Hi ladies...

I need a great dishwasher! I have a gazillion kids and am so incredibly tired of my lame Whirlpool washer. It is only 2 years old and I have taken it apart and cleaned every aspect of it 4 times and still the dishes never come clean. I am frustrated and have had enough.,

I am willing to spend a good amount of money...so please tell me what the best dishwasher you have ever owned is?

Thank you,
Mom/Auntie to 7, who is tired of hand washing everything!

On consumer reports it is a Bosch SHE98M0[ ]UC but it is very pricey ($1500) and the top recommended one by them is a Kenmore 1374[2]($720). I have a Kenmore, not this model but I love the one I have. I think the subscription to consumer reports pays for itself with piece of mind.

Mine is a Kenmore (Sears) Ultra Wash II, that is 17 or 18 years old and I have never had a problem with it! And they say dishwashers don't even last that long. I rarely rinse the dishes before I put them in and when company is here and they begin rinsing dishes to put in the dishwasher, I have to stop them because I know they don't need to be rinsed and I can't stand wasting water!
I also cram it full like you just can't believe and my dishes come out clean!

I love my top end Kitchen AId. it is the best. Quiet and gets even the dirtiest dish clean. I never pre-rinse either. Occassionally it will miss something, but that is usually when the hubby loads it.

The only other one I considered to buy was a Bosch, but decided on the kitchen aid.

I agree with BOSCH. We have had ours for a year now ( I wanted a quieter one, since our kitchen overlooks the living room). We LOVE it. It cleans excellent and is so quiet I can't hear it most times when I am in the kitchen! We got ours at Lowes.

I don't have a positive suggestion, but I will say avoid Maytag at all costs! We've replaced pretty much every part at least once in the last three years.

Another vote for Bosch! I have family members who also comment how quiet our dishwasher is when they are visiting. I won't buy anything else. I also like how it sits in its own pan...no concerns about leaks over my hardwork floors.

Another vote for Bosch. We sit right by ours and don't even know it's running. Plus the dishes get squeaky clean. I just got one last fall and will never buy another brand! Love it!

Our new KitchenAid (with stainless steel interior, sensor clean, sani-rinse, integral water heater, and pot scrubber) is great, and was not very expensive. We went to a top of the line appliance store which carried many more expensive brands. Our salesperson owned a similar machine, and raved about it. He has 8 kids, so his dishwasher gets 3 times more use than most. He has had his for 4 years, with no problems.

I am on my 3rd dishwasher in 10 yrs. I've had it just over 2 yrs now.

BEST I'VE HAD..... top of the line Kitchen Aid. LOVE it.

When we built this house, we put in GE Profile....it SUCKS and was gone within 4 yrs.

We replaced it with a top of the line Maytag. Again, I think we bought Maytag when they were going down on quality. My top of the line Maytag fridge went out within 4 yrs too. Only lasted about 4 yrs.

I bought the Kitchen Aid at Best Buy and spent around $1500 +/- a little. It has not had any issue what so ever, dishes are clean.

We have replaced our cooktop with Kitchen Aid and fridge and love it all.

Good luck

If you are really serious about money not being an issue, then buy Miele appliances. My folks had them in their kitchen...and they were the best appliances I have ever used. The dishwasher was as silent as could be. I wish I had the money to have them in my kitchen.

Our dishwasher is a KitchenAid and is now 10 yrs old. It works beautifully. I really think that the thing you have to do is to look for specific things in a dish- washer when you are purchasing. One of the first things we looked at was the fact that it is stainless on the inside. Secondly, make sure there is an arm under the top rack that spins to clean the dishes on top as well as the ones on the bottom. Check your water. Is it hard or soft. What cleaning product do you use? I am still using Cascade and I am aware of the fact that it has phosphates but, if you check on the boxes, usually not any more than most others. If your water is soft however, almost any of the more eco friendly ones work as well. Some things to consider anyway.
Good luck in your search.

