Hi there,

As I am already 7 months pregnant, I am thinking of storing my baby's cord blood and after doing some online research I've come across with Alpha Cord, a company that it's offering this service at a lower price than the more famous ViaCord, CBR etc, depending on the location of the storage. They've been in business for 10-12 years and they seem legitimate and were able to answer all my questions. They are FDA approved and I've found some good reviews about them online, so my question is: has any of you dealt or heard of them (Alpha Cord)? Any opinions on this are highly appreciated. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I haven't heard of Alpha Cord. We stored our son's cord blood at CBR, but I would think that they're all similar in how they operate. I think it's important to store the cord blood if you're able, so if there's a cheaper place, go for it! Just make sure they're a stable company.

I am sure you have already checked but make sure the hospital you are having the baby at is able to save the cord blood. Not all hospitals will do it. I was really considering saving cord blood until I found out that none of my local hospitals were capable of it.

You know that the cord blood saved can't be used to treat any genetic disorders, right? (b/c the genetic disorder is in the cord blood also)

Moreover when we researched this, we were told by several people in the industry that the only real use for the paid storage is for use by siblings, or with lesser stored types in a public bank (unique ancestry or mixed ancestries)

Never heard of them. Everyone I know, including my sons, used CBR. For me, I personally, like to go with the well known vs. unknown.
