Au Pair Information

Does anyone have information about good au pair organizations and the typical "up front" costs of getting an au pair? I recently returned to work and thought I had an excellent situation with my babysitter, but now she just informed me that she cannot watch my kids in about two months because she has to return to work full time because of lagging bills. Isn't our economy great!!! So now I am wondering if an au pair would be the best course of action. I would love some input on the subject.

Thanks!

Hi J.-
I am probably a little late in responding to your post - I just recently joined MamaSource...I am a currently hosting an au pair from Germany and it has been a wonderful experience. I cannot say enough about how much the kids have enjoyed her, the flexibilty it has given to my husband and I, and the cultural exchange that we have all enjoyed! My 3-year old has already learned many words and a few phrases in German. If I can answer any questions at all - I'd be happy to - I can't say enough positive things about this experience!

J.,

I am the local coordinator for CHI Au Pair USA. We offer Au Pairs throughout Pittsburgh. We are very intensive in our screening process. Our Au Pairs have good to excellent English skills. Many have thousands of hours of child care experience.

The upfront costs are $6392. You can pay a bit more to stretch the payments out over six months (the total is $6750). Right now through the end of May you pay only $100 for your application fee. This is a big discount. Even if you are only thinking about it, it is good to get into the system under this discount. The website is www.chiaupairusa.org . My number is ###-###-#### and my email is ____@____.com if you want to talk more.

Your Au Pair can provide up to 45 hours of child care. She (or he) can drive the children to and from activities, make their meals, get them ready for school, do their laundry, and put them to bed. An Au Pair can work up to ten hours a day. They must have a day and a half off each week and one complete weekend off each month. You pay them $157.40 a week. The costs average out to around $300 a week. You must also provide a private bedroom for your Au Pair.

Just to let you know my Au Pair is coming in two weeks and I can not wait. Her name is Camila and she is Brazilian. Please let me know if I can help you in any way. I truly love the Au Pair program. It is a great opportunity to have steady child care while sharing the world with your children. I loved it so much I went to work for the company. I choose CHI because they had the lowest fees and the most experienced Au Pairs. They have been so supportive throughout the process.

PS I went through babysitters too. I was so frustrated with the lack of dependability.
