Since we recently moved, alot of stuff is catching up to us and we are being hit with all kinds of bills from up to 8 years ago, anyway long story short, I was wondering if any of you had any advise about where to get advise about bankruptcy. We have thought about it in the past but we figured after we moved we would be able to catch up on things little by little, but we aren't. HELP!

What can I do next?

Please do everything you can to avoid bankruptcy! I highly advise that you go to this sight http://boards.babycenter.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?folderId=1&...# and let the people there help you! You can post your budget and they will help you figure out ways to cut back on spending and ways to pay off your debt. They have saved my sanity and gotten us on track just this last month and I can't tell you how awesome it feels to know that we are going to be DEBT-FREE in less than 3 years! I also recommend that you go to the library(to save money) and check out Dave Ramsey's book The Total Money Makeover. You will definately understand why you should NOT file bankruptcy! I just finished the book and am so excited to know that WE CAN and WILL do what it takes to make the changes we need to.
If you need/want to talk more you can email me as well. I live in Des Moines too, near Ankeny!

Hey M. G! I feel your pain. Call David Baker at Caldwell and Baker. He is a really hard working person that will take the time to answer question and not try to push on other sales to help himself. I really feel he'd look to benefit you in whatever way he possibly can, even if its only answering questions. Call him at ###-###-####. Good luck!!!!

Recently I looked into Bankruptcy also. I live in Indianola. From what I found it costs around $1200.00 to do a bankruptcy. Also check with the attorney first about your income. The new laws have an income limit for one kind of bankruptcy (the one you don't have to pay back), if your income is over that limit then you have to file the other one where you have to pay back. At least that is my understanding. I called Marks Law Firm. I have a friend that works there and he seemed really nice. If you want to email me personally let me know. I am a legal assistant and can help you find a decent lawyer.

Before considering this I'd like to ask you to go to Consumer Credit...you know Tom Coates company! http://www.consumercredit-dm.com/ A few years ago my husband and I got into major $ troubles. We were considering bankruptcy, but we didn't want that on our records. My hubby went to Consumer Creidt of Des Moines and they helped us get things turned around. It took a few years but in the long run it's been the best thing we've ever done! In November of 2005 we sold our first home and moved into a bigger new home. Two days after we moved we found out we were expecting our first child! At least go and talk to them. It doesn't cost you a penny to talk to them and they will point you in the right direction. I'm proud to say we are now debt free and VERY happy we took those steps with Consumer Credit of Des Moines!

I also need to point out that while growing up my parent's lost the family business and our home in bankruptcy. When we were looking at doing it I felt like my life would always be full of that nasty word! I was very young when it happened, but it was so h*** o* me, my four sisters and harder on our parents. Having to pack up and move out of our home with only three days notice was the worst experience. It's so scary to deal with.
