Anyone Have Experience with Banfield Pet Hospital? Got a Favorite Vet?

We just got a new dog and need to have her spayed. There is a vet within easy walking distance, but his office hours are not as convenient as Banfield, at PetSmart. I was just wondering if anyone has used them, and what you think of them. Are they better, worse, the same as other vets you've used? Cheaper, more expensive, the same? Any info you can offer will really help!

So What Happened?

I did a bunch of research, reading reviews for vets in the OP area, and decided to try Dr. Truman at Metcalf South Animal Hospital. She's not as close as my neighborhood vet (just across the street & the parking lot), but she's not far, and I really like the reviews I've read. Everyone just loves her! I'm calling her now to make an appt. for Daisy. Thanks for your suggestions, everyone!

LOVE our vet, Dr. Lynn Hatfield and she comes to the house. She does have contracts with clinics to do procedures. Her phone is ###-###-####.

AVOID Banfield at all costs! They are probably fine for vacs but, not anything else. I don't recommend them at all. They are "corporate owned" and actually have a BOOK of guidelines they just follow for all cases. And as we know, not all dogs cases are all the same just like people. I have spoken to several Technicians that have worked for them and it's a bad deal. Good luck to you!!

We used the one at Shawnee Mission Parkway, loved the vets there! We did the "Insurance" plan and it saved us a lot of money! It seems like a lot each month, but when its time for shots or even just an office visit it pays for itself very quickly! Plus it makes it easier to swallow the expenses of having a dog when the expenses are spread equally over each month, than one large charge all at once. There hours are way more convenient that a regular vet too!

I don't care for them at all. I made the vet stop in the middle of an exam to leave. My dog hated being on the table, it stresses him out and he will get defensive. Tried to explain that to her asked if we could just do it on the floor, she said no and the if she can't examine him on the table without him getting upset, she would muzzle him. She then called 3 people in to assist her. My dog freaked out. I just left. I have found it's pretty common for all of them to be this way, they have their set policies. Also, the take the dogs to a back room for shots, I don't like that either.

They are typically more expensive.

I went to Tomahawk Vet Clinic off 75th and Lamar and when I explained that my dog hated being on the table, he was very understanding and got on his level to examine him. He truly put a pets needs first.

I've taken my pets to Prairie Village Animal Hospital at 83rd & Mission Road for over 25 years. They're wonderful. No appointments, just walk in.
