Hi everyone! My good friend is having her 3rd baby in June. She has a daughter (8) and a son (5). She's having another boy. She isn't having a baby shower but I want to get her something. She says that they already have everything. Any suggestions would be very welcomed. Thank you and God Bless

Books are always a great investment for any one with kids. And becasue she is saying that she doesn't need anything this will be something fun and special that will give her time with her kids. You could even get a book for the older kids as well as the newborn.

I am an Usborne Children's Book Consultant and would love to help you pick out book sthat would be great for her and her family. You can email me for suggestions or go take a look at my site at: www.UBAH.com/J2416

Hope you find what you are looking for!

Hi Michelle,

I would like to offer three suggestions:
1. A photography gift certificate. Who doesn't want photos after the new baby arrives?
2. Color-coordinated shirts for the children to wear for a photography sitting.
3. A few home cooked or home delivered meals.

Good luck!

I agree that your own services as a Pampered Chef would probably be very welcome to her especially when the baby first arrives.
Otherwise, you can always gift her a gift certificate to a Bliss Nine baby planner, www.blissnine.com :-). I'm a baby/pregnant mommy concierge and do anything to make the family ready for baby. I have a client now who is welcoming her third child. So your friend can choose anything she needs or wants. Mommasource people get a 20% discount too.

www.iseeme.com sells beautiful & unique personalized hardcover storybooks. If you or anyone decides to order something, you can use my free shipping code fsd12725 which gives you free US standard shipping on your entire order and lets them know I referred you. The code does not expire.

For boys (and girls) they have My Very Own Name where animals that start with the same letter bring each letter one by one to spell out the child's name with a cute story and personal ending. They also have personalized board books which are great for babies & toddlers, however I like the other books because the child will never outgrow it and there is more personalization with the bigger books. They have a matching personalized giant floor puzzle available as well.

Both of my daughter's have My Very Own Fairy Tale (fairies of the same letter bring the child's name and crown her the fairy princess at the end) and we love these books which is why I joined their sales rep program.

Since she says she already has everything. I would get her something different. I am a consultant for a company called Heritage Makers. It is a digital storybooking company. You could get her an account and purchase a storybook credit. Then she could make a digital storybook about the pregnancy for about the new baby. Check out my website at www.BindingFamilyStories.com. You can e-mail me at ____@____.com if you have any questions. The website will list the products but there are always great specials. Right now there is a special for 8X8 storybooks running at 39.95. It is a different type of gift that would be fun and she gets to make it personal with her own story.

Hi Michelle,

I make diaper cakes. Some just have diapers and wipes and others have useful gifts like pacifiers, travel hand sanitizer, bottle brush, books etc. That type of stuff. I do custom orders and work with any budget. Check out my website at www.bearbottomdiapercakes.etsy.com. Nice part is, I am local so you can pick it up... and they are so cute most moms don't want to take them apart.

Offer to babysit for a few hours every week so she can spend one-on-one time with her older kids. It's so inportant to spend personal time with older kids when a baby comes and it's harder to find someone to watch the baby. As far as stuff goes- check out www.onestepahead.com for unique and creative gifts. Also, the store Homegoods often has high quality, neat toys for a lower price. I find a lot of toys there that I usually only see in magazines or expensive boutiques. Good Luck!

Hi Michelle,
I am a gift giver by nature. With the 3rd child it it nice for the mom to be able to get her own choice of diaper brand ect....
So, here is my suggestion. Get the baby a little something, and then get the mom a gift card to a fav store and even offer to go redeem it with her choices. I have 4 kids and I KNOW it is hard to get out just for the smallest of items. If you would like, I have a couple of adorable baby items on my website at http://www.miniinspirationsfarm.com/Baby_Plush.html

