Baby Girl Name Poll

Hi Mamas,

I'm down to a few of my favorite name choices and would love to hear your favorites out of my choices.
I'm wanting a name that is beautiful, unique and strong so out of my choices, what do you suggest?

1. Abigail (Abby)

2. Brooklynn

3. MaKenzie

4. MaKenley

5. Savannah

I'm considering Grace, Faith and Rose as middle names. Recently I fell in love with the name MaKenzie but then I suggest it to some friends who say, I don't know, I really liked Abby better (which was my first original choice). I still love Abby but it seems that EVERYWHERE we go, we're hearing the name Abby being called out by parents. I don't know if it's a sign for me to name her that or a sign that it's so common and not to use it. I don't want a name that every other child is named the same. : )

Thanks for your help, look forward to reading the responses. P.S. I'm pretty stuck on the name choices we have so don't really need any new suggestions, just opinions on what we have selected. Thanks so much!

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone who responded, I STILL have not decided, LOL but baby will be here in about 5 more weeks so I'll keep you all updated on what we finally decide. I think it's come down to Makenley, Makenzie, Abby or Ava.....yes I know Ava wasn't originally on the list but it's another one I've fallen in love with so we'll just have to see which one fits her best after she's born. thanks again everyone!!

Ok Mamas well the final decision we FINALLY agreed on for her name is....drumroll please...........................ABIGAIL GRACE!! I love it and can't imagine her with any other name now..............thank you all for your help and advice. I appreciate you all!

I'm not a fan of naming kids after cities, states, months, days, fruits, etc.
So Brooklynn and Savannah are out for me.

MaKenzie and Abigail are everywhere so that leaves MaKenley. I have also never heard of this one, I have heard of McKenna.

1. Abigail (Abby) - this one is a big NO for me, only because I know an Abby and she is a wild, crazy, brat.

2. Brooklynn - this is one of those popular names right now, so when she starts school she will more than likely run into a few of these.

3. MaKenzie - this is also one of those 'in' names right now.

4. MaKenley - Yes, my personal favorite. I really like this one, haven't heard it before!

5. Savannah - I like this one too.

My vote is for Kenley Grace.

I find that when a name starts with an 'A' sound people tend to chop of the 'A'. Ex. my neice is Alyssa, but we all call her Lyssa. My cousin is Amanda, but we call her Manda. The 'A' sound becomes forced.

They are all great names - however...they are ALL TRENDY names as well. I am a teacher and there will be at least 2-4 with these names in her grade. She will be known as Abby ? put last names initial here i.e., Abby R. or Brooklyn R. and so on... Like I said, they are great but just wanted to warn you...

If you are looking for something unique and seldom heard, I would suggest you stay way from anything 'Mck/Mak/Mac/Mik', or anything ending in 'lynn/lyn/lee/leigh/ley'. Anything like that is absurdly popular right now and you can't throw a stone i na park or school without hitting a 'mck' kid or a 'lynn/lyn/leigh/lee' kid.

Abigail and Savannah are nice names. Savannah is ok and not as common as Abigail, and she can always go by classic Ann or Anna when older if she chooses a more grown up name for a profession. Same with Abigail, it easily grows with a child.

With names like Makenley, it just sounds made up and sort of like a last name, and it kind of dates a child and makes her 'perpetually 3yrs old'. Imagine her as a 40yr old Lawyer, or a Judge, etc. 'The Honorable Makenley Lastname?', it just sounds like a little kid, not a grown up. SAme with Makenzie. Brooklyn is a bit better, but again its a city name, and while Brooke can grow with a child into a nice adult name..... consider her as a grown up before naming her, consider how she will feel about a name that makes her sound like a 3yr old on paper. It may be sooper keeyooot right now, but in 20yrs, it won't be.

Abigail or Savannah. Or find an older, less common name like Sarah, Charlotte, Caroline, Evangeline, Anna, Audrey, Marina, Molly... these are all nice, real names similar to the names you have chosen that can grow with her.

Savannah Rose is my favorite... I'm not a fan of MaKenzie or MaKenley. I hear MaKenzie a lot and I think she'll get a lot of "how do you spell that?" with MaKenley. And she'll has to spell both of the M names her whole life because it's not the common way to spell it.

Good luck and congrats on your new baby!

I dont like abby in my opinion. now my suggestions are mckenzie grace or mckenzie rose.
brooklyn rose i think I like better and savannah rose. next.

my other half says savannah would be more unique and I think brooklyn would. I see it this way you could buy shirts from savannah or brooklyn that have her name on it. or backpacks or whatever. if you name her brooklyn you could put up pictures of the brooklyn bridge in her room.

My vote wld hv to be, "Savannah Rose" from your choices, both names r heavenly! They also both hv beautiful meanings! Good luck & congrats!!

For some reason I read it that you were naming your baby girl "Poll" and thought, please dear god, no! All I could think of was "Poll Dancer" "Poll Pot" etc etc. Thats what I get for just reading the header and being so literal.

Anywho, I like Abigail... I think you'll find a ton of girls named MaKenzie, MaKenley, and Brooklynn. Savannah and Abigail a bit more classic IMHO.

Makenley Grace has such a beautiful ring to it. It doesn't at all sound made up - and if it does then you have accomplished what you have set out for by choosing a name that is unique and beautiful at the same time. Don't take to heart what strangers think - it's your baby and it's ultimately up to you. Unique and beautiful is the spice of life. Staying the norm is just plain boring. Good luck to you and baby Makenley.

I like Brooklyn with one n and McKinley, if MaKenley or Makenzie it will be spelled wrong all the time (I grew up that way and still hate it!). If Mackenzie I'd include the c and make it all lower case. Savannah and Abby are too popular. Mackenzie is actually pretty popular too. I like Brooklyn grace and McKinley grace!

I like Abigail Grace, its strong and delicate.
Abigail is Hebrew for Fathers Joy.
Grace is for Graceful.
You dont need to shorten it to Abby....Try Gail/Gayle.
Of course one could go nutty over the thousands of beautiful names in the baby books. One thing I know for sure is, you will pick the best name once you have seen your baby. My daughter is Brieanna Rose and suited it perfectly as soon as I saw her beautiful face and dark curly hair.
I wish you luck in your choices and have faith in your intuition.

I personally have never been hip to the "Mc" names since "Mc" means "son of" and well all the girls are now named "son of kinley" "son of kenzie"...it's strange to my ears. Obviously, I'm in the minority on this one though! My choice would be Abigail or Savannah.

Mac
casual, generic term of address for a man, 1928, from Ir. & Gaelic mac, from O.Celt. *makko-s "son;" a common prefix in Scottish and Irish names, hence, used generally from early 19c. for a Celtic Irishman. Cognate root *makwos "son" produced O.Welsh map, Welsh mab, ap "son;" also probably cognate with O.E. mago "son, attendant, servant," O.N. mögr "son," Goth. magus "boy, servant," O.E. mægð "maid" (see maiden).
