My son is turning 2 and his party is the first week of Oct. All my friends have these ridiculously elaborate parties for their kids, and I'm feeling some pressure here! One friend did the most amazing construction themed party for her 3 yo and one did cupcake decorating for all the kids to help with. Both partys had personalized toolbelts/aprons, and both seemed like there was so much for the kids to do. My son is really into trucks(and anythings with wheels for that matter) and he also loves the movie "Cars". He's all boy and I need some ideas for activities for his party.
I want to be able to personalize something for each kid, and I want the kids to have fun. I already sent out the invites, and I need some serious help FAST!!!!!

What can I do next?

Fill a sand box with sand and hide toy cars in it. Then have the kids take toy shovels and dig them out.

Hi S. - I have a 2.5 yo son & we did a train party for his 2nd bday. I would recommend doing a google search for bday party ideas - there are a ton out there & you can pick & choose what you like from each one. I also love the magazine Family Fun, so go on their website for party planning ideas. Also, peppersandpollywogs.com has great party ideas. I started on marthastewart.com & got forwarded on to all kinds of ideas. There are easy, cheap, & just as fun ways to do simple things & not spend a fortune. Fact is, he won't remember it, but you'll have the pics to prove it! : )

Also, do you mind sharing w/ me the name/info about the construction party - my son is all about Bob the Builder & we're planning his 3rd bday party around that, so I wanted to steal some ideas if your friend would allow! Thanks in advance! - K.

I am in the same boat, yet mine will be turning 5. I choose to not give into the pressure. I read an awesome article in Cookie Magazine that had some great game ideas (wrap a 'prize' several times and pas it around like hot potato. When the song stops who ever gets it unwraps once... keep playing until someone unwraps for the last time.. revealing the prize.. and wins it. I think you can check online to their webpage and get more ideas.
At walmart (or any craft store) they sell wooden vehicle.. cars, trucks, tractors etc... they are sanded down but notpainted... you can let the kids paint them as an activity.
They are two so activities are going to last less than 15minutes because they get bored so quickly.. including eating and unwrapping the gifts.
SOOOO
1. unwrapping hot potato game 2. paint your own truck 3. eat food & cake 4. unwrap gifts.
Thats actually alot for a group of two year olds.
Good Luck

S.~ I did a Wiggles Party for my 2-yr old and had things to do, but in no way was "elaborate." The kids colored Wiggles prints/copied off internet or coloring book and did some singing and dancing, then it was cake and gifts. You might consider some of the cars ideas listed - or even have the kiddos "make" their own cars from a cardboard box... my 2 & 4 yr old did that - nothing fancy, just drawing wheels on the box and coloring - then cut out the bottom so they can stand in and pull up to waist and plenty of space to run around. My kids kept their "cars" forever.

The other thing I can recommend is a cake - we got our's from Dolce Vita Cakes in Little Elm (www.dolcevitacakes.com) and the owner Lindsay is one of a kind!!!! Check out the website - you can see the 3-D Wiggles Big Red Car she made and countless others - not sure if Lightning McQueen is on there - but you sure could ask, or give her an idea and she'll run with it. I trust her as she has made our birthday cakes for the last three years... I give her the theme and am always amazed.

Good luck, D.

I just had a party for my 2yo last month in the park & we hired this guy from DFW Kids Parties. His name is Aaron & he was absolutely amazing! He used to be an actual Power Ranger & he has 5 kids of his own!

The 1st half of the party he came dressed as one of the Wiggles (he has several different costumes & characters) & he Came running in with a bubble gun, he played fun music, did a little magic show, balloon animals & the kids played with this huge parachute that he brought. Then the last part of the party he went & changed & came back as Sponge Bob. We had kids of all ages from 1 -12yo & it seemed like they all had a really good time, Even the adults had fun, plus he was pretty reasonable, $165/hour (I think). You can check him & several others out at www.dfwkidsparties.com

The lady that owns & runs it, her name is Cindie Perry & she's an absolute sweetheart.

Good luck with your party planning.

Maybe get some ball caps (a.k.a. race hats) and have their names put on the back of each hat or on the bill to one side. that would be cool and they would wear them more than an apron or toolbelt. maybe find some of those old wind up or penny cars...the parents would love to see those. remind us all of our younger years. i have been to some parties that are crazy ellaborate as well...just remember that your son will not remember this party at all. i would decorate everything in red and black...and just "cars" the place out! good luck!

I LOVE your son's names! At two, very short attention span and they won't really get a theme. You didn't say if the party was at your house or not. But see if party city or party america has the Car's themed decorations. We played pin the emblem on batman, at my son's 5th B-day which we got at Party America. So they might have a game like that with cars. I always get my cakes at Kroger's and I'm pretty sure they have two Car's cakes to chose from. Finally, as party favors, buy a bunch of Hot Wheel cars for the kids to play with during the party and let them take them home. Good luck.
