My twin girls will turn 5 at the end of July. I have no ideas for a theme. For their 1st birthday, we hosted a big backyard splash party. It was a blast and very successful. I want their 5th to be just as fun and memorable. I am not looking to spend a whole lot of money, but want a nice party.

What can I do next?

a princess party would be adorable at this age. You can get princess stuff at the dollar stores and sometimes they have the disney princess stuff in the dollar section at Target. You could ask the girls to come dressed up like princesses. You could make up paper tiara's and play pin the tiara on the princess. There is so much you can get creative with at a princess party. Disney Trivia would be a great game to play and just get out the princess questions.

For my daughter's 4th birthday I asked all the little girls that were invited to bring or wear a pincess dress. We had a princess cake and did a pin the horn on the unicorn game, as well as read a book. Now they have Disney princess DVD's and CD's for parties. I do not know if maybe you could get a copy at the libary or not. I have also seen pinata's that are shaped like a castle.
This year we did a MY Little Pony theme. I bought a Pinata from a party store for $9.99 (that is the cheapest I have ever found them) and bought plates and napkins with a My Little Pony on them. Also I was able to get a stick the "cutie" on the pony My Little Pony game. The girls had fun breaking the pinata (My daughter got two of them on for a gift from one of the girls that did not have strings to pull, so we broke that one and saved the one I bought till next year) I do not know how close to Fenton you live but if you want the name of the store email me.

maybe a slip and slide party? or a bounce a round? you can rent those, and a slip and slide you can buy at walmart, add some shallow kiddie pools and just have them play water games and splash around. luaus are fun too.....all the supplies exist at hobby lobby and factory card outlets, or oriental trading company. good luck!

I just spoke with someone who had an "American Idol" birthday party for their little girl. The dad made a little stage for the girls, and they rented (or maybe borrowed) a Kareoke machine. They provided dress up clothes and lots of costume jewelry for the girls to dress up with. I don't remember what else they said they did, but with a little imagination, you could have a lot of fun inexpensively with that theme.

I would say it depends on if you are doing family as guests or your daughter's friends. Kids are easy to please....especially at 5 when it comes to parties...if you are entertaining adults for a family gathering, I would just do a fun family BBQ, buy some of your items when it falls on sale for memorial day and fourth of july. Get some outdoor fun stuff to entertain the kids....maybe a small pool ifyou don't already have one, bubbles and sidewalk chalk and suff like that. If the party is still going when the suns begins to go down, have plenty of bug spray on hand, and maybe light some outdoor candles and torches and enjoy the summer night with family and friends.

Something cheap and fun for most any age would be to do a "county fair" birthday party in your backyard. You could do face painting (which would be cheap and fairly easy to do...could even use face tattoos) and you could also include old fashioned games or carnival style games. Most of those could be made with stuff you already have or pretty cheaply. You could get some hay bales for extra seating and for decor. If you have a large yard maybe you know someone with a tractor to do a tractor ride. My son is in third grade and his class just did one of these and all the kids loved it! If you like this idea, send me a message and I will offer more with this theme in mind. Hope your girls have a super fun birthday!!!!! :)

For my twin girls 4th Bday we rented 2 ponies ($100 for 2 hrs)
They brought them to our house and we walked all the kids around the yard for that 2 hours. The girls loved it and so did all the guests. The stable here also offers parties at their facility and you just bring in the cake and they take care of everything else. Then you dont have the cleanup either! It was very unique and memorable for everyone.
Hope you have a great party!

What about a Princess party where everyone dresses as a princess? Of course, that assumes it would only be for little girls. My five year twin nieces love princesses - You could even make little princess skirts for those who don't have a costume - tulle is very cheap and you would only have to gather the waist and tie it on. You could make a castle cake using ice cream cones for the towers. I think Betty Crocker on-line might have instructions. Each little girl could have a plastic tiara for a party favor and a bottle of bubbles necklace. Maybe you could play pin the tail on the unicorn or modify other games to the princess theme.

Our neighbor just did a Princess Party! Her girl loves pink, and dress up. So she was a princess for the day! She wore a Tierra and The cake had a castle on it. She received gifts from tea sets, to dress up dresses, to FUN play jewelry, to shoes!

Hope your girls have a Wonderful Birthday! C.

Do they have any ideas? When my oldest turned 3 we had an orange party because that was her favorite color. Every thing was orange, from food to party favors. For age 4 she wanted a bunny party which was fun, and this year she wanted a superhero's party. All her friends came dressed as super heros. For my youngest, we had a blue party for her 3rd birthday. Blue is harder than orange. This year for 4 she wants bunnies too. Her birthday is on the 4th of July, so I think we might just have a little get together before the fireworks at the park. I'll bring cupcakes...bunny cupcakes of course. We usually do sparklers for her pary favors. Is there a pool you could rent out for the morning? A lot of pools will do that before they actually open. We did that for our youngest 2nd's birthday. Its easy. You don't have to clean up after a party either. Morning parties seem to be cheeper too. No one needs much as far as food and drinks.

There's a great website with millions of ideas.
www.birthdaypartyideas.com
I always start looking there around January to June, and my kids birthdays are in June and September. You can do things much easier and cheaper than they usually do, and still have a fabulous party. It's still worth looking at, because you might read something that inspires an idea in you.
I have twin girls as well, but they're only turning 3 this year. God bless you!

Hi S.! I'm a Chef so it's all about food for me. How about a tea party theme where each guest would get to decorate her own cupcake or cookie?? It is messy at that age but alot of fun. Have the cookies or cupcakes ready to decorate, buy some disposable decorating bags at your local craft or cake deco store, have them already filled with colored icing, and there you go. The kids have a real sense of pride about decorating and they get to eat it too!! Let me know if you need an icing recipe.

Last year we did a "fun in the sun" party in the back yard with one of those easy set pools you can get at Walmart. We set up sprinklers too and they had a BLAST. Five year olds love water and it is not expensive to do. Really with 5 year olds they love everything and are so much fun! Enjoy!

A party my daughter attended at that age was a little girl dress up tea party. Each girl came to the party dressed in one of their mothers old party, brides maids, or prom dresses with gloves, jewelery, heels, etc. The mother had gone to the dollar store and purchased tea cups and saucers that the girls took home as party favors with candy in them. They were also used to participate in an old fashion tea party. activities at the party included, styling hair, nail painting, and "minimal make up". As well as story telling during the party with games like telephone. The girls seemed to really enjoy it and it was something different.

We have a couple of free splash parks in Wyandotte County - so you could try that for something fun, not a lot of money, plus its outside so you don't have to clean your house!

I know that other communities have splash parks but I don't know what the fees are.

My grand daughter Micah's 5th B-party we ask all children invited to come dressed in costume as their favorite cartoon characters. It was colorful exciting and loads of fun. We did face painting and had the kind of balloons that you twist to make animals or funny head wear. Low cost great fun.

Have Blessed Day,
D.
