as this is a protected website with moderaters, and i got such good advice on my previous baby name chat i decided to revise my request and lay a lot of personal stuff out there in hopes that you wonderful ladies could possible help me even further. Here goes since we already have the girl named picked out (Lillian) all we need is a boys first name (our kids get to pick their own middle names) Our last name is Garrison. Originally i wanted the name Gage, but my husband doesn't like it. We named our daughter Gwendolynn after my mom (but i added an extra n), we can't name a son after his dad because he was a murderer, and his mothers two names are too feminine even to mold into a masculine one. See a name is very important too me, i feel i have lived with one all my life that does not encompass me. I lucked out when i named my daughter, she loves her name, i love her name, it fits her perfectly long and short version of it. I am hoping to have a girl, my husband wants a boy, yet we are not prepared to name one, lol, thank you for your time.

What can I do next?

I understand about wanting to name your children something that means something to you, for whatever reason. My children's names all have meanings for me, one of them (my oldest) is more personal than can really be explained, but my twins are named for well loved family members...I picked out first and middle though i respect and applaud you even on giving your children the choice...

My kids are:

Autumn Breeze Knott
Willow Eve Knott
Jacob W(allace) Knott

The reason my son't middle name is written the way it is:
on his paperwork his middle name is an initial only...I wanted to name him Wallace after my grandfather (a man I adored who died just before my husband and I found each other) but my husband felt that the names together would get our son teased as it being to "poindexterish"...But when we refer to him and talk to him we call him Jacob Wallace and he will grow up knowing what a truly wonderful man contributed to his name..

Had our twins been both boys (as my husband insisted they were going to be until the ultrasound proved otherwise) our daughter Willow would have been Simon Joseph. The Joseph part was after my mother's father. When discussing names and talking about who we were naming the kids after, my mom mentioned her father (who i never got the chance to know - he died when she was just 16) was named Joseph. My mother rarely asks for anything so we decided to incorporate him for her. Unfortunately as Jacob was for my own father...We were not able to accomodate her when Willow turned to be female.

Both my husband's mother and grandmother shared the same first and middle name and both of them went by their middle name. His grandmother (who helped raise him when he was little) died at christmas time while he was serving his first term in Iraq, so we decided to honor both her and his mother with Willow's middle name.

I wanted to name Willow Lucille after my mother, and call her Lucy. I will say, after getting to know the little dickens...Lucy would have been a PERFECT name for her as she would not hesitate to pull the football away from her brother at the last moment (a trick made famous on Charlie Brown by that Lucy)

I don't know if I helped much...but maybe I at least gave you a small smile for the day.. ;-)

Congratulations and good luck...

I like historical figure names. I liked John Kennedy as first and middle names, but my mexican family would not stand for it. Then, I liked Amadeus...Cesar... I also like royal names like Windsor, Charles, Phillip, Henry. Think of a teacher or minister who mentored you or your husband.

Hi A.-

As I was reading your question this name popped into my head. Since it seems that you like names that start with "G", what about Gideon? I never gave the name any thought when I was naming my 2 sons but it just seemed to fit with your last name and a sister named Gwendolynn.

Good Luck,
K.

Is there a father figure that your dh admires or would like to honor? I always like to look at what a name means. For example, maybe laughter is important so you name him Isaac--

I have 4 boys. All their names end in "el". It wasn't on purpose at first. My dh would always pick the name off my list and it ended up being that way. Like you, we couldn't agree on a name either. W/ my ds 3, I was in labor before we decided on his name (in the hospital!). The last one we did choose to follow the pattern. My dd is named after my middle name. She is a 5th generation. Here are their names:

Rosabeth Alice
Daniel Wayne (Wayne is my dh's middle name.)
Samuel Eli
Joel Grayson (My dd wanted a sister and decided that he was going to be called Grace no matter what. Grace is a surname on my mom's side and the name of my grandmother on dad's side. Our girl name has always been Hannah Graceif we ever had another girl.)
Michael James (Michael is the name of my mom's deceased little brother.)

I agree that a name is very important!

Oh our last name is Self so I didn't want to choose Bea or Mai or Dick. My dh actually wanted to use that name and I said "NO!" When I explained, he agreed!!! So, you want it to sound good w/your last name too.

Congratulations! When are you due?

Blessings,
M.

This is just me, but I could never just pick a name. My little girl, Hayley, her name was picked by her father. And it still doesn't seem right. When I looked at my baby, I KNEW her name should have been Emilie---it just seemed to fit her. And, unfortunately, for the first 3-4 months, that's what I called her--Emilie--by accident.
So, even though you're gonna get really great advice from all these wonderful moms, keep them in mind and when your big day comes and you hold her/him in your arms, you'll know....

I thought I was having a boy, but turns out I'm having a girl! The names I had picked out were Jake or Rylan. maybe one of those might sound good to you.
