H.K.
Breast feeding was always the key to getting me back to pre pregnancy weight. My babies always stop breastfeeding at 1 year. But i did loose a few pounds after my boobs shriveled down to being tiny prunes, yuck....i need implants!
and why do you think u did? I have just always wondered why I gained so much after the birth of my children. So I want to blame it on BF and not me. I have another friend that says BF makes her gain weight as well.
Just curious....thank you for your responses.
thanks everyone...well my son is almost 16 mos. so I m just waiting for him to tell me when it is time to wean....can't wait!

Not me, I lost huge amounts of weight while nursing babies. Only to gain it again once they stopped and/or next pregnancy....sigh. We're all so different!
:)
A lot of women hold onto 5 lbs or so. Then when they stop nursing, they lose it. It's probably from the weight of the milk and the bigger boobs for nursing:-)
As for gaining weight while nursing, you have to look at what your carb intake was like. If you ate lots of carbs (breads - even whole wheat bread, chips, sodas, drinks other than water, desserts, etc...), it's likely the cause of the weight gain. You want to keep your protein intake high and your carb low...and eat as many veggies and fruits as you want. And, of course, keep your calories in check for nursing! :-)
Oh, I forgot to include that I've yet to stop nursing without already being pregnant. So, I can't say what will happen. But I do lose a lot of weight while nursing (carb/protein thing and I also eat lots of fruits and veggies).
I lost all mine (and then some) while breastfeeding, but I was also working out and watching my diet. After I weaned I struggled a bit balancing the change in my calorie needs.
My third is six months old and I still have over 5 baby pounds, but I've been running several days a week and am almost back into my smallest pants, so I'm hoping by the time he's a year I'll be in my pre-baby pants (tops will be another matter). I imagine I'll still be ravenous and put on a few pounds at that point once I stop nursing. :)
I lost the last of my baby weight when I stopped breast feeding.
Yeah, same here. When you are breastfeeding, your body retains maternal stores for producing milk. When you stop, you lose that weight. At least I did... and quite a bit. You read all the time that breastfeeding causes you to lose weight, which is just not true. I think that's said only to encourage women to breastfeed. Physiologically, it's just not the way we are designed.
UGH! I weigh more NOW, breastfeeding my 9 month old than I did when I delivered her!!
For me, if I work out too much or don't eat enough, my milk supply drops. So, I have to wait till I wean at a year before I can work on my weight.
Glad it's not just me though!!
I lost the last of my baby weight after I stopped BFing. I was also able to get back to running and working out some, since I had no energy for that while I was BFing. The combination of that and chasing after a toddler who never allowed me to sit and eat, and I was back to my original size in no time!
I lost the majority of my weight after I stopped... but I didn't gain any while I was nursing, either.
yes, but I also quit eating. I wasn't able to breastfeed long and I didn't take care of myself, being fairly angry at my body for not doing what I wanted it to.
I could NOT lose weight while breastfeeding. I was too hungry, and too tired. Once I quit breastfeeding and got my energy back, I lost all the weight easily busting my hump at the gym. This happened for all three of my pregnancies. I had to wait until I was done nursing to lose the weight.
Well the amount lost was really not much.
Maybe 5 pounds.
Lost most of the weight while breastfeeding, btu that last 5 lbs went after I weaned. Seems like the body wants a bit on reserve to draw upon when you are responsible for feeding a little one.
