Baby Slings/Carriers - Oswego,IL

i hated the Baby Bjorn, but i loved the maya sling.

Baby Bjorn's aren't only h*** o* your back they are really not good for an infant's developing hips.I have a ring sling and a pouch sling that I have been carrying my newborn in since two weeks (she's 4 weeks now). There are multiple holds for both carriers so they can grow with you and the child.

I would highly recommend finding a local baby wearing group (http://www.sakurabloom.com/pages/Find-A-Babywearing-Group... ) they all have libraries of carriers so you can try out all different carriers and get instructions on how to properly wear them.

My sister uses Ergo baby carrier. They have insert for infants. There are many different types of baby carriers. I also heard good things about bjorn baby carrier.

I had an Infantino front carrier (just a different brand of the baby bjorn) and I loved it! I wore my son in it until he was 10 mos old. We didn't even use a stroller except a handful of times during those 1st 10 months.

Baby Bjorns are horribly h*** o* your back, and anyone who has ever tried any other carrier will agree. Personally, I never was comfortable using a small baby in a sling, but I have a ring sling now with my 4 month old so he sits in it facing in or out and I do like that. My all time favorite carrier is the Moby wrap. You have to learn how to wrap it, but once you figure it out it really isn't difficult and it's a super-comfy carrier, especially with a young baby. When baby gets older - past 4 or 5 months, a soft-structured carrier like the Ergo is wonderful. Good luck!

I have to recommend the Ergo Baby Carrier hands-down. It's much more ergonomic than anything else I've tried -- all the weight is on your hips and not your back or shoulders. I could wear my daughter in it for 2-3 hours before getting tired.

You can use it as a front- or hip-carrier beginning now, and as a back-carrier onece your baby is about 6 mos. old. The downside, which some people don't like, is that your baby can't face out. (It's really better for baby's posture and for your back if baby faces you. Also, babies can easily get overstimulated if they spend too much time facing outward.)

We used our Ergo all the time until our daughter was about 2 1/2. I think I would still wear her in it (she's 3 now), but I'm pregnant with number #2 and not sure how it would fit with my belly. It's been great for getting around town, traveling, etc., when we didn't want to have to take the stroller, and also for doing things like carrying groceries and cooking dinner. My husband would even do the vacuuming with our daughter in the Ergo.

I absolutely LOVED our Baby Bjorn. My husband used it a ton with our oldest and I used it a ton with our youngest. After the bad press that's come out about slings causing infant suffocation (and the moms not noticing until it's too late since they just assumed the babies were comfortably sleeping), I decided that I wasn't willing to take that risk and i chose to stick with our Bjorn. In some slings, little faces can get smushed against the side much like the danger from crib bumpers; or even with the baby curled up in the sling, the chin can get pressed to the chest which can restrict breathing abilities. Again, for me, it was a risk I wasn't willing to live with.

Neither one of my kids ended up with any hip issues, nor did we parents end up with back issues that we didn't have before we had kids :) I also didn't rely on the carrier to be the parent. I mostly used it for those times that I needed two hands available (cooking dinner, vacuuming, etc.) or when my arms were killing me from extended baby-holding.

I now watch my 5-week old niece during the day and I plan on using my Bjorn for her, too.

Always had a baby bjorn and loved it....never needed anything different.

I had a Baby Bjorn, and it really hurt my back, especially as the babies got heavier. I was not very adept at getting it on and off and getting baby snuggly in there. It seemed like a 2 person job for me.

I also tried a sling, which I found easier to use, but it definitely takes some getting used to. My husband was always fearful that the baby would fall out, but that wasn't a realistic issue. If you have friends/family who have these products, I recommend seeing if they will let you borrow them briefly so that you can actually physically try them out and see what works best for you.

The bjorn's are not good for parent or baby. I know a lady who is very educated on this and I know would love to answer any questions you may have.
