I've heard that there are great books out there on potty training. Can anyone recommend their favorites and tell me how well they worked? This is my first time going through this so I'm looking for as much reading material as possible. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Joshua's Potty is a pretty cute one. The video is called Once Upon a Potty. That might be the book's name, too. Anyway, the video does show where pee pee and poo poo come out of, but it is all cartoon style. There is a girl's video and a boy's.
17 months is young to start potty training. A book or two won't hurt, but I think I pushed too much, too early with my oldest. I started around 17 months because I was due to have his little brother when he was 20 months. I had heard of kids being trained at 18 months and thought that sounded great. Well, he didn't think that sounded great. Now he is 3.5 and he would still prefer to poop in a diaper. He only wears diapers for sleeping in, but there have been days that he holds it all day until he gets his diaper on. Anyway, I have given you too much info. All you wanted was a name of a book. Good luck with potty time.

Wow!That is really young to potty train.Make sure he is ready because if he is not it will just be a headache for both of you.My daughter started going on the potty at 17 months,it became a bath time routine. She was trained early but she did it on her own.My Son turned two in July and is not ready.I have had more than one pediatrician say boys aren't training til closer to three or four.I said oh,NO WAY!My oldest son was two.Anyway if you think he is ready there are lots of books out there with thier favorite characters.I know Elmo has one,it's really cute.Caillou has one that's really cute.I got one at the library called Lift the Lid,use the Potty! My oldest son loved the Bear in the Big Blue house video.I can't remember some of the other names.Go to the library or book store and look up potty training books.Good Luck!

I used "Potty Training in Less Than a Day". While it wasn't quite this quick, it was done in a weekend! I was very impressed. I think more than anything it just helped me have a plan rather than "winging it." Good luck!

Something that really helped us was Elmo's Potty Time DVD. My daughter watched it night and day for 3 days straight and was completly potty trained by the end of the 3rd day. However, she was also 2 1/2 so she may have just been ready. Good Luck!
