Bridal Showers: I Know What They Are For, But....

I know Bridal Showers are just that: Shower the bride-to-be with gifts. It's a great time to put where the couple is registered, etc. But I just received a bridal shower invite that says, Come Celebrate, yada yada yada and "Bring a gift that will make the bride to be a Diva."

Now people just come right out on the invite and "tell people" to bring a gift to showers?

Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed or is this really tacky to tell people to bring a gift.

What can I do next?

Sounds like a bridal shower and not a wedding shower, there is a huge difference. That is the point they were trying to make. A bridal shower is for nighties and undies, sex themed stuff, lotions, intimate gifts. A wedding shower is for the home, the couple, stuff you'd show grandma in front of her kids. They are trying to tell you it's a BRIDAL shower. Fun sex themed gifts are for this venue.

I was born late in my mom's life so she was really old school! She would never have wanted me to suggest on an invite to bring a gift or what to bring. It's pretty much implied in the shower. I think showers are awesome. I have had them and I have thrown them for others. I think telling where the bride is registered is cool, telling what "kind" of gift to bring is beyond tacky.

BTW, it's my job to buy her housewares, it's her future husband's job to make her feel like a diva.

Oh...yay. You get to go to a "theme" shower.

Just wondering....are these the same people that drive most other mothers crazy by planning the "wear your p.j.'s to school" or "crazy hair" or "dress like a rockstar" days once their kids are in school?

I'm going to come right out and say it: I HATE THEMES! (That includes birthday party themes, shower themes, wedding themes and, in some cases, THEME SONGS! LOL)

ETA: I would SO buy a toilet bowl brush for this. You can tie little sparkly streamers on it so it looks like a magic wand!

UMMMM tacky! It's sort of implied that you bring a gift but to actually TELL people to bring a certain gift is insane... it's one thing to include a registry so that it helps friends give something that is NEEDED but to bring a gift so someone can be a diva? Really? That's the craziest thing I've heard!

Amen One and Done..

The Theme of your wedding? Is Wedding.. This is a romantic, serious event. With a fun tasteful Party for grown ups..
Not a circus or a Las Vegas Floor show..

The Theme of your Wedding shower? Things for the Couples new home.

Diva Theme sounds like the theme of your Birthday..

I do special events and I can and have put on all sorts of theme events, but I do remind couples.. This is your only (hopefully) Wedding, so you do not want to regret it in 10, 20, 30+ years.

You can hold a costume party or Theme party at any time.. but not for such an important event in your life.

Sounds more like a personal shower theme where you get the lingerie and personal effects.....I know ...I know...it borders on tacky when people tell you what to do....if it is a good friend roll with the punches and have fun...!

I agree that I think they are wanting to let guests know that it is more of a lingerie shower. Whenever I have thrown them I always called them lingerie showers however and just noted the brides sizes on the bottom of the invite. I think that since this is not a shower where you can just slip in a registry card, it is ok. The hostess just wants to let you know what kind of gift to bring, just like if she let you know where the bride was registered. Perhaps she could have worded it better, like 'let's transform our bride into a Diva for her wedding night...' or something like that. I think the wording 'bring a gift' was poor form but also people invited to a party like this are usually friends so I would let it go and head to Frederick's of Hollywood myself ;) Have fun :D

I'm surprised by some answers...doesn't everyone know that you DO bring a gift to a shower? I would never think of NOT bringing one. What I find really tacky is someone telling me WHAT to bring. I don't like being told how to spend my money.

Sounds like something you'd see on a personal shower invitation and not a bridal shower invitation! Maybe the hosts are trying to combine the two showers? Bring the normal bridal shower gift and also something more for a diva? Not really sure but I agree it's tacky. I've been married for over ten years and just recently threw a bridal shower and bachelorette party / personal shower for my sister and I was very surprised with how things have changed! I was actually told to put her sizes on the bachelorette party / personal shower invitations and I felt that was very tacky and basically telling them to bring her a gift - but I was told 'that's what you do now!' many, many times over the year engagement when I'd express my opinions!