We're excecting our third child in June as well :) I have a slightly different situation in that my first 2 are boys and this one is a girl so right there some new girlie things are nice things to have...but even without that. We saved the things we liked from the other 2 but have found that some things are better off replaced and there are some things we just don't have any more.
Diapers, wipes, shampoo, diaper creams, hair brushes, nasal asperators and the like are one thing we found a lack of or increased need for and registered for for our upcoming baby shower. Nursing or bottle feeding supplies are always in need of updating or replacing. Personalized, special things just for the baby are always nice. I always get my friend's babies (and my kids too of course) dream catchers for their rooms for instance. All my children have these cute little beanie babies for the Chinese Year they were born in (Snake, Sheep & Ox). You can always look for something special just for the baby along a personal vein like that. Some new outfits are always nice as well. Even though my first 2 are boys and are just shy of 3 years apart it was nice to have something new for my second now and again, and there were some things from my first that were just too stained and worn out to pass on which was nice to have replaced. If they're born is different seasons you'll run into not having enough of the right weather appropriate clothes. My 2 boys are winter babies and this one is a summer baby so even with hand me downs a good deal isn't going to be wearable, boyish or girlish aside.

You could make a basket with baby items such as diapers, shampoo and wash cloths. Did she save all of her other son's baby clothes from 5 years ago? If not, you could always get a few outfits ranging in different sizes. Does she need a scrap book or photo album? How about any decorations for the room? Another option is to spoil mom and get her a manicure or a pedicure or a prenatal massage. Even better, you could baby sit the kids and give her a night out with the hubby - that's priceless!

Hello Michelle. I just had a baby a few weeks ago and adored gift cards. I thought I had everything I needed, but when he got here, I found little things I had forgot, or just wanted :) Also, I thought that Boppy's were an extreme waste of money, and was using my bed pillow to nurse my baby. When we went places, I had a hard time nursing. I used one of my gift cards for a boppy and have not regretted it. I even use it at home when I am at my desk and need to get my homework done, but the baby is hungry. Also, it might just be me, but I loved the little bath sets, the ones with shampoo, lotion, powder, etc. They are cute and practical. Also, diapers are always great, but in case she has all the newborn and size 1's that she needs, get a bigger size - they will be used!!! Wipes go hand in hand, and one size fits all, and are always needed. One thing that is a good idea, but I don't know how you or she would feel about it, is a sort of gift card for a maid service. Not forever, maybe just one day. I'm sure she would appreciate it (ok, I'm not "sure" but she might!) after the baby is born, like the first week she is home. Good luck to you!!!

All of the ideas are great. However, if you want it to be something for the baby, that gives back later...I am in favor of the US Savings bond. We received several for our later kids and if nothing else, that is one less text book the parents need to buy for college.

Hi Michelle,

Diapers are always needed. If she can't think of anything she needs right now, I'm sure she will eventually. So maybe a Target or Babies R Us gift card. I know it's not too personal, but then she can use it to get things she needs as time goes along. If she isn't going to nurse, she'll need lots of forumla - those gift cards will come in handy for that! Does she have a name picked for the baby yet? If so, then maybe you can get something personalized, like a picture for the nursery or something.

Good luck!

I like to make a gift basket with anything that would go into the diaper like diapers, little lotion, small wipes case, hand sanitizer, bottles if she is bottle feeding, and so on. you could buy her a new outfit or 2 for the baby. Or give her a giftcertificate in case their is something she see or wants after the baby is born. You could also wait until after she has the baby & buy a savings bond for the baby.
Another great thing would be to plan her some meal for a week after she has the baby. You & some other friends could either take her the evening meal for a week each night showing up with it all ready to serve at dinner time or make her casseroles & etc. that all she needs to do is pop it in the oven. Personal gives for the mother are also great like stuff for a bubble bath, & etc.

I would do either a Halo sleep sack (you can find them at Target online or www.halo.com...they also make nice crib sheets that velcro together under the mattress so the baby won't get tangled up in the crib sheets.) or maybe give the mom a card with some money in it to start a savings account. I think I would be more inclined to do the money for the savings account, as people are very concerned about the economy now.

I had my last 2 in the summer months, one in July and the other in August, and they both LIVED in onsies, since it was so hot. That is my suggestion. Or you can get the baby a special blanket with an animal head, have you seen those? They are cute and the baby can have it forever and think of you!

Buy bulk from Costco or Sams Club. Since it may take her a while to come out with 3 blessing. Another great thing is to pamper "mom" a day at the spa, manicure/pedicure and just some old fashion adult conversation. I'm sure whatever the gift...your friend will appreciate it.

