C-section and Tubes Tied at the Same Time

I have had 4 c-sections. If there is no reason to have a c-section they will most likely not do one and why would you want one? I didn't have a choice with mine...I had an emergency with my first and my other 3 were repeats due to having an emergency the first time around. They are extremely painful and having tubes tied on top of that (that is what I had done this last time) can cause more pain which is what it did to me. This time around took me a lot longer to heal. Like the others said suggest your husband to have it done (vasectomy) or go back after you have the baby.

If you don't have to have a c-section, then don't have one. Even after you heal up, you can have painful scarring issues for years. Get your tubes tied later, or how about suggesting Hubby get snipped? It's a lot easier for him than it is for you.

I would seriously think twice before going that route. An elective/unneeded cesarean is huge abdominal surgery to recover from when you have a new little one, and a tubal ligation can easily be done later via laparoscopic surgery - an easy surgery with a few tiny incisions made, rather than major surgery that often has yucky side-effects and a long recovery time. I know it sounds convenient, but the alternative is a much easier procedure and quicker recovery. Blessings with your new little one!

If I were you I would deliver naturally as your body intends. Mention to your doctor that if you happen to deliver via C-section that you would like a tubal before they suture you. But if you deliver v**inal have the tubal pre-scheduled so you can have it done before you go home. It's done through your navel. It would be less invasive and much easier to heal from that than a planned c-section.

I would not ask for a C section. Go back later for the tubal, if I remember right it is only two tiny incisions, possibly see if your doctor will do it during your hospital stay. Another option is to talk to hubby and see if he's willing....less invasive for him, shorter recovery, and you have had five babies. That's the route we took ten days after number five.

I had one nightmare experience with a c-section. I will not go into details because I do not want to scare you but I will say if you can avoid it do. There are outpatient surgeries to have your tubes tied now. You can have that done soon after your baby is born as far as I know. I would go with that. It is more nonevasive so you do not have a huge scar and it is much safer. My second c-section was not a nightmare but you don't just have the labor pains, you have bad pains for weeks afterward and the healing is much slower. Ask about other tube tying options before you think about a c-section for sure.

I'm always for going with the flow with childbirth. Personally, I wouldn't have a C-section unless it was medically necessary (then I'd be fine with it.) My doctor had me wait a few months after having my daughter (v**inally) before he did my tubal ligation. It wasn't that painful of a surgery if that's the route you choose to go. I will tell you that since having my tubal, my periods became much heavier and my hormones have always seemed a little out of whack. If I could go back in time, I would never have had it done. My husband and I have even considered a reversal. Then again, we only have two children. :) Good luck with your decision and congrats on #5!

Not sure your insurance will cover an "elective " c-section. Having had my children by medically necessary ones , I am not so sure I would "elect" to do it .Good luck!

With my 2nd I had an emergency c-section and my tubes tied. No big deal.
But, I'm not sure if you request a c-section you'll get it, I think it has to be medical necc. Ask your doctor to be sure and make sure you sign all the papers way ahead of time. If they don't have the paperwork all file they will not do the tubal ligation (? spelling).

You'd better check with your insurance company before you ask for that. If it's not medically necessary, it could cost you thousands of dollars. And the "tube tied" thing could be done with only a few little holes, rather than cutting you open.

Never be afraid to ask, the worse he can say is No. But if you tell him what you're considering, he might be more apt to agree with you.

I had to have a c-section for my second child, as she was breech. And I also knew we were done, so I requested getting the tubal ligation at the same time. Worked out perfectly. Seems to me I was told if I had had a regular v** birth, I would have had to wait the full six weeks, and then had the tubal done in a separate procedure.

I had a c-section with my first because she was breech, and a v-bac with my second. So, having had given birth both ways, why would anyone choose to have a c-section if it is not medically necessary? It is major surgery on top of a newborn and other kids. No fun! You aren't allowed to use stairs, lift anything heavier than the baby (laundry,groceries,etc)for quite a while,plus being on pain medication which makes you worried about the baby's breastmilk and being drowsy. For me it was painful just getting out of bed not to mention getting the baby out of the bassinette. I'm thankful I didn't have other kids besides a newborn to take care of when I had my c-section!The healing time is so much quicker with a v**inal birth. As others have mentioned, if you decide to have your tubes tied, consult your doctor and have it done later. Congrats on #5!

It worked well for me, I (husband and I) decided to have a tubal with c-section at twins birth, 3 babies in 2 years was good! I had my son then twin daughters the following year - both times c-sections, but, that's because my son was very large (ended up being 10 lbs 14 oz and the twins over 8 pounds each) so the size and positioning were the determining factors. Not sure how doctors make the call these days, if they can do the procedure just by request; however I did have a tubal when the twins were born. I managed just fine (well as well as one can with 3 little ones) after the c-sections, chasing after a 1 year and newborn twins! So heck yeah, if doctor will do it, go for it.

Just curious as to why the C-section? If it is because you think that the tubiligation will leave a big scar, then do not have the C-section. I have had my tubes tied, (into a nice little bow ;) but they go in through the tiniest of incisions in your belly button and if that does not work, they make another tiny incision around the bikini line. I can hardly notice it.

If you are able to delivery v**inally, do it! With my first child I delivered v**inally and with my second child I had to have an emergency c-section and recovery time is so much worse. You can get your tubes tied without major surgery.

I have a friend that just had a c-section after having 3 normal deliveries. She just wanted to get over it and since she had diabetes through her pregnancy she decided for a c-section. I myself had 3 c-sections and on my last one i had my tubes tied. I don't think the Dr. will oppose to it since you'll already have the incision its easier and your recoup will be the same. I would discuss your options with your doctor. If you have had successful v**inal births in the past you might want to go with that again. Recovery from a c-section can be extremely painful especially if you are running around after four other kids. Also it is recommended that you not lift anything for at least six weeks after the birth. This is MAJOR abdominal surgery and not to be taken lightly. I would think your doctor would not recommend it unless it was medically necessary and I wouldn't think getting your tubes tied would be along those lines. See what your doctor thinks he/she might have other options.
I myself have had a c-section and it's not something I would like to do again anytime soon. Good luck hope everything works out.

I had a planned c-section with my 2nd (1st was emergency c-sect) and had my tubes tied at the same time...had great experiences with both c-sections and if your doc will allow, I would go that route!

I would not ask for one, having gone through it. But, I only have one child so I don't know what regular delivery is like. I can tell you I had a very tough time recovering from the c section. And, if you have other kids to take care of, it will be even harder. Good luck with your decision.

Yes - you're a little nuts. There are many variables with a C-section and you never know how long your recovery will be. It took me 6 months to be out of pain. Some women recover quickly and some don't. You put yourself at a higher risk of blood clotting and complications because of the spinal block anesthesia and the fact that it is major surgery. You will have 5 children to take care of afterward = no time for a Cesarean recovery.

Tubal Ligation is now done as an out-patient procedure by many physicians. Find a doc that will do it microscopically and in his/her office 2-3 months after you give birth - you'll have much less pain and be back to life as normal very quickly.

Congratulations!!! There are risks to C-sections for you and for the baby. It's not worth doing if you don't need to. It's major surgery. Tubal ligations are minor surgery AND, vasectomies can be done in a doctors office with local anesthesia. it's not worth having major surgery just for a tubal.... I had a tubal 8 months after my C-section... not at the same time. (But then I reversed it 3 years later and I'm pregnant with #5.) Good luck to you and baby!
