Cake for Party

My son is turning 5 and is having a Texas Rangers Baseball party. He wants a cake in the shape of a jersey w/ Ian Kinsler's name and #5 on it. Found a bakery, but they charge $60 for the cake.....too much for us! Any suggestions? We live in Murphy and I don't want to drive more than 6 or 7 miles....

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
I have a friend that does amazing cakes. I think a b/day is around 30-40 dollars. She is excellent. And will often drop it off. You should send her an e-mail.
Her name is Kristen and her husband is Jared. They work together.

Have you tried Wal-Mart? They actually do a really good job on cakes. I have had them do about 4 cakes for my son's birthdays and they are able to do specialty orders. I think I only pay about $25 for ours. Good luck!

just a suggestion - you can take a picture of whomever - we did ours at Brookshires grocery store and they can put this image on front of the whole cake for you. It was only about 10.00 more than the regualr cake price I think. It is out of sugar or something and is on top of the icing - you cut and eat it.
pretty neat..

have you seen all the Texas Ranger stuff at Party city. That stuff is great.

Ok Kroger does the best cakes. I've used 2 different locations for all my cake needs. They come out looking great. They should be able to take a 1/2 sheet cake and cut out the shape of a jersey. Not very difficult shape so that should be easy to do. Give them a drawing or picture of what you want. They should be able to do it. I'm in McKinney and would suggest going to the at Eldorado and Lake Forest, but that would be a drive for you.

Go Rangers---

I had them do a dog bone shape one time for my dogs first birthday of course this was pre kids stage and she was our baby-but the cake turned out great.

J.,

Cakes are very easy to make...just make you a large rectangle cake and then cut it in the shape of jersey...you may even be able to buy a cake pan in that shape already. Then you just have to ice it and write on it...the whole cake might run you about $10...

I don't every buy birthday cakes...I just make my own. I have made a princess cake, hello kitty, and this year tinkerbell.

Good luck.

If you are a Sam's Club member, they make great cakes-- and if you take an item or picture in of what you're wanting they will do that on the cake for you! (AND the cakes are SUPER CHEAP-- I think an entire sheet cake-- HUGE is like $28-30)!!

Also, check at party city or hobby lobby or michael's for the cake pans that are jersey (t-shirt) shaped.

Have you tried Annie's Bakery in the same shopping center at Albertson's in Murphy? I've had cake from there and it's great! I actually just ordered my little boy's first birthday cake from there too.

I second Kroger's at Eldorado and Lake Forest in Mckinney. They recently did two cakes for me (a Hawaiian Luau theme and a Cowboy theme) that they freehanded and they turned out awesome and so cute and they were really good too.

Hi J. - You may try the Albertson's in Murphy (if you haven't already). They made some really cute baseball cupcakes for my son's birthday about a month ago. I gave them a vague description of what I was wanting and they far exceeded my expectations. They seem to be good at creating things from scratch there. I'm not sure of the guy's name that helped me but he was an older gentleman - very helpful. It may depend on who is there when you go but maybe they can help. Good luck!
