Patience. Is the key. I have a 2 year old that was so easy. But my middle child was harder(Girl). Get something they like make it fun. We had a jar full of skittles. It worked. With my son. We bought him a hot wheels every three days. (they are .89 ea) . We just charted it. Good luck. It will come. Get him with friends that are and make a big deal about how they go potty in the potty and not in their pants. Remember , he will not go to school in daipers. It will work. Take it easy.

Have you tried rewards for going in the potty? With my daughter who is also three we had a very hard time and then we just started putting training pants on her, not pull ups but thick cloth training pants. We also started a potty chart and everytime she used the potty she got a sticker to put on her chart and when she filled up a row of 8 stickers we go to the store and buy a toy (usually just something for a dollar or less). If she poops in the potty she gets two stickers. I also found a great potty seat at babies r us that actually hooks on to your toliet where the hinges are on the seat and they are able to just pull it down and go by themselves. Then you just lift it for the big people in the house. It also has a guard for boys built in. We just leave a stool in our bathroom so that she can get up there all by herself and go. Also give lots of praise for going she loves when we tell her what a big girl she is! We are still not completely trained and we have been at it for almost two months now so be patient. I hope this helps you out.

How about buying some cheerios or fruit loops and teaching him how to shoot them. They dissolve, so they are safe for your septic system! Make it a game because most children love to play games!

I too have a 3 year old boy (turned 3 in June) and he could care less about using the potty. His doctor said to give him time and he'll do it on his own. He said to tell him that there is the potty and big boys use the potty. When you are ready to go you just let me know. Well, that still hasn't worked. I've tried pull-ups and he thinks they are his bathing suit (because of lil swimmers)and I've tried underwear but still nothing. So we will just keep fighting the battle. I'm glad I'm not alone of this either!!! GOOD LUCK!!

I'm so glad to know I am not alone!! My son will be 3 1/2 soon and he still refuses to use the potty. I have tried everything and we have even come up with a few new tricks but nothing has worked. I will wait until he decides he is ready.

Just take away the pull-ups!! I just got my 2-year old son potty trained, and I was using pull-ups and he just would not go in the potty. Finally I decided I was done, and I told him that he was finished with pull-ups. He got to pick out some big boy underwear, and that was pretty much the end of it. He had a few accidents, but he was potty trained by the end of the weekend. I work full time, so I didn't have a lot of time to work with him, and he wasn't doing well at day care either. But one weekend of taking the stupid pull-ups away and he had it. I'm so mad I didn't do it earlier:). Good Luck!

I agree with the other member about rewarding them. I had successfully potty trained my first two children without much trouble and then came number three. He was definitely a challenge and I thought he wasn't ever going to be potty trained. He was 3 also. The rewards system went really well for us and not only did he potty train very quickly once we started that he never had accidents or wet the bed. I think that was because he was older when he finally went off of diapers. We actually bought several small toys up front like hot wheels and stickers - like she said, under $1 and put them in a basket so he could see them and choose, it seemed to give him more incentive since they were right there to be had. He would actually start to go more often on his own because he was anxious to get his new "prize". But it got him in the habit of going. A friend said that was a waste of money but I know that not having to buy diapers would save me all that and more! The only other thing I would suggest if you haven't done it already is go pick out some fun new "big boy" underwear and tell him he cannot wear them until he goes on the potty all the time. You may want to just take a break and let it go for a week and start fresh. It seemed with my son at times, the harder I pushed the more he resisted.

Good luck and know that he will use the potty all by himself sooner or later!
