Hi,
I am wanting to start making pureed baby foods for my daughter, I understand its pretty easy as long as you have the right ingredients and and the right equipment. I am looking for a baby food mill and also storage cubes to buy in the Memorial area. Does anyone know of a store? I know you can buy them online, I just wanted to know if anyone knew of someplace local. Whole foods on Wilcrest doesn't carry them. if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks,

What can I do next?

I've never bought any new equipment... a food processor, or even a blender works wonders. As for freezing, I pour the puree into ice cube trays for freezing. I then store the cubes in freezable storage containers. Here's a link to some yummy recipes for baby food.

All you have to buy is a food processor or blender and ice cube trays, all available at WalMart, Target, or fancy kitchen stores. If you want to go one step further, buy a steamer.....I like a stove-top pan w/ steaming tray.

I tried a food mill to make babyfood and found it to be awkward. I had much better luck with a mini-prep food processor and a strainer. As far as storage cubes go, try ice cube trays. Once the food is frozen, just pop them in a freezer bag. Also, I found the book "Super Baby Food" to be very helpful. Hope this helps!

Try to find a Vitamix. It is much more powerful than a food processor...works great and you can even make juice, peanut butter, grind your own wheat, etc. Amazing!
After you freeze your babyfood in the ice cube trays, make sure that you then pop the little cubes out and put them into labeled zip loc freezer bags.
Have fun,
D.

It is great you want to make her food. I did it for my first and soon will be for my second. You really don't need special equipment. I have a normal rice maker/steamer which is great. Or you can just put 2-3 inches of water in a pot and put the veggies/fruit in a metal strainer above the water to steam them. Steamed vegetables and fruits keep their nutrients better than boiled. The second thing you need and probably already have is a food processor. Use the water from the steaming to get the right consistency. Lastly, use ice cube trays to store or freeze the food. Just cover it with foil. No need to buy expensive equipment. I use a great book also - "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron $14 on Amazon.

Hope this is helpful.

Hello. I also made my own puree baby foods for my son for the first year of his life. I used a blender, just a plain on from Wal Mart, and ice cube trays covered with aluminum foil, then freezer bags for the frozen cubes. It was very simple and very inexpensive to do. The nicest part is that you don't need any fancy equipment. Also, a great book with tons of info and recipies is Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron. It is available at Borders. Good Luck!

Call Sandy's Market on I-10/Dairy Ashford area and Moveable Feast on I-10/Echo Lane for a baby food mill. As for the storage containers, you might try Ikea for small glass containers with covers. I don't recommend storing the baby food in plastic or for more than 24hrs.
