So What Happened?

Wow I guess I am the only mom on the planet not cleaning bath toys. It just never really crossed my mind. Thanks for all the tips, I really never knew how to use bleach other than in the laundry. Thanks! Jarron will have clean toys this weekend.

Yes, go ahead and soak them in the tub (about half full) with about a half cup of bleach. Soak for 15-20 minutes, then take them out to air dry. You can use an old tootbrush to scrub, if needed.

I no longer allow bleach in my house. The fumes are bad for you and very bad for your child. Get yourself some non-toxic cleaners to wash them off or to soak them in. If you do choose bleach only mix it with water. For example, vinegar and bleach is very dangerous and creates a toxic gas.

I'm a Shaklee Distributor so I use Shaklee and am very confident that my products are safe, AND work extremely well. I'd be glad to make a recommendation if you are interested in the non-toxic route.

lol you aren't the only one not cleaning bath toys. My granddaughter is 3 and I never cleaned her toys. I do make sure there is no water left inside and also keep them in a basket so they can air dry. Guess I should clean them before she stays next time too.

I've always put them in a bucket of hot water and bleach, then used rubber gloves to squeeze water in and out about 4 million times, then rinse & soak more in plain water & squeeze water in & out about 4 million more times....just soaking them in bleach water isn't going to get the gunk on the inside.

We don't use bleach in our home...it is a pesticide.

I use Tough & Tender and be sure to squeeze the water in and out of the toy a few times. You should be sure they get emptied and dried after each use (air drying is fine).

If you notice mold starting to grow, get rid of them.

After every bath I shake them out and then lay them out flat to dry. Then occassionally when they need to be cleaned, I put them in the dishwasher to wash them.

Some toys I just run them through the dishwasher and others that get moldy inside (like rubber duckies) I just replace or throw away. Foam type toys I just wash in the bathtub with soapy water.

i boil the toys in water and bleach, suck the water into the insides (if they are the squeekie ones) squeeze it out and boil them for like 10 minutes, drain it. and boil them 2 more times in regular water

Dishwasher or washingmachine is where they go in our house. About once a month.

For any squeezy toys, squeeze out all the bath water and fill them with soapy/bleachy water from the washing machine before washing.

I usually run them through the dishwasher unless they are already growing mold or something. Only then do I use bleach (but I use bleach very sparingly in my house), or sometimes, I just get rid of the toy. Never mix bleach with any other cleaners.

Good old fashion soap..water and rinse in clorox should do the trick. If they are getting really yucky you might have to take the time to clean each individually and then once a week should do the trick!

I soak mine in the sink in hot bleach water. With gloves on, I suck up the bleach water into the insides (if they're the squirt kind) and let them sit for about five minutes. Then I squeeze it out, use a scrubber to clean them off and then repeat the process with hot soapy water and then rinse. If they are too gross I just throw them away. After all, bathtoys are cheap. :)

If they just have soap scum etc. on them throw them in the laundry with your next load of towels. The towels will do all the scrubbing for you. If you are concerned about bacteria, try the bucket of bleach water that others have suggested. Personally I would rinse really well after bleaching, but not everyone gets the heebie jeebies about eating a little bleach.

Good luck.

BLEACH as everyone else has said.... but make SURE you dont over use bleach....if you do it in the kitched sink i would use about a cap or two... and in the tub maybe a 1/4 of a cup.

I found a really great product for cleaning bath toys and really anything else you can think of - it's called BioGreen Clean. There's free shipping on all of their products and a 100% money back guarantee. Plus it's not only completely eco-friendly and safe for little ones, but it works! Okay before I start sounding like a raving 'info-mercial' I'll just leave you with their website link if you want to check it out for yourself.
