Hello,
Wondering what is the best thermometer to buy for my son? I was just using the rectal one but now is is squirming and kicking his legs that its too dangerous more me to use it.......He wont sit still enough for me to use it under the arm.......so what about the one the rolls across his forehead? is it very accurate?

I also have the Exergen one from Walgreens. At first it took me a few tries to learn how to do it so that I get accurate readings, but now that I know....it is a piece of cake. I usually still scan two or three times to compare but it is right on. Read the instructions on how to do it; I know if it gets into the hairline it will register higher than it really is....just tips like that.

I also recommend the exergen one that rolls across the child's (or adult's) forehead. Like others have said, it took a few tries before I was getting accurate results. My daughter's pediatrician is the one who got me "hooked" on this as I can check my kiddos' temperatures without waking them up.

I haven't used the one that rolls across the forehead myself, but my pediatrician used it on my daughter for her 6 month checkup. It's the first time I've seen it. She said she's really liking it.

I don't know about the forehead one.
Doctors don't prefer the ear one (of course, the one I bought) b/c it is too easy to get an inaccurate reading. If I do it 3 times in each ear, I get a different reading.
Also, ear wax may affect the reading.

There are some ones that read in only 7-10 seconds. Find one of those and use it under the arm. You should be able to keep his arm secure for 10 seconds.

Vicks® ComfortFlex™ Digital Thermometer with Fever InSight. Love it. It is also a rectal one, but u can take the temperature from under the arm, and mouth as well. the best thing is that it gives the results digitally in 8 seconds and indicates a red light if the fever is high, orange if it is moderate, and green if it is good. It is about $15 if I remember. These are the features in a summary:

Faster readings; in as fast as eight seconds
ComfortFlex tip makes temperature taking more comfortable.
Professional accuracy
Fever InSight large backlit display changes color to indicate temperature level.
Oral, rectal, or underarm use
Memory feature recalls and displays last temperature taken.
Waterproof for easy, more thorough cleaning
Automatic shutoff to help extend battery life
Probe covers and storage case included
Lifetime warranty under normal use

I use an Exergen temporal thermometer. The pediatrician's office I take my children to uses the same thing. They aren't cheap, but they are so easy to use. You just swipe it across the forehead. I saw one on Walmart.com for $29.88. Babies R Us has the same thing for $49.99.
