Hi All,

Does anyone if its safe to eat Weight Watchers products during pregnancy.
I am not on WW, I can't due to pregnancy, but I did use those products
before pregnancy to help constipation. The muffins and chocolate cakes will
help you go within an hr.

What can I do next?

I have the same problem and I eat prunes. They aren't super yummy, but they work REALLY good. They have orange essence flavor ones next to the raisins at the store and they taste much better than regular ones. Good luck!

HI S., don't know if WW food is safe, but I am pregnant and struggle with the same. My Dr. Recommended prunes, pears and a herbal tea called "Smooth Mooth"-none have side effects and also work like a charm. Good Luck. Maria

Hi S.,

there is nothing wrong with eating weight watchers food while you are pregnant. Since weight watchers focuses on healthy eating alternatives, its about a lifestyle change. Also, its not like you are eating the food to lose weight. It is not recommended to lose weight during pregnancy, unless you have the permission of your doctor. I ate weight watchers food during my pregnancy as I thought many of the foods were a healthier alternative to say twinkies or doughnuts. Congratulations on your new bundle of joy.

What works very well and is safe to take to keep you regular during pregnancy as well as when you're not pregnant is Benefiber. It is completely flavorless and disolves completely in liquid. My husband and I put 3 heaping teaspoons of it in our coffee every morning and you can't tell it's there. It seems kind of expensive but most stores carry a generic version. Be sure to get the one that is the knockoff of Benefiber though if you go generic. My husband used to work for the manufacturer of Benefiber which is why we started using it. Since he left we have tried the other brand that disolves completely and has no flavor too but it has a different active ingrediant and it made my stomach explode with gas and I hated it.
Also, I took a great prenatal vitamin that my doctor prescribed that had a stool softener in it. I think it was Prenate Elite, but call your doctor and ask for one w/ a stool softener.
Other than that eating foods high in fiber (whole grains, fruit and vegetables) as much as you can should help the problem. Start small, combining 1/2 regular pasta w/ 1/2 whole grain pasta, same w/ rice. A lot of these things taste good. The kids don't notice and you'll get used to them.

Excercise and lots of water with Fiber, worked for me. I have never used any of the WW muffins. Kolace is what they gave me in the hospital to help keep things moving after my C-sect. Check with your Dr. before you take anything.

I had to be hospitalized on bedrest for three weeks last summer during my pregnancy, and the dr.s there had me taking Mirialax each night. It is a powder you mix with juice. I sometimes drank it with prune juice, but the nurse's said apple juice works almost as well as prune juice does. (and tastes much better!) I drank it everynight, and eventually became regular... don't stop taking it though... it needs to be a routine because it is very gentle. (not just a quick fix) I agree w/ the people who recommended the Fiber One line... I could not get them when in the hospital, but I buy them sometimes now, and they are delicous. I have tried the bars and the yogurt is good too.

I would avoid the processed foods, some of which may have artificial sweeteners. A better option is to make sure you are drinking lots of water- a minimum of 8 8 oz glasses a day and get plenty of fiber. Prune juice can also be helpful.

You could also eat naturally high fiber foods and make sure you are drinking plenty of water. The high fiber foods will not only help get things moving along, but they are also chock full of great nutrients that your body needs to nourish the baby. Choose from fruits, vegetables, and whole grain breads and pastas. I don't know much about the WW products but I would guess that they are 'processed foods' and probably a combination of empty calories and filler fiber.

It's the high fiber content--try flaxseed ground and added to yogurt or cereal. Also, keep very hydrated...

I'll tell you what else will help and they taste really good. Fiber One granola bars. They are the chooey kind. The chocolate chip one is really good. It is really high in fiber, that is what helps. I had this similar problem with my pregnancies. Also try dried apricots, if you like them. Those things get it going in a hurry too! I love them!

I would check the ingredients for artificial sugars. If they are in there then it's not healthy for you to be eating those products. Why not change your prenatal vitamins? That's primarily the cause of constipation during pregnancy. You should also increase your daily fiber intake.

Good luck!

Hi S.,

Getting more fiber and water in your diet is key. Shaklee's Cinch protein shakes have no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, etc. and each serving contains 6 grams of dietary fiber. They are safe and good for pregnant women. With milk or soy milk you get 24 grams of protein, so it's also a good way for pregnant women to get more protein in their diet. They come in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and cafe latte. I would be happy to send you a sample and mote information if you have an interest in learning more about this delicious product.

Have a great day!

J.

I use prune juice. If I haven't gone in 2 days, I drink about 6 oz and I go by the next morning. It's best cold and you do get used to the taste. I'm sure prunes will work as well and I've also heard that people have some success w/apricots. Good Luck! I'm in your shoes.
