I understand what you are going through, my husband was over there for a year and it was really hard. I am sorry that you have to go through it too :(

Send him with a portable dvd player with movies was a big hit with mine.

Laptop if possible, filled with lots of music
Phone Cards
Pictures.
A pillowcase with your purfume on it.

I sent mine with a scrapbook of pictures of us, and his family so that he could look at it every night. I also sent him with an Ipod with Our songs on it so it reminded him of me.

Anything that will remind him of how much you love him will be great.

Best wishes to you and your husband. Hope he makes it home safetly and you stay stong through this difficult time. It will go fast if you just keep yourself busy and try not to worry about the little stuff. My advice to you during this time is, try not to worry if he doesnt call for a few days, it just means that he is busy and cant make it to a phone. But he will always call, sometimes it just takes awhile. Also dont listen to what others are saying about stuff over there, most of it isnt true anyways. ONLY listen to what your husband is telling you while he is over there, He knows the truth and what is really going on. Surround yourself with good friends and family support and you will be good to go.

Good luck!

Hi D., My husband is retired now, but I sent many care packages, heres a list of things I used to send, yours is for his Birthday so this is very special.
1. Baked brownies and/or cookies (enough to share, I used to make enough for the entire deck department, the guys could not waith for him to get his next package)
2. 2 Birthday cards one bought one homemade
3. I sent a cassett tape in each package with music and me talking to him, in one i sent him a cassett of our first baby's heart beat.
4. I made word searchers with romantic and sexy words, my husband liked word searchers.
5. I wrote him poems, at least one per package
6. I sent him a picture of me in a night gown (My brothers girlfriend took it for me)
Get creative with things that your husband likes, always baked goods, a bit of home always goes along way when they are away from us. feel free to write me persoanlly theres a couple other things i did that he just loved, but I don't want to put that out her. J.

Is there any way that you can have a birthday party for him? Take along a video camera and a picture camera and just throw a big old bash in his honour and have everyone leave video messages for him. Then send all the pictures and footage along to him with some little treats from home that he cant get where he is

My son in law was deployed to Iraq and then Afghanistan so have been through several birthdays with him gone. we sent him boxes full of treat stuff that he can't there. He loved things like craisins, spicy nut mixtures (target is best for that) any cookie treat. something we always did is get the big ziplock bags and put each thing in a separate bag. you never know how long it will be til something actually gets to him as the mail it in truckloads so just because you send it say july first doesn't mean it will be to him by july 7th it may not get there till august 7th so wrap up good and get stuff that has late expirations on it. I sent mike all the ingredients to make a picnic one year. 4th of july paper plates and napkins and paper cups, a big box of graham crackers a big bag of marshmallows and a bunch of chocolate bars so he could make smores. I sent him a tshirt that said peeps in the hood and a box of peeps videos are a hit, books, magazines soft socks oh those mix in things for water a really well wrapped can of mountain dew no just ziplocked but double ziplocked and bubble wrapped lol. god bless your husband for being there are protecting the US
