I'm looking to buy a darker color one. However, I don't know if they get too warm during the Summer? I have a black stroller & it does fine but I'm not sure about actual cloth..
I went with a light grey, breathable Baby Bjorn for my spring/summer baby in AZ. I'm glad I did, because even in 100 degrees, she didn't get too hot or sweaty.
I had a black Bjorn carrier and I didn't feel it was too hot. If it felt too warm, then WE were too warm and needed to get out of the sun.
Our baby carrier was in navy blue and it was fine (and we have even hotter weather up here near Sacramento).
I'm in CA too. I'm really glad I got the tan color for the very reason you mention.
I have the Beco Butterfly 2 in 'Paige' the entire body is black and the front is gray with a floral print. I don't have any problems with a difference in warmth in the summer vs. winter.
My husband has the Ergo in black and has no complaints in color as far as temperature either.
(If you have a small waist, the Beco fits smaller than the Ergo...as low as 23")
We have bjorn and ergo baby both in black. The bjorn is more padded than ergo. But I don't think the color has too much of a difference as compared to your CAR carrier, then I'd go lighter. Besides, you dress the baby appropriately for the weather that day, too. I'm in the east bay and summers get hot here. So throw baby in a onesie then Carrier. Keep socks handy. (I always love seeing bare baby feet in summer.)

I have a variety of colored ring slings. I have never noticed a difference because of the color. The difference I have noticed is because of the material it's made of and if it's a padded or unpadded sling. My padded sling is a very light blue but it gets far more hot than my darker unpadded sling.
I really think it depends on how much stuff you have wrapped around the 2 of you. I have used my darkest colored unpadded sling in 100 degree weather and it's been fine. I just dress baby and I very lightly (tank top for me and a onsie for baby) and we're good.
We traveled to Italy when my son was 5 mos. I bought the mesh Bjorn in navy blue. I thought the lighter color would show dirt too well. So glad I did. It was much better than the solid Bjorn I used for my daughter. I think it was too warm for summer. And if your baby is small enough that you can still use it in the fall, just add a warm blanket over it and it will do fine.
