Hello!

My family moved to Dallas this summer from Florida. We love going to little festivals and the like on weekends with the kids. In FL there was a website with a list of all that was going on that weekend. I'm curious if there's anything like that here?

Thanks in advance!!

Go to www.dallasnews.com click on entertainment.

In the Friday Dallas Morning News paper addition, there's a section called the Guide that will list all events for the weekend.

Enjoy.

Hi M.,

Welcome to Texas. The weekend guide of the Dallas Morning News is a good resource. They have their own website. www.guidelive.com. On their website you can also sign-up for a weekly email that comes out on Wednesdays (I think) and gives a synopsis of everything that's happening around the area for the upcoming weekend. Another resouce for more regional festivals is www.traveltex.com. I get periodic emails from them with different happenings around the state. And one more the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau website maintains a pretty extensive calendar of area events. http://www.visitdallas.com/visitors/events/

And I just thought of one more source, have you seen Dallas Child magazine yet? They are free and are at various locations around town. They have a listing each month of family-friendly activities. They also have a website - www.dallaschild.com

Good luck,
L.

Welcome to Texas!

I like Dallas Child - they have a website www.dallaschild.com, but I haven't used it much - I usually get the print version at my library or some of the children's consignment stores. They have articles and ads, but also a calendar of Dallas Area family things to do, including area festivals, and events at zoos, museums, book stores, libraries, etc. The best resource for family events in the area I have found.

There's a "Fountain Festival" from 11-6 Saturday, Sept. 13th at the Richardson Civic Center (big field next to the library)...it's off of 75 and Arapaho. I haven't been myself, but my mother took my nephew last year (3 yrs. old) and said he had tons of fun, especially in the big dirt (sand) pile they have set up for kids. I believe this year they're having the "Critter Guy" at 2pm and 4 pm.

Generally, Grapevine and Addison throw great festivals. We live closer to Addison so been to all of them. Two we especially like are Oktoberfest which is this mo and in the Spring they have 'Taste of Addison' where they bring in known performers. The State Fair is a must do and has lots of fun things for kids (petting zoo is a must). If you're up for traveling and like German festivals, Wurstfest occurs in New Braufels in Oct/Nov.
Finally, Welcome!

D Magazine always lists what's going on (but you have to buy the magazine). Or the Dallas Morning News always has a Guide section in Friday's paper and they have a website - guidelive.com

Some fun events coming up - State Fair of Texas, Oktoberfest in Addison, the Arboreteum has great fall activities
Not sure where you live, but Preston/Royal shopping center usually does a fall carnival the weekend before Halloween.
Fall is the best time of year in Dallas. You'll love it (especially if you survived summer - the worst time!)

Hey M.,

I'm not sure what area of Dallas you live in but most of the surrounding cities like Grapevine, Lewisville, Rockwall etc have festivals. Next weekend on the 13th Desoto is having Viva Desoto which is a Hispanic festival. I'm from East Texas and I enjoy going to festivals also. Good Luck!

The area/city chamber of commerce websites are usually a good source of festival information. Just FYI: Grapefest is this weekend in Grapevine--it is a very large, very popular event. Oktoberfest is in Southlake the 1st weekend in October in Southlake Town Square. Also a very popular event. Hope this helps!
