Anyone Else Take Tramadol? Any Side Effects?

My primary doctor has me on Tramadol (extended release) for my on going headache (going on 3 weeks). It seems to be helping with my headaches.....taken with 800 mg of Ibuprofen around the clock. I will need to take something for another week and half until I have surgery, but am fearful I am showing signs of side effects.....which I discuss with my doctor on Tuesday.

I have little bumps that somewhat itch on both my elbows, outside of my upper legs, and one knee. They almost resemble bug bites (fleas or chiggers) which they are not. No one else in the family has them. The dog does not have fleas. I suspect they are related to the tramadol.

The side effects for tramadol also mention causing headaches. Ugh.

Have you had any of these side effects taking Tramadol?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow....I didn't know it was habit forming. Yikes. I did go off it one day (2 days ago) to see if I just had my meds under control or if my headaches were really still there. The constant headache is part of the reason the neurosurgeon wanted to go forth with the surgery to remove my tumor on my pit. gland. I had to know. Well, one day later, I had the headache slowly sneak back. The ibuprofen wasn't doing it, and I'd be damned if I let it get to full migraine levels again. I am just now functioning for the first time in almost 3 weeks, and have another week and a half to go before I have my surgery.

The bumps aren't like ezema (sp?) or a rash. They are pimple like and a little itchy. At first I thought it was the fluid from the tumor rupturing that was putting new pressure on my pit gland causing me to have hormones that are causing pimples (also what is causing the headaches). So many unknowns....just trying to do some research while I wait to talk to the doctor on Tuesday. Stupid weekends and holidays! Lol.

my 25yo son had his 1st hip replacement 2 years ago. Periodically thru the past 10 years, he's taken Tramadol. No breakouts, no hives. But he doesn't like how "woozy" it can make him feel if he's tired.

My dr prescribed it to me for back pain (which was caused by my gallbladder). It made me jittery and my heart race. I told my dr and he took me off it immediately. I think the bumps might be unrelated. But you might be having a mild allergic reaction to it. Call your dr. Good luck!

Yes I took Tramadol for a long while for fibromyalgia. I got horrible headaches , the sweats, jittery , anxiety and it made me very tired, I also was really itchy all the time. It took me a full month to wean off it and detox from it. It was the most horrible month I have ever had. You can get addicted to it so be careful.

My sister takes tramadol for back pain. She has never had any skin reactions. She said it curbs her appetite a lot and she's even lost a lot of weight from it. The little bumps could be a skin infection or allergic reaction? I took tramadol once and never had any skin reactions either. I'd have them checked out if they don't go away just to make sure it's nothing serious like MRSA or anything.

I got headaches when I took it. Never got the bumps with it but have from other narcotic painkillers-thats why I had to go to Tramadol in the first place. So the bumps are most likely a side effect as well.

I never became dependent on it although I took a lot of it.

I took Tramadol and Toradol (Sp?) within a couple days of each other, so I'm not sure which one caused which side effects (I had bad reactions to both, but forgot which medicine caused which side effect). One of them caused me to be so nauseous that I couldn't get out of bed for a day and caused me to start hallucinating. The other caused me to have a bumpy rash on my hand, which caused me to have a a panic attack, which caused me to not be able to breathe, which caused a nice trip to the ER, which caused them to give me a sedative.

Yes, I have for a herniated disk. It was given to me because it supposedly had a low addiction potential. Unfortunately, I became dependant on them. I took it 4 times daily for pain and it didn't take long to become pysically dependant. I had to go to outpatient detox and it was the most horrible thing I have ever been through. When I googled it, I couldn't believe the stories I was reading. I'm sure you see that it doesn't make you feel high or anything. Beware!! I will never, ever, judge anyone who is addicted to opiates ~ ever! Good luck since I also suffer from migraines and I don't wish them on anyone.

I'm currently on Tramadol for a bad hip. (We're waiting for test results to find out if I have to have surgery.)

The only side effect I've been having is a bit of drowsiness (mainly when I take my Celebrex with it) and it mellows me out.

Hope you are able to figure out what's going on!

*hugs*

The bumps sound unrelated, like eczema (mine is acting up right now, due to the seasons changing)... The only side effect I had from taking Tramadol (which I took for migraines), was if I didn't have a bona fide migraine and took it, I'd get a wicked headache! Weird, right? Anyway, try taking an oatmeal bath in the mean time and follow up with an oatmeal based lotion (like Aveeno). Feel better!

My Dr gives me Tramadol for occasional back pain. I never had any side effects at all, but then again, it barely touches my pain when it flares (herniated disk pain). I've also had migraines and would put up with itchy bumps over migraines any day, especially if I knew there were an end in sight.