Miele for sure. Here are my reasons . . .
1. Get the one with 3 layers. The silverware lays on a tray at the top rather than a basket on the bottom. This is a huge space saver for big things below and it's much easier to load and clean the small stuff. No need for a basket for bottle or sippy parts and other small stuff - just lay it on the silverware tray. There is room for anything and everything in this machine.
2. The heating element is in the side wall rather than the bottom of the dishwasher. No more melting plastics and anything can be placed on the bottom layer.
3. Extremely quiet. You can run it anytime because you won't hear it. I can stand next to it while on the phone. This means I can run it at anytime of the day rather than waiting for bedtime.
4. There is a 'economy' model where you can't customize the front panels. I went with this since I could get it in the basic colors or stainless to match my kitchen. I didn't need a custom cabinet match.

Only drawback is a filter at the bottom of the machine that you need to clean once a month or so. It traps the debris rather than sending it through to your disposal. The more you remove before loading the less it needs to catch.

I've had my machine for over 6 years and have loved it.

I also vote for Bosch or Miele. We own a high end Kitchenaid (replaced our low-end Whirlpool dishwasher), and it SUCKS. It's quiet, but it doesn't clean as well as the Whirlpool did. It also takes FOREVER to complete a cycle.

Bosch is very spendy, but every salesperson I talked to raved about them. They are typically a bit smaller on the interior and cannot fit as many dishes. The interior "set-up" is not what you are traditionally used to...and that's probably what made me lean toward the Kitchenaid, but I would return the Kitchenaid in a minute. I was also told with the Bosch that you would need to remove the dishes after the cycle completed to keep them from spotting (glasses). The Bosch does not use a heated drying option, which I believe is what contributes to their eco-friendly ratings. You can get rebates on the eco-friendly machines. I think for Oregon that Kitchenaid only had one or two eco-friendly models...and Bosch had a TON.

I LOVE my dishwasher drawers by Fisher Paykel (but I think other brands offer a 2 drawer dishwasher) - its is so convenient to be able to wash half a load and then you don't have to unload the first drawer right away - you can start loading the second drawer and run it the next night before you start emptying the first drawer. I love the convenience - especially with little ones and sippy cups...

Bosch.

Aside from cleaning ability.. it is THE quietest machine EVER!!! I can't tell you how many times someone in my house has opened it while it is running b/c you don't know it is on....

oh.. and my mom has Kitchen-Aid and she loves hers. It is a tiny bit noiser than my Bosch (you can actually hear it, lol) but it cleans great and she has had no problems in the last 5 yrs with it. Our Bosch is 4 yrs and still running great and cleaning great too!

Bosch has one that is so quiet, they have a little red light that shines on the floor so you know its on! I love it. When I used to work at an appliance store I was always testing the floor model. :-)

About a year and a half ago, I researched it and got a Bosch. It cleans no matter how much I put in there. It is very quiet. (Course, you can't put something on t op of something and expect it to clean.) It senses anything not clean and keeps washing until it doesn't sense it anymore. I think we got our best price from Lowes and they handled carting away the old one. Not hard to get one of their 10% coupons off. You can use Home Depot's coupons there too and vice versa. If nothing else, you can buy them on Ebay for a few bucks as many get them and can't use them.

Asko or Miele they are the best. They are less that 48 decibles running, no exposed heating element to melt any plastic that might get loose & melt & best for water conservation & cleaning.

BOSCH! I have had mine for 5 years now and it is amazing how clean everything comes even when my husband packs it...lol! As far as a model, what I bought may not even be around anymore, who knows, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of their dishwashers. I usually only run the top drawer every night, but it's great having both drawers when I have company. All stainless steel inside, so it always looks gorgeous. Well, to me anyway. HA! Get a BOSCH!

STAY AWAY FROM JENN AIR!!!! Their other appliances are great, but the dishwasher is AWFUL -it's junk! I had an old whirlpool that was fantastic, but a lot of the new ones do suck.
