My son gets this and I was able to get rid of it by rubbing Olive Oil hair treatment into his scalp. Its a green conditioner you can buy at CVS or Walgreens, I beleive it says its for hot conditioning, but I just rubbed into his scalp then used a stiff bristled brush on the spots and washed his hair and it was gone and hasn't come back.

Hi,
Mine has it too, or rather, gets it when I take too long of a break from using Nutragena (spelling?) T-Gel or I forget the other one. They both say dandruff, and suboric (agian, spelling) dermatitis. It works wonders with two or three shampoos. The darker one, Tgel, is stronger. We use that to start, then switch to the clear one. The dark one smells a little funny, but it works.
Good luck,
D. S.

I know of 2 products that are very helpful & completely safe for baby - Renew skin therapy lotion & melaleuca oil (tea tree oil). The Renew has the melaleuca oil in it which is why it works so well. Melaleuca oil is a healing penetrating oil. With the pure oil itself, I would dilute it with olive oil so that it's not as strong on the baby's head. These have both worked fantastic for many of my friends! Hope this helps!!

If it is cradle cap, one thing I do is to make sure I soak my son's head in the bath before I rinse him. I soap up his head and scrub with my fingers and leave the soap and suds on his head most of the time he is in the bath. I then scrub again at the end of the bath and rinse well. The soaking helps loosen the dead skin cells and makes combing it out much easier, because they have lifted from the scalp.

We used olive oil on our 5 year old daughter's cradle cap. We rubbed it into the areas where the cradel cap was located and left it on a couple of hours before bathing her and washing it out. We did this 2x a couple of days apart and the cradle cap went away completely. We have had no recurrence even in the dry winter weather.

Cradle cap is usually associated with babies. If he's 4, he probably has psoriasis or some other sclap issue. You should see your doctor or a dermatologist.

I don't know about a 4 year old but I used this on my babies... it's specifically for cradle cap called Cradle Cap Care and it's in the baby section of Target or Walmart. It's not super cheap (about $7 for a small bottle) but it worked for my babies in about 2 shampoos. Hope you find something.

Hi K.,

Use baby oil on scalp, let sit for a few. Comb it off scalp with out much pressure. One thing you need to make sure when you wash his hair from now on is to rinse the shampoo out, when you think you have it all out, rinse again. The build up for sure is soap. Go get his hair buzzed off, this will make the process easier for you. Good luck!

hello K.. i'm not sure how this will work on a 4yr old, but when my little one was a baby his pediatrician told me to use baby oil on his scalp and brush it all over. it loosened the dead skin and within a week he was clear. also, you can use selsun blue for shampooing his hair. i've also seen cradle cap shampoo for babies at walmart in the baby isle, tho i've never used it so i don't know how well it works. good luck.

Tea tree oil. Even cured my brother in law's "cradle cap" which he had been trying to cure for years with various shampoos, pills, doctors, etc.

Hi K.,

I'm going through that now with my 1 month old. Baby oil works best for her. I dab it on her scalp about an hour before I bathe her, that way her hair doesn't look so greasy. It's been helping alot.

Good luck!

Wow someone else out there has the same problem as me!! My son is also 4 years old and has cradlecap. Everytime I get it all off with in a few months it comes back. I've been using some stuff from Snip-its that they suggested and it worked but did come back. I heard that it can continue to come back until they are like 8 years old!! Trust me I have a hard enough time getting him to sit still now to get it off, how am I going to do it when he's 8?? Anyways, if you come across any other suggestions that work, let me know. By the way, don't buzz his hair off or take him to the doctor, they will probably laugh at you!! Good luck.

Take him to the doctor at 4yrs old it probably isn't cradle cap but if it is when my youngest had it bad we used baby oil rubbed into his scalp and a fine tooth comb to remove any that was loose.

Phisohex is what was used quite a while ago, but I'm not sure if it's still on the market. Ask at any drugstore if they can get it, because it DOES work the first time.

Hi K.,

If you take some Sea Breeze antiseptic on a cotton ball and use that to treat, it should go away quickly.

When I was in my teens, I had a terrible case of psoriasis (or whatever it is when it is on your scalp) and we had very little money to go to a doctor. My mother's hairdresser told her about the Sea Breeze and it worked beautifully. I have continued to use it over the years when my scalp got flaky, itchy, etc and I have never had a problem with dandruff, etc. and I am now 57,
