Anyone Hear Anything About Playtex Breastpumps?

I've owned playtex and it wasn't really worth it. it would only pump when my breasts were really full. so if i was trying to build a supply it didn't help at all. i finally bought a medela single pump at Baby Depot for like $65 and it was well worth the investment. good luck

With some products, you can spend a little less and not really see any differences, but in the case of breast pumps, that's not true. Medela is the best choice, really, for a pump. Look into the playtex if it's more in your price range, but if you plan to use this pump daily, and several times a day, I"d go with one you know will last. Renting is a great option, because you really don't need to pump very much as the baby gets older. Honestly, once the baby is a little over 6 months, you should be able to get by with a good manual pump, depending on how much you will be working.

The one reason people recommend a medella is because they are reliable, and have been the hospital choice for many years. I would definitely research the playtex one online and research others and see if you can find reviews with other brands and what people who actually used them thought. Most people would not just go out and buy a car without researching all their options and finding the best fit for their family in their budget. I understand concerns about the pricing of Medella, but if you are planning on using one everyday and need a good, pump that will last you for many years it really is the best choice.

I have not tried any Playtex pumps, but, I bought an 'Ameda Purely Yours' pump online and it was just as good as the $300 Medela pumps and I think I paid something like $169 for it. I don't know anywhere local that sells the Ameda pumps, I have only found them online.

I had a playtex pump with my now 4yr old son & had nothing with problems with it. never could get it to fit right & it just plain hurt. I really hope it was a one time incident as I know its normally a good brand but I won't use them ever again. hopefully you have better luck finding a good one though.

I researched pumps prior to having my son who is now 15 months. I was unable to breast feed and thank goodness I waited before making such a large expensive purchase. Target and Babies R Us both have consumer comments on their websites for products individuals have bought. Anything I purchased practically was from the responses from the consumers. It really gives you an idea of the pros and cons. Also, to make it easy at a glance they have star ratings. Hopefully you can log on and be able to make your decision that way.

Doesn't come highly recommended from hospitals, lactation specialists, etc. Good luck... I know it's expensive. I own the Medela and a Isis Pump in Style (handheld).

You may want to check on ebay. My friend picked up a brand new medula pump that came with everything you could possibly need for breast pumps for $80. I was going to do the same thing, but my son didn't leave anything for later and was too hungry to wait!

I don't know anything about the Platex pump but I wanted to ask how long you thought you might be using the pump. If it will just be for a few months it might be better for you to go through a medical supply company and rent one. I rented one with my first child and it was about $40 a month. The pump is the only part that is used. All of the tubing, bottles etc. are new. I thought I would just give you an alternative. Good luck!

You can sanitize ANYTHING, so a better choice is to get the expensive grade pump used from Ebay and sanitize it. You can even buy new parts - tubes and cups and things - if you are worried about it. Madela, Anita, and Avent have the best ratings from what I've read.

I was able to pick up a medela breastpump from a consignment sale for $50 with lots of extra parts. I washed and steam cleaned everything!!!! I only spent $50 and the tag on the pump stated the woman only used it for one child for 3 months. It looked brand new. For my first child I borrowed a medela from a friend and loved it. I went to several consignment sales recently and several medela pumps where there for between $45 and $75 some even came in boxes from the orignal purchase. This is just another option for you.

I used the Playtex Embrace pump and LOVED it! I work full-time outside of the home and used this 2-3 times daily for 7 months. I found it to be very comfortable as it has soft rubbery cups rather than plastic. You can pump into storage containers, into Playtex bottles, or into standard size bottles (not Avent brand). I did eventually lose suction with the pump but had purchased a warranty and had it exchanged at no cost. My coworker has the same pump and used it for a full year and never had a problem with it. I also used the Avent hand pump at times when the larger electric pump wasn't feasible. I LOVED that pump and if I have another child and had the extra money, I would DEFINITELY consider the new Avent electric pump.

You will be better off with a Medela or Ameda. I think we are the only one in the area that sells the Ameda without going on line. The prices are a little cheaper than Medela.

I bought the Playtex pump and was rather disappointed with it. Frankly, I found the Medela hand pump MUCH more useful.

Wow, I'm surprised by the negative feedback on the Playtex! I own the Playtex embrace and have been thrilled with it. I used the Medela hospital-grade in the hospital, and there is a major difference. The cups of all Medela pumps are plastic and conical; the Playtex has a separate soft plastic liner that fits over the hard plastic piece. I pump three times a day when I'm at work and I love it. I get 9-10 oz. in about 10 minutes. I can see that the pump may not work as well for those with large breasts ... I am fairly small (B, or C when engorged). Hope this helps!
