Hi! I have a baby girl that will turn 1 in July, and my husband's birthday is the day after hers! I'd like to do some sort of "combo" bday and would like some ideas on how to go about this. I was kind of thinking about doing one half of the cake all "girly" and the other half "guy" like.. Don't know if that would look right, I thought it sounded kinda cute.. ?
Any suggestions or ideas would be great! Just wanted to keep it small at the house. ;o)

What can I do next?

Is there anything they enjoy doing together? For example, my little one likes to follow daddy around and help him with projects around the house so if I was making a cake it would be a tool theme and some of the tools would be mini in size and pink.
You may want to google some ideas.

I think it should be all about your daughter as it's a bigger deal that she's turning one. Your husband should understand this. If anything, I would suggest buying a cake and singing happy birthday to him on his day, but your daughter's birthday should be a celebration about her and only her.

I think it would make sense to do a big cake for your daughter and then get a smaller cake for your husband. I would not mention the husband's birthday to anyone till after you have cut your daughter's cake which I presume would be towards the tail end of the party. That way your daughter can be the center of attention for 90% of the party and your husband can also get his moment of glory.

My husbands birthday is the day after Halloween. We had a big Halloween party for all of the families in the neighborhood one year and towards the end I brought out a birthday cake for my husband,. EVERYBODY was surprised and delighted..

The kids were so excited about getting to sing "Happy Birthday" to one of the dads and it did not take away from the kids celebration. It was just enough for my husband to know he was thought of and loved..

Celebrate your child's bday as the big deal, but include your hubby with a small cake and glasses of champagne..

We did exactly this for our oldest daughter's first birthday (combo party) but we had two cakes. We actually had one big fisherman cake for my husband and then a little cake for our daughter (that was pink) that she tore into - although I love Megan C's idea. When they are 1 year they really don't know what's going on and there weren't all that many kids there anyway. Everyone had a blast and I can promise you at 7 years old now she thinks it's cool to share her birthday with Daddy.

I think that you could just do two small cakes if you think a 1/2 and 1/2 would look odd. You can go with two 1 layer 8" cakes and that way you would not have too much cake or two 2 layer 6" cakes.

I bake cakes and love doing it so I think that two differect cakes may solve your problem.

We have always done "combo" parties for (extended) family birthdays so that cousins, and grandparents could all be together. However, in my immediate family, our closest were 2 weeks apart so we had individual celebrations (dinner, cake, presents, etc.) for one person.

For a one year old, a party is really an excuse for you to get together with your friends or family to celebrate your daughter. If these are all people who would also celebrate your husband's birthday, go ahead and make it a combined party. However you decorate the cake on your daughter's end will be for you, the people there, and for pictures - your daughter is not going to remember one thing about this party. If the party is going to be mainly focused on her, decorate the whole cake that way, and then make an announcement that you have another birthday person in the house, and bring out some other dessert with a candle for your husband. If you are really celebrating both, a combo cake will be cute. You could either keep the 2 halves very separate with baby girl stuff, and manly man stuff, or you could do some kind of father-daughter theme. I would say how you decorate the cake would depend on the guests you plan on inviting and the focus of the party.
