets to enjoy the outdoors.

Have fun!!!!!!!
