We are having a baby shower for my sister and are expecting about 65 people. She doesn't know what she is having. What favors are popular that wouldn't break the bank?

What can I do next?

If you don't mind making something you could make chocolate lollie pops. Simply melt the chocolate in the microwave and put into molds (they have cute baby molds, sticks and wrap at Michaels or AC Moore) Then wrap them using pink and blue ribbon. Have fun!

My favorite was a candle (& holder) with a prayer wrapped around & tied with a bow. The prayer paper some something about lighting the candle and saying the prayer for the baby after he/she was born. Simple, but nice!

Here are some I've seen:

- small, magnetic photo frame with a pic of the pre-baby family holding a baby doll (look in dollar stores, craft stores)

- small bags with baby "colored" mints or baby themed chocolates (look in craft supply stores, party stores, local chocolate shops; if you want a recommendation for good chocolate, Sarris Candy in the Pgh area is delicious!!! You can order from their website.)

- trinket boxes with candies in them (look in dollar stores, craft stores)

- small plant pots with plant seeds attached for a "start a new life" theme (look at craft stores, home improvement stores, discount stores)

- certificates saying a donation has been made to an organization that services children such as homeless children, toys for tots, children's hospitals, make a wish, etc

Have fun and congratulations on the new addition to your family!

Hi J.,

One idea, that would require a person to be in charge during the party, is to take digital pictures with the mom to be holding up the gift from that person.

The "photographer"/friend could take the pictures and print them out during the party. You can buy photo magnet sheets at Staples, etc. and simply peel off the backing and attach the picture - a little extra work during the party, but something the party goers will enjoy.

Aren't you tired of cute little favors that just sit around and collect dust or end up in the trash? The magnet is useful and it is a cute memento of the party.

Good luck and have fun!!

My sister found these cute bun in the oven candles, they were a tiny cinnamon bun candle in a cute cardboard oven.

Another idea is to take cleaned out baby food jars and put a candle in them. Then you can wrap a ribben around the top. You could also put candies in there.

Congrats on becoming an aunt. A favor that I love is to make a donation to her favorite charity or a children's charity in lieu of the favor.

we have done boo bunnies out of washclothes, you can by them at walmart, sams in bulk it came out to about 40 cents a piece, for my sister n law we did sugar cookies in the shape of butterflies, cause that was her theme they were about 3 in x 3 in and then we wrapped them in clear wrappers and put pretty bows on them, they were gorgeous and were probably around 30 cents a peice but looked liek we payed alot more.

I am having my Daughter's baby shower in Nov. She to does not want to know what she is having. We are doing the rubber duck theme. I have smaller plastic round and oval blue tubs. I am going to fill them with water and put in rudber ducks for the centerpieces.
I am still not sure about favors. I may do chocolate duck or soap. I however like alot of the favors at favor warehouse.

Maybe this has been done to death, but I like candles. Get votive candles (33 blue and 33 pink) and wrap in white tulle, tie with the opposite (blue/pink) color bow. Cheap, easy and looks cute on the tables!

I've done two separate things that were both well received. For my sister's shower, I bought several little wallet-sized photo frames in different mismatching styles (about $1-2 each). I removed the staged-photo insert and replaced it with each guest's name printed on a different color of paper. Then we used the frames as place settings for a luncheon. Each guest took their frames home and most used them for the photo from the forthcoming baby announcement. We only had about 20 guests, so this was affordable. If you're splitting the cost with others, it could be doable for you, too.

For my sister-in-law's shower I did some flavored tea bags (I used individually wrapped bags of Vanilla Caramel by Bigelow, but you might prefer decaf so Mommy could enjoy, too). I placed each teabag in a homemade wrapper of heavyweight embossed vellum. I tried to make the vellum wrapper sort of like the cardboard of a matchbook and held it shut with a pretty ribbon tied around in a bow. Then I made a tag to attach to the ribbon by printing out a clipart photo of a baby and matting it on scrapbook paper. Under the baby face, I typed:
A Baby Is Brewing!
Jess's Baby Shower
[the date]

This was for a pretty large crowd, so I needed an inexpensive idea. The gift was really my time in making something unique, more than the actual "goodie," I guess. They cost well under $1 apiece. For something so inexpensive, it was really well received. There were also plenty of prizes for the games we played, so I don't think anyone left without something "substantial" to take home with them.

If you are one of the hostesses, something special you could make for the Mommy-to-be would be a diaper cake. If you've never seen one, let me know and I'll send you some pics/directions. Warning: THIS project is NOT cheap, but it's one of the most appreciated shower gifts I've ever given.

Good luck & have a blast!
J.
