We are new to the area hospitals and we are trying to decide between Little Company of Mary and Torrance Memorial, does anyone have pros and/or cons about each?

I had my first son at Torrance Memorial and my second at Little Company, both c-sections. I definitely prefer Little Company. The staff was so much nicer, and every mother gets her own room. My father is a doctor in the South Bay, and he feels they are both equally good hospitals.

We live in south bay, so most of my friends delivered at either hospital. The bottom line is this -- if you have a smooth labor, nothing goes wrong, you will be happy with either one. But if you want the assurance that in case something goes wrong and you would be in the most equipped, most efficient hospital, then I would choose Torrance. The nurses at LCOM are nice and the rooms are probably more pampering, so I have no doubt that many people have had good experiences there. But it comes down to what your priorities are... For me, I would never choose LCOM for deliverying my baby, because I want the assurance. But everyone is different. Good luck!!

I had both of mine at Torrance and it was fantastic. I have heard problems about problems at Little Company, mostly with nurses. Good luck with the next baby!

I delivered at Torrance and it was great. They also have a NICU so if something goes wrong they are better equipped to handle it.

I delivered twice at Little Company and had two amazing experiences there. My sister delivered her boy at Torrance (2003) & had a horrible experience. With the exception of one amazing nurse, she found the staff there not very nice or helpful. I could go into the whole story but it makes me sad that she had such an awful birth experience. That being said, I had another friend who just delivered her son there last month and had a great experience so maybe it was just bad luck for my sis. Congrats and good luck to you!

My OBGYN had privileges at both hospitals, but suggested I deliver at Torrance. I had two c-sections (both emergency) there and had wonderful experiences. The difference is the nurses in my opinion (and my doctor's opinion). On my second pregnancy I was a regular at the hospital with pre-term labor and really like the treatment I received.

Torrance Memorial is better equipped than LCM. I'm sure your doctor will tell you the same.

I gave birth to my son at Torrance Memorial and I LOVE that hospital! The staff were very friendly, courteous, professional and attentive. One big difference between Little Company of Mary and Torrance Memorial is that Torrance Memorial has a DEDICATED anesthesiologist 24/7 that ONLY works on Labor & Delivery floor. That was the BIG decider for me since at Little company, the anesthesiologist floats, so if you're in labor and you really need an epidural at Little Company but there's another emergency on a different floor...you have to wait for your epidural because they only have one anesthesiologist.
Now this information has not been verified but my OB/GYN told me and I figured he's a doctor at both hospitals so he should know... Anyways, you should probably check out both hospitals, they usually have free hospital tours so you can get a feel of the place and then make your decision after that. Oh, I almost forgot, the other big decider for me for choosing Torrance Memorial was that they only have Private rooms for Labor & Delivery, this was very important to me since I did not want to share a room with some other sceaming lady in labor! ;-)Good Luck to you!

Everyone will have different experience. On any given day the hospitals can be the same, one could be better or totally different. each day has different staff on duty. You just have to pick and not worry about pros and cons...both have both. I just asked my dr which hospital they prefered and why. Then base your decision on that not on anyone else experience. I had a bad experience at Torrance with my girl but when I had my son he had to go to the NICU and that is why I would go back to Torrance when I have my 3rd even with my bad experience. My childs safely trumps my experience with the nurses (because that is what most people base the difference on) I have always heard that was the difference.

i had a pretty bad experience at Torrance. I had an emergency C-section after pushing for 3 hours, and was overmedicated so severely that i was in recovery for seven hours before being able to hold my baby for the first time. there was only one nurse (named Kim) who i loved, the others were really gruff and insensitive towards me as a first time mother. One nurse came in the day after i gave birth and literally snatched up my son for his circumsision without waiting for my husband to be present. I was given AMBIEN the night of my arrival since i couldn't sleep prior to being induced- i trusted the nurse who gave it to me, even though i was so confused as to the safety of it, and i'm certain that caused my c-section. i could go on, but my sister gave birth twice at LCM and absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend LCM. I am pregnant with my second and have no intention of considering torrance again. good luck