I agree with the moms that suggested you make dinner. You could also take it one step further and organize a meal train. We had friends do this for both of our kids. They sent an email out to all of our friends and people signed up to bring us dinner. We got almost a month of dinners each time and it was a life saver - with the first we were obviously overwhelmed and having familiar faces show up with dinner was comforting. So was being able to eat dinner together as a family (even if one of us was holding the baby the whole time). With our second - 5-7 was her fussy time. That combined with our toddler's schedule of dinner at 6, bath at 6:30 and bed by 7 - made it pretty hard to even think about dinner, much less prepare it! Plus it's a good way for everyone to meet the baby without overwhelming the parents - everyone stayed for a few minutes, got a picture with the baby and then we could sit down to a dinner as a family.

Hope this helps - and congratulations to your friend!!

Michelle-
This is similar to some ideas out there regarding Dream dinners or bringing a meal. If you are far away though, I suggest using Omaha Steak Co. We had a friend order dinner for us when we had our 2nd, and I just did the same for my brother and SIL that are far away. Another friend mentioned that most grocery stores do delivery now for a nominal fee, so even just setting up grocery delivery for the first week so that she has the basics and no one has to think about it would be helpful.

Clothes are always good...no matter what kids you had before, it's nice to have some clothes that are new and just for that kid.

There's also a few things that have probably come in the last five years that make things easier or are more fun/engaging for the baby. The Bilbo chair thing is something some friends love. I got a new highchair this go round because no matter how many washings I put my old one through, it still had gone through a lot! I would think new bedding. There's also infant care items that you need...diapers, wipes, infant Tylenol, breastfeeding stuff if that's happening. Bottles are all BPA free now and weren't five years ago, so she'll have to replace all those. I have a travel booster seat that I love and recommend to folks. Heck...even a new diaper genie!

Hope that all helps.

HI Michelle, I'm a new mom and I can tell you that I got everything from friends and family. I can also tell you that I use almost none of it. The only thing that I can't live without is my baby carrier that was suggested to me by a nurse. It's called a Moby they're about $45 but worth their weight in gold. They are different than most of the carriers you find, it's essentially a huge long piece of fabric that you wrap around yourself and put the baby in. It's so comfortable and my son loves it because he's swaddled and close to me at the same time. It keeps my hands free and he always falls asleep when he's in it and will sleep forever. I can't sing it's praises enough.

Good luck.

There have been so many new products developed in the last 5 years. Baby Slings, toys, snack traps, nursing covers. If she plans to nurse I would say a nursing cover would be helpful. Just an idea :) I think hooter hiders are pretty cool and you can find them new but for cheap on ebay.

Diapers! That's what I always could use. You could even make them fancy by making them into a diaper cake. A friend of mine did this and it was really cute.

Michelle,

Diapers are always needed and appreciated, as are wipes. And gift cards. Or the offer of help. Watch the other kids when she goes to the hospital, offer to come over and hold the new baby while she showers or naps.

When my oldest was less than a week old (he was a c-section) one of my friends came over to see the baby and did my dishes before she left. I was very, very grateful. I could barely move.

My favorite thing to "get" someone on subsequent children is to cook for them. A couple of days after the birth, bring over a lasagna. Then tell her you will cook another meal for her next Tuesday (or whatever) and ask her what she'd like. It is a huge help for mommy and really, isn't that what we all need most?!?

The present that my friend got me (and I totally appreciated it) was a night of free babysitting for all three kids. My husband and I had a chance to go out on an actual 'date.'

Buy her a baby carrier wrap fr 30 bucks. I never missed out on these when my friends have baby shower. Somehow they have always loved it.

Consumables. Diapers, diaper service, wipes, etc. Or food. Or gift certificate to eat out because your friend will be shorter on money and time then she was for her first born. Maybe coupon 'offers' for baby sitting.

babysitting would be SUPER! A restaurant gift card and watching the 3 kids for the night would be a SUPER DUPER gift. or pre baby watching the 2 kids for a last parents night out w/ the new infant.
